The great and virtually unknown Bill Callahan and his take on America:

Bill Callahan: “America!”
Philly’s Own:

The War On Drugs: “Baby Missiles”
A totally gorgeous sound wash:

Bon Iver: “Calgary”
There’s a reason why this is everywhere. The song of the summer:

Foster the People: “Pumped-Up Kicks”
Depressed and a bit depressing. Catch him while he’s still with us:

Cass McCombs: “County Line”
Old-school soul from this artist’s brand new debut album:

Charles Bradley: “The World (Is Going Up In Flames)”
This one gives me chills. Maybe it’s nostalgia for a childhood I never had, I don’t know:

Angus & Julia Stone: “Santa Monica Dream”
Goodbye ’til next time, when I do an all-local edition. Send me your suggestions now!

Good find on Bill Callahan. Always reminded me a bit of Lambchop. I liked him as Smog, especially River Guard:

So was Cass McCombs, and I’ll be exploring more Angus & Julia Stone.
Lambchop: The Daily Growl

Thanks, Mis. There’s a far more depressing vid for ‘County Line’ that I was unable to dig up. Suffice it to say that I suspect that happiness is not a condition that comes easily to Cass McCombs.
Lambchop’s incredible. Kurt Wagner and whoever happens to be in Nashville at any given moment. And that’s a perfect mellow Saturday AM song. Thanks for sharing, and more, please.
Also, I’ve already identified New Sweden and The Sky Drops for my upcoming local ‘Music I Like’ entry. Everybody, I need more suggestions. BTW, New Sweden is preparing their new album for release, but they need a few extra $$’s. Check ’em out here:

Lambchop!
Miscreant, El Som AND me are fans of Lambchop? Guess the drinking starts early today…..
Am definitely getting the Charles Bradley — he is a great find!
As for your request for local talent, you could add Rachel Schain to your list. She was this year’s choice for favorite upstate musician by Delaware Today. Bruce Anthony is the winner for downstate favorite musician.
I’ve seen Rachel Schain. I LIKE Rachel Schain. Great choice! I’ll see if I can dig up a vid of hers.
If you can’t find anything immediately, I can ask her for a vid. Just let me know!
Thanks for the heads up, Cass!
Did someone say my name? I am all too happy to oblige. Here’s a video of me singing the song I wrote about XStryker (cue the AWWWWs): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InDPJfNAo7I
And here is a video of me at my show in Chicago 2 weeks ago, singing the song Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders said “rocks”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWDmO639RL0
I’ll be playing at The Bellefonte Cafe on Thursday from 6-8, and then a free lunchtime show at The World Cafe @ The Queen on 7/29 (12-1).
Lambchop fan here, too! Love Wagner’s voice. David Byrne does a sweet cover of their “The Man Who Loves Beer.” Check it out.
