Yesterday the New Castle County Democratic Party announced the time, date and details for the nominating convention. WDEL characterized the meeting as “closed door.” The meeting will be closed to the media. I’ll be attending but won’t be able to liveblog from the meeting.
Here are the details:
The Delaware Democratic Party has announced a special convention to hear from candidates interested in running for the soon-to-be vacant County Council President seat, and to select a candidate for nomination. This convention will be held on Monday, November 22nd at 7pm in the William Penn High School Auditorium, located at 713 E. Basin Road in New Castle. Registration will be open from 6pm to 7pm, and attendees should bring identification.
Only Democratic Committee members as of November 2nd, 2010 will be eligible to vote to select a candidate, though any registered Democrat from New Castle County and the City of Wilmington is welcome to attend the meeting. The meeting will be closed to the press.
Any Democrat wishing to be considered must present him or herself at the check in table by 6:30pm. All candidates will be able to address the crowd for five minutes each, and then will take questions from the audience for an additional 30 minutes.
With the election of County Executive Chris Coons to U.S. Senate, current County Council President Paul Clark will ascend to the County Executive’s office. The date for the special election has not yet been announced.
Meanwhile, in a completely secret process, former State Rep. Tom Kovach told people at last night’s DelTweet event that he was the Republican nominee for New Castle County Council President.
