This seems like a pretty big deal given her prestigious position and close ties to Rupert Murdoch.

Updated at 9:17 a.m.: Rebekah Brooks has been arrested by police investigating allegations of phone hacking by the News of the World and allegations that police officers were bribed to leak sensitive information, The Guardian reports.

The Metropolitan police said a 43-year-old woman was arrested at noon on Sunday, by appointment at a London police station.

I sure hope they frisked her hair.

How will this impact her starring role in the upcoming Janis Joplin biopic?

  3. Who’s the next person up on the totem pole? James Murdoch? Roger Ailes?

I have the feeling the story might really explode over here if they confirm that NewsCorp hacked the phones of 9/11 victims.

  4. Are we going to see any heads roll at Scotland Yard? Some officer reportedly took bribes. How much scrutiny is on David Cameron? He’s good friends with Murdoch and hired one of the people arrested in the scandal.

James Murdoch is next in line. And there seems to be some question as to why Brooks was arrested and not Young James too. This article from the Guardian lays out what is at stake for the Murdoch’s and that they really seem on the verge of losing here. I can’t decide if Les Hinton resigning on Friday (head of Dow Jones) portends the revelation of more hinkiness or was a massive measure of self-protection for News Corp.

I do know that the FBI and the DoJ need to be all over this like white on rice.

It will be interesting if either the FBI or Scotland Yard investigations turns up anything on FAUX News doing the same crap over here. We might be seeing the end to FAUX News.

  7. The Metropolitan Police Commissioner has announced his resignation regarding the scandal.

The Mayne Report is a shareholder activism site working on getting shareholders more involved in the governance of the companies they own. Most of this work is in Australia. They own shares in News Corp and showed up at the annual meeting last October to ask Murdoch about the accusations of phone hacking and challenge News Corp governance. Interesting reading.
