Weiner Pulling Out
According to various news sources, Anthony Weiner will resign today.
This has become a distraction for the Democrats. He needs to get his act together and then he can make a comeback.

If the New York Post uses that headline tomorrow, we will sue them for copyright infringement.
he’s totally a creep, but…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTlhFr1KYSU
Agreed, V. He needs to get whatever “help” he needs, and then, ask his constituents for another chance. But the constant focusing on him is distracting from what we need done and taking the fight to the teapublican party.
the constant focusing on him is distracting from what we need done
Um, the “constant focusing on him” at this point is all being done by Democrats.
Breitbart has fired all his cannons, and Repubs aren’t especially getting traction by pointing and laughing. All the Weiner news you have seen in the press for the last week or more has been generated by Democratic leadership.
I think it has a lot more to do with the Dem center-right establishment opportunistically getting rid of a progressive thorn in their side.
This morning I even heard the idea floated that Dems might redistrict Weiner out of his safe Dem district. That might be what forced the resignation.
If there is one thing Democrats can agree on and throw the power of their leadership behind, it is the overwhelming need to surrender. I wish Pelosi had fought this hard against the tax cuts for the rich.
Vitter is still there! Why arent we trashing him and demanding his resignation? Glad to see Weinergate coming to a close, however he should have resigned immediately. There is no cure for narcissism.
I bet you enjoy making weiner jokes don’t you….
And I wish Democrats had been spending this much obsessive time on a real jobs plan for the millions of unemployed Americans.
But hey — I guess that Democrats can congratulate themselves on this utterly useless *victory* as well as on their priorities.
And in the mean time — the corruption and unethical behavior personified by the Clarence Thomases and the David Vitters get to be *normal* behavior. Normal for Republicans, that is.
This is how the game is played. He will placate the idiots who need to see him “repent” then come back stronger than ever. Also, we can make the case as democrats, that while republicans spend their time at Lesbian Bondage clubs planning how to stop gay marriage and supporting their hooker fucking colleagues, Democrats run out of town anyone in our ranks who even sexts. Its a great campaign narrative that dems wont use. There is more to gain politically from him “stepping down to heal”
its all a game, the question is; how willing are you to play it the way the Repubs play it?
🙄
now we just need to “purge” Rangle and Maxine Waters.
Imagine the Ad. It starts off looking like a R attack ad with al these democrats and the things they’ve done.. then it shows them being shown the door by Dem leadership..
cut to Vitter talking about how much he loves hookers….. then his standing ovation at a republican diner…. then the fact he is still in office.
THAT is the purpose of pushing him out. It is Rovian tactics used to get republicans and it can work.
Have mercy.
And that ad doesn’t do or say a thing about *employment* for those who need it.
As I said — Congratulations on your priorities.
My priorities are to get democrats elected so we can get the real stuff done.
Voters dont care about employment for those who need it. They care about reality TV and to reach the voters you want, you have to speak to them on their level. If you can use a scandal to your advantage, why not do it. you KNOW the Rs will and you KNOW it will work for them. No one gets a prize at the end of playing fair. You only either win or lose.
Talk about job creation and help for the middle class till the cows come home. you opponent just needs to mention how much they love God, how much oyu hate capitalism and have a catchy slogan and you lose.
That is just reality.
“its all a game, the question is; how willing are you to play it the way the Repubs play it?”
The fight isn’t between Democrats and Republicans. It’s between people who take governance seriously and those who think “it’s all a game.”
If it’s all a game, then it’s just a matter of who can lie to the public more convincingly. Again I say, Fuck You.
Voters dont care about employment for those who need it.
This is *really* wrong. There are few (if any) polls recently that don’t prioritize employment over deficit reduction and everything else that the pols are working on instead of getting people back to work. besides, plenty of voters are nervous about their own employment, especially if the economy stays sluggish.
Millions of Americans out of work who want to work is simply not a game. And elevating the Weiner bullshit over real stuff we need to have happen is *exactly* the game that Democrats (including you, socialistic ben) did. The shame of it is that you can’t rouse Democrats to push their government on much and apparently it is OK that Dems used a pretty rare thing to run Anthony Weiner out of town.
