Delaware Park Poker Tournament Review

Well I sucked it up and played my first Delaware Park poker tournament and netted $300.00 after grinding out the 5 1/2 hour donkathon.

Overall, the level of play was pretty bad. I started out by doubling up with a full house when someone bluffed all in with nothing on the second hand. And while I thought the recklessness would settle down as the crazy and drunk people got thinned out, there always seemed to be someone bluffing off 50 big blinds.

So, my strategy of folding my way into the money worked pretty well. I caught a couple of playable hands and stole a couple of blinds along the way. Meanwhile, even players that I thought were fairly solid would suddenly blow up and turn over ace high before putting on their coats and hitting the road.

The dealers were all very professional and kept the action going. There were very few disputes or questions that they could not deal with. There was one OVERLY drunk guy that they were overly courteous to, but that drunk guy doubled me up when I got AQ…so…

If I had played a little tighter after the money bubble broke I think I could have moved up a bit. As it happened I caught a pair of twos and shoved. The chip leader had QJ, so it was a pretty decent call on his part.

All things considered, I’d play there again.
