WTF Dennis Kucinich?

With his Ohio seat in jeopardy due to redistricting, Democratic Congressman Dennis Kucinich is fanning rumors of a possible 2012 run in Washington state.

Kucinich, a two-time presidential candidate, has made a series of public appearances here recently, roaming 2,000 miles from the West Cleveland district he’s represented since 1997.

On Sunday, Kucinich led a May Day march in Seattle for immigrants’ rights. Over the weekend, he spoke to audiences in Tacoma and Bainbridge Island. And in February, he addressed a big union rally in Olympia.

As unlikely as it seems, speculation among Democrats has Kucinich eyeing a couple of possible 2012 openings here. He could try for the state’s yet-to-be drawn new 10th Congressional District or seek Democratic U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee’s 1st District seat if Inslee, as expected, runs for governor.

Asked about the rumors, Kucinich’s office released a statement confirming he is exploring a move.

If you were in Kucinich’s current district, how would you feel about this? Are constituents disposable? Is Congress such a great job that he can’t give it up?

Meanwhile, there are budgets being made.

Predictably, using the tried and true method from the HCR effort, Kent Conrad drafted a budget that started with a Democratic compromise and than compromised with the compromise. Only this time the outcome is a little different, for now anyway:

WASHINGTON — Senate Democrats are furious at their lead budget negotiator for crafting a blueprint that they think moves the party too far to the right, a senior Democratic aide said.

Sen. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) has been bargaining for months in secret with Republicans in the so-called Gang of Six to craft a budget that might win bipartisan acceptance. On Tuesday, Conrad abruptly dropped the veil and rolled out his own offering for party colleagues — to brutal reviews.

I think Obama is correct not to release the photos of the dead OBL. They could inflame radical jihadists and they would do nothing to assuage the paranoid ruminations of the conspiracy freaks.

I don’t feel strongly one way or the other about the release of these photos — but I don’t think that they should be allowed to become a fetish object, which is where i think all of this hoopla is going.
