McCainology: From Hero to Zero
Witnessing the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” through legislation rather than through a temporary executive order was a fantastic moment in any American’s life. However this was tempered with watching the car crash known as Senator John McCain.
Balloon Juice sums up what has been happening with McCain since 2004 and, more importantly, the reaction of the DC press corps that so loved this man, the maverick:
It is good to see that more and more folks recognize John McCain for the small-minded weasel that he is and it is fun to see that members of McCain’s former base (the DC press) are starting to resolve their dissonance by embracing the cold fact that John McCain is simply a prick who acts of out of peevishness and not out of integrity.

More on McCain from Joe Klein:
Petulance and lack of grace. I couldn’t have said it better.
Had McCain’s daddy and Grand dad not been Admirals in the Navy he would have been court marshaled for his actions in the Hanoi Hilton for giving aid to the enemy. This guy just turned out to be a bitter old man who can’t remember what his position was a month ago
When Johnny comes marching home again,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
We’ll give him a hearty welcome then
Hurrah! Hurrah!
The men will cheer and the boys will shout
The ladies they will all turn out
And we’ll all feel gay,
When Johnny comes marching home.
“Singing” Johnny McCain- a total TOOL!!
I find it interesting that McCain is described as having fallen or lost his integrity. I think McCain is as he’s always been, peevish and looking out for #1. how much of his “maverick” era came from a peevish desire to get back at George W. Bush?
exactly UI. the more and more i look at him, the more it seems his stands are based not on his own beliefs, but to stick it to the guy who beat him.
He deserved to be mad at Bush after the Prez primaries (those Rove digs about his adopted daughter being some kind of illicit bi-racial/therefore scandalous love child were low). That anger fueled his bipartisanship “maverick” period, because it screwed with the Bush administration. Now he’s pissed at Obama because he lost (yeah i’d be mad for a while too, but I don’t know if he’s allowed to be as mad this time)and he’s doing whatever he can to screw with the Obama administration. That coupled with the JD Hayward challenge made him swing from maverick to super conservative.
You know who I sorta feel bad for? Megan. I mean, she’s using her family connections for all they’re worth but now whenever she gets a pundit gig the first question is essentially “Hey Meg, why’s your dad such an asshole?”
McCain’s tombstone will read: “I did it their way.”
Here, here John McCain. He is a better American than all of you critics put together. You are not worthy to shine his boots, but that won’t stop your vitriol.
All of McCain’s critics put together would be huge. We’d be a giant super-American with one foot in Europe and one covering the entire state of Kansas. We could use the moon as a ping pong ball. We could take the ring off saturn and fling it, like a frisbee, out to Alpha Centauri.
McCain’s boots would be far, far, far too puny for us to shine.
No, but we’re worthy to pay for replacements for the five jets he crashed.
Dry your eyes my little friend
Let me take you by the hand
Freddie get ready Rock steady
When Johnny strikes up the band
They’ll be rocking in the projects
Walking down along the strand
Freddie get ready Rock steady
When Johnny strikes up the band

When Johnny strikes up the …
When Johnny strikes up the …
When Johnny strikes up the band-Warren Zevon
I think he dedicated this to closeted “Singing” Johnny McCain.
I doth think he protest too much.
