Let’s Hear It for Evolution
The 2011 Miss USA “scholarship” pageant was held last night in Las Vegas. Out of the 51 contestants, only two of them said that they believed in evolution.
Out of all the contestants in last night’s Miss USA pageant, only two affirmed they thought evolution should be taught in schools.
The winner, 21-year-old Alyssa Campanella was one of the two. The rest either confused the question with evolution of species (versus the intelligent design debate), or stated that they thought both should be taught in school, according to Scientific American.
Campanella and Alida D’Angona from Massachusetts were the only two contestants to state that they fully believed in evolution, according to Think Progress.
Can you guess which states the ones who don’t believe in evolution hail from? Here’s a hint:
Perhaps most prominently was Miss Alabama, Madeline Mitchell’s opinion that evolution should flot-out not be taught in schools.
Holy shit.
Lets hear it for “revolution”. Sick and tired of the two party system acting like one. Sick of Obama turning against progressives every time. Sick of the endless wars, and violation of international law, Geneva Conventions and the Consitution. If anyone thinks Biden running the show regarding what gets cut, you better read what Kantor is reporting on today at the Hill. We are on a slippery slope to fascism, ala 1930’s germany.
Someone is off his meds today.
1930’s Germany ruined slippery slopes for everybody.
Yeah, that and the name Adolph. You don’t run into many kids named Adolph these days.
Now let’s get this straight. This is a political newspaper, that just happens to be doing an un-bias article on evolution opinions of Miss USA contestants, right. Then why do I get the feeling that the person who wrote this article is “Origin challenged”. Remember, the plain things are the main things! http://www.squidoo.com/the-origin-of-men
It’s a beauty pageant. Don’t expect much more than Palin-esque responses to legitimate (yet very soft) questions and you’ll never be disappointed.
Still, if a large majority of the contestants declared gravity, or the hydrologic cycle to be something that should not be taught in school, we’d have a problem with it.
This scientific illiteracy is bad for the country.
Just what the republicans wanted – dumbed-down women
easier to keep them bare-foot, pregnant and in the kitchen
what was that about Hamid Karzai and his feelings bout education for women??
can we say – American Taliban? – wonder how Bachman would look in a burqua?
As long as all the contestants were in favor of World Peace.
Jesus, protect us from your followers.
