Let me respectfully point out that there are many similarities, (with Wisconsin),in budget proposals being discussed here in Delaware. Just sayin’.

Republicans set the bar so low that Democrats can shuffle over it.

As the revolutionary spirit started Tunisia and spread, perhaps Wisconsin will start something. The willingness of the states to comfort the comfortable and afflict the afflicted was in need of some push back.

Working with public employee unions to balance a state budget takes just that — work. Republicans hate to work. It would just be so much easier to dictate that the masses are here to support the wealthy and it’s just too freakin bad they were born in the working class. Just pull yourself up by your bootstraps and get to work keeping the rich in the style to which they are accustomed. Don’t cha love the bootstrap talking point?

As a recent Badger State transplant to Delaware, I saw this conflict brewing for some time. The Tea Party is especially strong in the Rust Belt where one-time, good paying union jobs have been replaced by a Wal-Mart economy, leaving many oldsters angry and hostile not at Wall Street but at those with a decent education to get a decent public job with good benefits. Fortunately, even those former blue collar types recognize that the labor movement provided them with a good life while working and that the stripping away of those rights goes far beyond the demand to have public employees pay more for pension and health care benefits. THIS FIGHT IS NOT ABOUT THE STATE BUDGET; IT IS ABOUT UNION BUSTING. All Americans, including us here in the First State, have to pay attention. It’s time for the middle class to rise again!

As JK alludes to, Republican budget proposals in Delaware tend to lead with elimination of prevailing wage rules, and attacks on teachers and other public employees. Not because they care about the budget – but because they believe they would be defunding their political opponents (unions). It is an article of faith in the Delaware GOP that Democrats are dominant because of union support.

    Ob1,

That sorta explains why the teabagz aren’t going nuts over the threat to use the National Guard. And yet, why arent the teabagz going nuts over the Gov’s threat to call out the national guard.
