Shorter Tom Carper, “Yes. I still Suck!”

Filed in National by on December 5, 2010

Antsy being out of the spotlight for very long, every now and then Senator Tom Carper feels the need to yell down from his ivory tower and let everyone know that he still sucks. His latest reminder is in the form of signing onto a letter letting everyone know that he backs the Republican plan to give millionaires more tax cuts while demonstrating fiscally prudence by defunding Social Security.

From Daily kos:

Instead of speaking with one extremely loud, united voice on the insanity of giving these tax breaks to millionaires on the backs of America’s middle class and senior citizens, we get this.

A group of 14 Democrats pressed for a congressional action to address the deficit despite a failure by President Obama’s fiscal commission to achieve enough votes to send its austerity plan to Congress for a vote….

The 14 senators hailed the commission’s recommendations on Social Security, healthcare, and tax reforms — three cornerstones of the plan on which support for a plan could hinge….

The signatories were Sens. Mark Warner (D-Va.), Evan Bayh (D-Ind.), Mark Begich (D-Alaska), Michael Bennet (D-Colo,), Tom Carper (D-Del.), Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Kay Hagan (D-N.C.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Mary Landrieu (D-La.), Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Jon Tester (D-Mont.) and Mark Udall (D-Colo.).

You lazy ass seniors are on notice. Tom Carper is coming for you. You millionaires can relax.

My guess is he/they won’t go after current seniors – this group needs their votes. My bet is that they’ll target those under 50 and hope that those current seniors are selfish enough to secure their benefits while depriving younger people.

What’s scary is that this strategy would probably work.

  2. Funny how when Tom Carper walked up to the podium in a church on the eastside of Wilmington on Friday to speak some words of comfort for the friends and family of Hazel Plant, he explained what a good Democrat stands for but he never mentioned bargaining away 700 billion in tax cuts for America’s uber rich on the backs of the middle class and America’s children.

Both Coons and Carney have supported extending tax cuts for the top 2 percent but I guess Coons isn’t stupid enough to actually sign a letter like this.

  3. “Fiscal hawks” – everyone must sacrifice
Millionaires – Clinton tax rate? Waaaaaaahhhhhhh!
“Fiscal hawks” – We didn’t mean you!

  4. The person I’m really mad at right now is Dick Durbin. He signed onto that Social Security cutting fiscal commission report. He’s supposedly a progressive.

  5. alyn pearis says:

So much for concern about lowering the deficit.

  6. Truth Teller says:

When you have a choice between a Dem who acts like a Repuk and a Repuk the repuk always wins look at the beating the Blue dogs took 9in the election they were dumb enough to think they could please folks who would never vote for them. Just ask EX Senator Lincoln of AK. Do you really think us Dem’s can tell the difference between her and her replacement?

    Carper = Castle
    DelawareLiberal = Delaware Politics
Jason Partisan Dumbass = David Partisan Dumbass
    Christine O’Donnell = ????
    Chris Coons = ???? (Copeland?)

It is like looking into a fun house mirror to consider the case of our fucked up Senator. Of course the parallels break down pretty quickly because “the left” does not have control of the mass media or a faction of zombified, nihilistic bomb throwers.

But still, there are enough similarities there to comfort shallow thinkers like Ron Williams and Tom “the Don” Carper.

What’s scary is that this strategy would probably work.

What’s scarier is that no strategy is really needed anymore to cut taxes for the rich and take away benefits from the rest of us. That is the default path rolling downhill fast, and the effort required to reverse it is too great.

When you have a choice between a Dem who acts like a Repuk and a Repuk the repuk always wins

If Repubs put up a grown-up moderate Republican (if they had one), he would beat Carper for exactly that reason.

I guess we have at least a few zombified, nihilistic bomb throwers. Delacrat and anonone come to mind.

In the same way that Republicans continuously usurp our satire of them, Obama continues to catch up with delacrat and anonone.

Carper won’t run in 2012. His Parkinson’s is getting the best of him and he’ll retire (nice state and Federal annuities). Beau will run in 2012.

  15. anon says:

His Parkinson’s is getting the best of him

    Paula Parkinson?

    Seriously, I hadn’t heard he had Parkinson’s.

  16. Geezer says:

“John Kowalko vs. Tom Carper in 2012”

While I applaud your enthusiasm, I would respectfully forward the notion that John Kowalko can do a lot more good in the Delaware General Assembly than in the U.S. Senate. That’s a better spot for Beau, because it will (with luck) put the AG’s office in the hands of a professional lawyer.

