The Special Election Is January 13, They’re Sure This Time
I don’t know how many of you were following the election news yesterday. The department of elections announced that the special election to fill the empty New Castle County Council President seat will be on Tuesday, January 11, um sorry, Thursday January 13.
New Castle County’s special election for council president will be on Thursday, Jan. 13, according to county elections director Anthony Albence.
Albence first said Monday morning that the special election would be held on Tuesday, Jan. 11. But officials decided to change the date to Thursday because of scheduling conflicts cited by election participants, Albence said early Monday evening.
But after that date was reported here at Dialogue Delaware, the Department of Elections received several calls from unnamed elected officials complaining about the date. They cited two scheduling conflicts: Jan. 11 is the first day of the 146th General Assembly’s 2010 legislative session and the night New Castle County row officers are sworn into office, Albence said.
The county elections department will post the official notice on Tuesday, Albence said.
Nothing screams high turnout election more than voting on Thursday in January. I can understand why they needed to change the election date though – state legislators and county council members are probably the few voters they could count on to show up.
It does not matter which day they have it, I drove past GOP HQ on Sunday when Kovach had a lit drop scheduled. Only 8 cars in the parking lot.
The GOP troops are spent and disgusted, too bad for the few who will work hard for a lost cause. Sheldon by 25%.
The GOP is about to lose three special elections, Kovach, then the person to replace Sheldon ( Dunn) and in Newark Schooley will be relocating and that one will be a loss as Ezra from citry council will take that one.
So , three losses in three months. Good bye to Ross, Rakestraw, Wimer, Forsten and Fleming who will have lost two specials in two months.
The GOP is leaderless. Think about it. Brandywine has one state Rep when ten years ago they had four. Newark has Joe Miro as the only elected official. Mill Creek the best GOP area in the state is DOA, Wilmington has 0 state reps and ) state senators. Colonial has no chairman and has only Dori Connor as a state senator when they used to have the Speaker and three state reps.
Even better by the convention the coups will be set as we will have Kent and Sussex allied with a conservative NCC person to be chair. The first shall be last and the last shall be first.
Those who have licked around will be on top and best of all no more Mike Castle beach balls.
I was wondering if everyone knew that thier are three candidates running for this election?
I guess either a you dont care or you think its not important? or maybe somthing else all together?
I heard rumors of Terry Schooley leaving early in 2009. Are you saying that she still has plans to jump ship after running and winning re-election for office?
Yup. Wouldn’t it be considerate though, if she did so to keep the special expenses all the same day?