So hey, you guys ought to be riding pretty high then, right? You got what *you* wanted (the game must be played!) while people out of work are ignored not just by their government but by you too.
If you tweet your meat, you lose your seat. goodbye Weiner.
a public that is more involved in amerian idol isnt really interested in being told the truth. People vote for whoever tells them what they want to hear. If getting your goals accomplished is something that is important to you than you should do whatever you legally can to get then accomplished. If you can gain political points for a greater end by throwing someone off the island who really did do something bad, than you should do it.
And fuck you too man. i dont agree with or like this philosophy, but its the way it is. Either try in vain to change the way the system works, or use the system itself to defeat it. Dont shoot the messenger.
Cassandra, most voters arent you. They arent people who comment on blogs or are political activists, or anything like that. I CARE about unemployment, but I WONT decide an election. The millions of people who dont know what Delaware Liberal is are the ones you need to focus on. Many of them are willfully uninformed and proudly ignorant, but their vote gets counted too. attack me all you want. It wont change reality. Maybe you can wish more harm upon me…. that seemed to do a lot.
The biggest problem with Weiner weren’t the tweets, which were creepy. It was the lying about it, especially to Pelosi. That’s why he faced such a firestorm of criticism.
Cassandra, most voters arent you
You know, I already noted that there is little to no *polling* that shows that voters don’t care about unemployment. You can make this about me and Delaware Liberal all you want, but the fact is that you spent a fair bit of time on this blog showily handwringing over Anthony Weiner and *now* you want to blame voters for being more interested in reality TV? *You* certainly spent more time getting all Church Lady over this business than you did on this request for action, so again, feel free to congratulate yourself on your priorities.
Madame, You have no idea what i do with the 98% of my day that i dont spend in this forum. Just because i dont fawn over your high and mighty posts doesn’t mean Im not involved or i dont care. You seem to be the one who thinks they only way people can prove their porgressiveness is by doing it here in front of you. This is for play play. This is where i get to say things anonymously that wont really fly in a “real” discussion. So keep assuming things about me and my character and my priorities you LeftaBag. You just bully and attack people you THINK you’ve never met who challenge your dogmatic view of how things ought to be. It’s really ugly and counter productive. You are rude, ungracious and totalitarian in your views. People like the personality you choose to have on this blog ( the real cassandra is much nicer) are much worse for the cause than even Weiners because it makes progressives seem just as close minded and uncompromising than as Teabags.
This is still not about me, you know, and it is pretty amazing that you won’t even take your self-congratulatory turn here for getting the thing that you advocated for.
When the CW decides that the Democrats really should have been working on jobs, you’ll show up here repeating that business as something *progressives* should be doing. And I’ll remind you of this exchange then.
And for the record — your effort to push back at any of my critiques of so-called progressives priorities by invoking personality or meanness doesn’t mean anything to me, so you can save that for the girls who *do* need your approval, ok?
Game, set, match to Cass.
“If getting your goals accomplished is something that is important to you than you should do whatever you legally can to get then accomplished. If you can gain political points for a greater end by throwing someone off the island who really did do something bad, than you should do it.”
Wrong. Because now you have turned it not into a contest of ideas, but a lying contest. I don’t know what your greater ends are or if I agree with them. But by choosing your stated path, you made that a moot point. You aren’t interested in what the people want — you’re only interested in what YOU want. That’s Republican thinking. Running as puritans is a lie, and frankly it would cost the Democrats more than it would gain. Lots of people sick of the system you have chosen to embrace would emulate me and refuse to vote for a candidate who might as well run under the banner Republican Lite — same corporate friendliness, 1/3 less crazy! I’d rather run as the party that cares about society, the community, and not just themselves.
I think I have math on my side. My hypothesis is that no number of wrongs makes a right. Call it Geezer’s Last Theorem.
This would be a much different discussion if he was a republican… and i’d still be saying he should resign.