  17. Capt.Willard says:

“That’s a better spot for Beau, because it will (with luck) put the AG’s office in the hands of a professional lawyer.”-Jeez Geez, what does that say about the caliber of men we elect to senate?
This seat doesn’t belong to this miserable happenstance of lucky biology.
I’d like to see a bright, progressive Democratic WOMAN vie for this if Carper does us ALL a big favor and returns to his TRUE Confederate ROOTS.

  18. cassandra_m says:

Tom Carper did not vote (or so it looks like from a quick search) for the 2001 tax cuts or the 2003 round.

But you can see Carper following the lead of our legislators who are trying to be on all sides of the current economic distress — he wants to be for tax cuts and for deficit reduction when the two of these things are always and everywhere in competition with one another. What I’d like to hear from Carper is how he can reconcile these two ideas — letting the Bush tax cuts expire actually get you genuine deficit reduction. Deficit reduction that is in striking range of President Obama’s targets.

  19. Geezer says:

“I’d like to see a bright, progressive Democratic WOMAN vie for this”

And I’d like to see a leprechaun riding a baby unicorn.

The chances that Democrats, with four possible candidates who have already won statewide races (Denn, Carney, Biden, Flowers), would instead pick someone who has never even run one are slimmer than slim and none.

  20. anon says:

and who would be “progressive WOMAN” geez..Karen Peterson so she can screw us again when medicare for all comes up again…geez! John Kowalko~ the perfect candidate for 2012. Someone who actually has proven he is a stand up for the people guy.

Well, now that Castle is gone, that is true.

You prefer DON’T GET SICK, instead of Medicare-For-All ?

Talking about Carper facing a primary is like talking about…uh…like…. like talking about something that is never going to happen.

Sounds like something Tom Ross said

I remember when Castle was never going to run for the Senate (and Jason was going to walk naked down Main Street if he did). Then I remember when it was impossible for O’Donnell to beat Castle.

I remember when Castle was never ever going to run for the Senate (and Jason was going to walk down Main Street n*ked if he did). I also remember that it was impossible for O’Donnell to beat Castle in a primary.

  28. jason330 says:

Someone please tell ahole1 that I won that bet because Castle never ran for the US Senate.

  29. Jason, if the mother fucker wants to see your dick so badly then GLORIFY! I don’t know what you’d get in return but it’ll be a piddle to be sure

  30. jason330 says:

Oh, it is no big deal. I’m just having fun with another walking, talking skeleton. The Bankers, the Carpers, the Obamas and the even Castles have won. They’ve nuked the middle class to the point that there is no fight left. We are all radioactive Nagasaki “survivors” stumbling around in the rubble, not fully aware of the fact that we are already dead.

  31. anonone says:

No, Cylcone ranger, jason is so ashamed of himself that he is welshing on his pledge. He is trying to convince people that the Mike Castle for Senate campaign was some kind of mass hallucination, like this website:

    Welsher.

  32. anonone says:

    Welsher.

(With apologies to the Welsh people for using a term derived from an ethnic slur.)

  33. Sword fight aside, Castle didn’t even contest the primary nor support the crazy bitch that ran for senate. Why don’t you fellas turn to important issues like upskirt and in state shots of KWS?

  34. jason330 says:

Fuck the Welsh. I never met a Welsh person that I liked. They are even worse then the Dutch.

  35. Von Cracker says:

I think the plan is to worry the old shits to death, thus relieving the soon-to-be-coming in 30 years SS solvency issue.

    AND Welsh rarebit too!!!!

  37. anon says:

Delecrat: Peterson was the worst when it came to health care. She supported the corporations not single payer. Dont you know that? In fact, she did a real number on single payer at Common Cause who twice had supported it. She went behind every back who supported single payer and demonized the shit out of em. In other words, she “bought into what Wendell Potter stated was the corporate PR. Demonize single payer, demonize Michael Moore and Sicko”. By the way, Carney was even worse. He continuously lied about it and refused to hold a hearing so the merits of it could be heard.

  38. kavips says:

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), the chairwoman of the House Tea Party Caucus, said Republicans would balk at voting to extend all the tax cuts for two years if it’s tied to a long-term extension of jobless benefits.

  39. Jason330 says:

Figures. Voting for ANYTHING hurts their tbag street cred.
