Weekend Reads
Here are a few features that you may have missed this week:
- Arrests Made Over Icelandic Bank Collapse
- While back at Ground Zero of the bank fraud — Lehman Probe Stalls; Chance of No Charges Make sure you scroll down to the chart at the bottom, for a nice summary of the inaction against the perpetrators.
- Who’s Afraid of Elizabeth Warren — very nice overview of the battle to confirm her AND the ongoing battle to weaken Dodd-Frank by Simon Johnson. Time to get busy asking our Congressional delegation to support Ms. Warren — although I expect that our Senators’ support to delay the crackdown on retailer swipe fees isn’t exactly a good sign.
- The NYT Tries the Paywall Again. So what do you think? Will you pay $15/month to read the NYT on line?
- Trudy Lieberman takes on NPR’s so-called Liberal Bias by looking at how they recently reported on Social Security. I love this piece — you can do this over and over on NPR political news programming and get the same result.
- This deserves more than just a quick hit here, but if you read one thing this week, make it this: Who’s Really Behind Recent Republican Legislation in Wisconsin and Elsewhere? (Hint: It Didn’t Start Here) It is a very detailed look at one more bit of the Wingnut Welfare cabal, this time at a group called ALEC whose mission is to develop off-the-shelf ideologically driven legislation for local wingnuts to pass of as their own. (h/t to a tipster who shall remain nameless)

Did you read anything this week you’d like to share?
It is a glorious day outside, and I’m on my way into the office for a bunch of hours. 🙁
One of the PDD members brought ALEC to our attention a couple of years ago. Her hair was on fire, and rightly so.
Some days it does feel like we’re shoveling s#%t against the tide.
The teabaggers may be a bunch of self-selecting ignoramuses but the people pulling their strings are so very, very smart and rich.