I didnt say commit wrongs. Asking an unethical liar who cant control himself to not be involved in the law making of this country is not wrong.
pointing out that one group ejects people who misbehave while another embraces them is not wrong.
And why do we vote for progressive candidates if not to get our idea inacted. Just because a large group of people at one point opposed same sex marriage doesnt mean we shouldnt have still fought for it. The argument that “people dont want your ideas so dont force it on them” is wrong. MOST of the good things done in this country happened with a majority of people either opposing it, or not supporting it one way or the other. in 1776, only 1/3 of the people wanted independence from Britain. What the people want is often outdates, a misconception, or…. when most of the country wanted segregation…. was wrong. I want workers to be treated fairly, and if some of them have ot be dragged kicking and screaming away from their comfortable corporate masters, so be it.
IOKIYAR is in full effect.
Sorry to see him go…
Luv the headline though!
I’d only amend it with: A Deflated Weiner Pulling Out. 🙂
Frankly, I think the Dems caved on Weiner. He could have – and should have – survived this. Looks like (at this time) that his wife is standing by his side. This demanding his resignation is stupid, and it isn’t like the Ds will reap any benefit from it. Did I mention how stupid this was?
If Weiner’s actions didn’t affect you personally, then why do you care? To me it’s a loss of another progressive voice, and the idea that there will be a “reward” for this action…. bwhahahahahahaha!
You just bully and attack people you THINK you’ve never met who challenge your dogmatic view of how things ought to be. It’s really ugly and counter productive. You are rude, ungracious and totalitarian in your views. We should expect more from our elected officials. It’s a no brainer to get rid of him.
Just b/c Weiner is on “my side” doesn’t mean I’m going to lower my standards I think should be applied to everyone else.
he’ll be just fine as a lobbyist or whatever it was he was promised by NP and the rest of the dirty back room deal makers offered him.
Polls showed they wanted Weiner to quit too. 54% of Independents said he should go.
INDEPENDENT voters.
http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/WeinerPoll.pdf
they didn’t want this albatross into next year with that block of Voters. he’s gone, another GOP strawman is gone too.
it’s the right move.
Just b/c Weiner is on “my side” doesn’t mean I’m going to lower my standards I think should be applied to everyone else.

Oh come on mommy, I’m sure you wouldn’t be whistling this tune if Weiner was tweeting your daughter.
laugh away though, I get much more respect for applying my standards evenly than ANYONE at this place.
Regardless, my opinion stands. He had to go. You can’t be put out there as the fresh face of the party and then have your dick hanging out there in public.
no way you weather that storm.
Everything’s dirty, everything’s corrupt. Let’s dissolve the government and put the folks I want, acting in the way I want, in charge.
Or everything’s fine, carry on.
Both views are pure fantasy.
If I remember correctly, P’s daughter is what, like 15?
I’d expect a better argument from you, dv, than an emotionally charged one. That comparison makes no sense.
Don’t disagree with that. In the end though, if you are going to point blank lie and then get caught..come on man. You gots to go
I didn’t mean her daughter at her current age…geeez I meant her daughter at any age. I wasn’t clear on that.
I have a 19 year old and an 18 yo and I wouldn’t like it at all.
Oh yes, DV, you’re my moral compass. As far as “respect for applying [my] standards evenly”… I have never called for anyone to step down over sex. I have pointed out “family values” hypocrisy, but I’ve never tut-tutted over the dirty deed. Stop acting as if you’re the only one who “keeps it real” – which is nonsense, and a really silly phrase.
And while you’re at it, tell me how Weiner’s resignation helps anything we believe in? Are you, and others, expecting brownie points from Republicans, or is it just a morality thing to you? Hey, I just cracked myself up, again.
One more thing… keep my daughter out of this discussion, DV. Don’t. Go. There.
Interesting, but not a shocking response from you at this point. Attack, attack, attack. That’s all you guys/gals do.
I never asked to be your moral compass. I don’t recall this being solely about sex. But, it sure seems to be a lot about what the other side would do. Which, sure seems to be the wrong moral compass one should judge by.
