Statement From Tim Sheldon

We have requested an interview with Tim Sheldon but he is out of town this week. We have offered to do a phone interview but so far, Mr. Sheldon has not found the time yet. He did give permission to post his statements that he has sent to Democratic committee members and to the Progressive Democrats.

I have a long record of service to our party of a committee member, committee chair and now as an elected official. Over the years, I have supported Democratic candidates throughout our county and up & down our state. As an elected official, I have a proven track record of fiscal responsibility, fighting irresponsible growth and strong constituent service. As a candidate, I have shown that I understand and am willing to devote the time and energy it takes to win a competitive race.

We have many challenges ahead of us in the near future and I hope you will join me on our campaign. I would be honored to have your support for President of New Castle County Council. If I am fortunate enough to earn your support, I pledge that together we will continue to achieve success on the issues that matter most to our party and the people of New Castle County.

Here is Councilman Sheldon’s statement to PDD:

I would like to thank the Progressive Democrats for Delaware for the opportunity to present my background and ideas for the direction of our county. In addition, I also thank you for your hard work to promote core Democratic issues, values and candidates/elected officials who support these objectives.

Since I became an elected official in 2004, I have been determined to represent all citizens of New Castle County. I believe that my record as a council-person reflects this desire. A few items which immediately come to mind are:

    • the inclusion of equal opportunity language in one of my notable pieces of legislation, the Responsible Contractors Ordinance
    • my support of domestic partnership benefits
    • my work as a business representative and an activist for working people to ensure a living wage for all American workers
    • my sponsorship of ordinances which support everyone from senior citizens, to small businesses, to your average citizen
    • my record of taking my constituent’s opinions and concerns to heart and my work each & every day to represent them
  • As a Board member of the Delaware Solid Waste Authority, I am a major proponent of recycling. I was instrumental in bringing single stream recycling to the State of Delaware. After my suggestion, it was implemented statewide. This saves people time and energy with minimal impact to the DSWA.

Additionally, I am a firm advocate of renewable energy. I have suggested and continue to promote saving the methane gas and selling it to the treatment plant in Wilmington. I have also suggested that the City of Wilmington turn the sludge from our sewer system into a fertilizer bi-product with zero emissions to be used as an alternative energy. There are many innovative and modern ideas when it comes to renewable energy and I will continue to be the pioneer for implementation of such in New Castle County.

    Tim Sheldon
