One of the best things about being from the mighty Mid-Atlantic is growing up knowing what a pizza and an italian subs are supposed to taste like.

One of the other best things is being on the Amtrak Northeast Corridor.

At over a billion dollars a year (tax payer subsidized loss), Amtrak had better be one of the best things….lol

I’ve lived in the midwest, the south, the northeast, and now the mid atlantic, and in all places pizza has tasted pretty much the same.

I’ve never had a decent pizza outside of DE, NJ, PA, or NY. As for Amtrak, I wonder when the interstate highway system is going to break even? Hmmmm? I’m guessing never.

When you live in Delaware a fast escape route is essential.

    @fightingbluehen:
Public transportation is a public good and is not meant to/nor ever will operate at a profit. It can’t be priced affordably and make a profit. Notice how airlines can’t cover their margins anymore without government supports (or they just go into bankruptcy). The government pays for some of the costs of the service Amtrak provides because it’s a service people value and need but can’t self-sustain. That’s the function of government. Incidentally, Amtrak’s long-distance trains are usually the most profitable parts of the system per trip, and they serve many remote areas that don’t have adequate bus and air service. Ending Amtrak funding would be devastating to those people and regions.

Another thing that Delawareans should remember is just how many jobs Amtrak provides in Wilmington and Bear at the shops.

Jason, depends on your idea of a good pizza. Me, I’ve never had a real good Pan pizza outside of Chicago. I do remember though coming back from the west coast on leave from the Navy and getting a cheese steak as soon as I got of the plane. AND a tastycake 🙂

    Love me some scrapple!

  9. Auntie Dem says:

Can’t beat the Mid-Atlantic for homemade goodness food. You are so right Jason.

And when the crabs are running in the Summer and the Rock in the Winter, available fresh for the palate, this area backs up to none.

I still haven’t worked up the courage for sushi.
Is there a local spot with a STERLING reputation for serving this? After a couple hits and a few shots I MIGHT take the plunge.

  12. nemski says:

Capt. Willard, if you are up north, try Jasmine on Rt. 202.

  13. pandora says:

Mikimoto’s (next to the Washington Street Ale House) has excellent sushi as well.

  14. Capt.Willard says:

Thanks for the tips nemski and pandora.
I have a good friend who loves sushi, so I may tippy-toe in and let him finish what I may be unable to.
I am loathe to waste food in these desperate times.
I’ll fill you both in on the outcome privately if and when.

    Philly cheesesteaks.

  16. JustMe says:

Both Grotto’s and Season’s are abominations and should not be calling what they sell “pizza”. It’s an affront to people who make actual pizza. Newcomer to People Plaza called Piazza de Caruso is actually quite good. (Go figure they moved here from Queens)

As for sandwiches; Who else besides Capriotti’s makes a good one? I’ve yet to find them.

  17. Von Cracker says:

    Casapula’s does good sandwiches.

Pizza? I agree with the above comment – Grotto’s and Seasons are shite. Chao and Cafe Verde in Trolley are very good. Margarita’s on Main St in Newark too.

    Nino’s is decent.

  18. Mongo says:

Casapula’s is a major advertiser on wgmd. Just throwing that out there.

  19. fightingbluehen says:

Margarita’s used to be good the last time I had it twenty years ago. It had that New York pizza taste.