And I do keep it real. It may be silly. But I guess, so is not wanting a congressmen, with a pregnant wife, flashing his pecker, lying about it, lying some more, to not be someone representing what I stand for in congress.
Sorry, just me. I expect more from my politicians. Regardless if he said swell things about health care and is really good on Rachel Maddow.
Once again, my independent views are with the majority of the country.
One more thing… keep my daughter out of this discussion, DV. Don’t. Go. There.
I was trying to make a point. I’m sorry. Sincerely. It was not intended to come out the way it did. Honestly.
Just wait for when they’re in college! Oh boy!
Crazy stuff goes on there, I knows!
Weiner resigning serves what? Showing that Dems hold themselves to a higher standard and stupid swing voters will magically realize that they can be trusted with the keys? Hasn’t worked before, ain’t gonna work now.
At least GOPers, unless its stuff they hate with all their might – closet gay or showing up at an anti-gun rally, say fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me! And thats even when their hypocrites! What Weiner did was not hypocritical. And don’t say the lying thing is the reason he should go. Wow, a pol who lied once, so rare! 😉
here’s the question. Is this a higher standard?
Shouldn’t it be “THE” standard. Or the MINIMUM standard?
I don’t care what the other side does. I really don’t. You go flashing your pecker around, have a wife of only a year that is knocked up and then lie about when you are busted (of course he’s going to lie i know)
I really don’t see how I can say that b/c the idiots on the “other” side didn’t fire their guys, that ours should stay really solves anything. I don’t see how it raises the bar, a very low bar I might add. I don’t see how it doesn’t do any thing but good things for the party.
They are the party that get’s rid of the perverts, the creeps REGARDLESS of ideology.
Call me crazy, but I would think, something like that is going to resonate with people in the middle. The voters they need in a year…
I’m with VC 100%. I don’t see what Weiner’s resigning accomplishes. What’s our reward?
BTW, thanks for the sincere apology, DV. I have always made clear that kids are off the table.
Not a problem.
I don’t know what you mean by “our”. I really don’t.
Do you mean as a democrat?
As a progressive?
What exactly had he accomplished while in office again that’s going to be so missed?
He made great speeches on C-Span. whoop de do…
what can’t he do outside of congress that he can’t do inside? If anything, wouldn’t working as a lobbyist be better. Christ, look at how well they have wrecked this country.
I laid out my reasons why it’s a good thing. At least I thought I did.
They want independent voters. Plain and simple if you ask me. This helps them win some.
Semantics.
My standard is for a politician to fight for what he and I believe in. Break a law? Depends on the law. Shit, most people I know break laws everyday. Personal choices? Well that is rather subjective and to each its own, I guess, and standardizing personal choices would be quite difficult.
Weiner’s situation is not about right and wrong; it’s all about perception. The fradycatz in congress don’t want to be perceived as condoning. The media perceives that his wife’s angry, plus they perceive an excellent ad time selling opportunity….thats all that really matters to them anyway!
Again… agree with VC 100%.
If the Dems/Progressives think there’s a positive payoff in this they don’t understand politics.
Glad you agree, P. I do appreciate dv’s view on this matter, and yes, this country would be better off if elected officials held themselves to a higher standard than our own. But, all in all, thats somewhat unrealistic and good people do make mistakes.
I am officially done with Weinergatastan! And, as always, I blame the eight-grade-ish media, and Weiner too, plus Obama, of course! 😉
It is amazing how Weiner now has pedo stink on him even though he didn’t do anything wrong with a minor. Good luck clearing up the record on that one though.
“Ha Ha”…quotation from Nelson Mandela Muntz
While Vitter’s still in Congress I see nothing for Republicans to crow about.
Yes, puck, that’s what happened when you shred your credibility.
If the Dems/Progressives think there’s a positive payoff in this they don’t understand politics
your mistake here is conflating the 2. Progressive does not equal Dem
He’s a flasher.
a common perv with a little bit of technology.
and most of you are sad to see he is no longer the Democrat standard bearer, the screetching public face of your party.
