Now they want to make sure Obama pays Social Security, Soldiers and makes sure bond holders are not adversely impacted in the event of a default.

They want to be saved from themselves. It’s frustrating because numerous experts have been telling them the consequences and the GOP’s response has been lalala I can’t hear you.
I’m surprised they also didn’t demand that congress and congressional staff also continue to get paid. First thing that shouldn’t get paid is them, followed by the electric bill on Capitol Hill, followed by the internet bill, followed by their cell phone bills etc.
What they are really trying to do is stop payments to federal employees and federal programs – employees and programs that provide essential services to everyone in this country. They believe it will make us realize how little we need government. Yet what we will all find out is that we need a functioning government more than ever right now.
The debt ceiling has little to do with defaulting. The government would just need to pay as it goes. There is enough money to pay bondholders, social security, and the troops. Maybe what we should do is sell the social security IOU’s and pay it out of them. Reduce the debt we hold and buy Municipal bonds, triple A corporate bonds, and agency bonds.
