A Katz and Mouse Game

Filed in National by on April 25, 2011

People who want to use the Del Senate to set up lifetime six figure sinecures don’t like the idea of term limits. Shocking right? I’d almost have to be on Katz’ side on this one if not for the loathsome people who would be empowered by term limits.

Term limits only address part of the problem. Campaign finance reform answers the rest of the problem.

    jason,
what type of loathsome people will be empowered by term limits… and how?

  3. Jason330 says:

I’m not sure if they pose a threat on the state level, lobbyists and career staffers (who never answer to the voters) would have all the power.

Also, as much as I don’t like McDowell – he has a point. We have term limits now. They are called elections.

  4. Dana Garrett says:

I like term limits because it opens up a democratic process to more citizens. But, then, I have a bias in this regard. I generally like more democracy, not less.

I like the “we have term limits now” philosophy. We do. But for some reason its tough to get out the vote. Any organization that can present as little as 100 votes to an elected official has their rapt attention.

  6. anon says:

Oh Harris. During your next election you better start living at your Wilmington address. Instead of showing up once a week to get your mail, guess you might have to spend a few nights there. People are more than suspicious…they are watching your house. Your track record is terrible right now. Elections arent term limits when you use all your cronies and make deals to get reelected.

I’m not a fan of term limits, since that seems to be an end run around voters. But I do think that you can change the incumbent racket here in DE by getting public financing of campaigns (maybe) or making some changes in the business hours/days of the legislature so that more people who work have an opportunity to serve. That might mean condensing the legislative season or changing the meeting hours — ideas that someone who already has a job might be able to use to convince a current employer that they can be on the legislature AND get their day job done.

Figure out a way to open the door to more competition, rather than restricting competition for incumbents.

And there’s anon spreading lies again. Unlike anon I live in Harris’ neighborhood and drive past his house every morning when I take my daughter to school. I see him, and his family, often.

And while I disagree with him on issues, I detest lying. But this anon is very good at lying. Sorta like the time she claimed that her friend, a hospice nurse, was pulled over for using their cell phone while driving to a hospice emergency and then disappeared when commenters proved her wrong.

  9. anon says:

Its not a lie…he is being watched…so we will see when he runs again.

  10. anon says:

Hey Pandora: I didnt dissappear. The hospice nurse came to my house immediately after the incident. So stick it. You dont know everything ya just think you do.

  11. cassandra_m says:

You libs have a habit of attacking people just because you can.

THIS is choice. Since you never post unless you are attacking somebody with no basis for doing so. Just because your dander is up and because you can and because you never have to be accountable for your ravings.

  12. anon says:

and, Pandora…you dont know where the hell I live. You libs have a habit of attacking people just because you can. some of you remind me of teabaggers!

  13. Joanne Christian says:

Term limits is fine w/ me–I could go w/ an interruptus version too. Sit a round or two out, then if you want back in, be permitted to run again.

  14. anon says:

Cassandra: I see you and your lib friends dont mind attacking anyone even when you dont have the facts. I have posted many times on here with just information. I see you got each other backs even when your wrong. I dont have my dander up, I just happen to know some things YOU dont. Maybe Pandora can see Harris house from her house…or not.

  15. Another Mike says:

Pandora, next time you see Harris, ask him why he doesn’t reply to his constituents. I’ve been told by his office that he doesn’t use email, that if I want to reach him to send a letter via US mail. The man has never once returned one of my phone calls. I received a letter from him not answering a question I had asked by snail mail.

    He stinks.

  16. heragain says:

Term limits won’t solve the problem. It took me 40 years to find a decent dentist, and if you tried to get me to change car repair guys I’d hurt you. You want me to find talented people for a multitude of elected offices, and just when I get one sorta trained have to start over?

Here’s my concept of term limits. When they stop showing up at the firehalls and local fairs, turf them out.
