    First!

  2. Jason330 says:

Prediction: The President will say that both sides need to compromise. That Democrats need to realize that Social Security is bankrupting the treasury. That he has faith in the patriotism of John Boehner. That the American people want more austerity. Etc.

  3. donviti says:

    do you work?

  4. V says:

the conference will consist of Obama sitting on the steps next to the podium, eating a sandwich, and crying silently as he swallows a mouthful of turkey and cheese.

  5. Jason330 says:

I’m a “myriadtasker” (c) 2011. It is an order of magnitude above a multitasker.

  6. donviti says:

are we just BS’ing till the mighty O steps up to the plate?

I feel like the blogging corp wrapping with the other rags about nothing in particular.

  7. Jason330 says:

Obama says solution must be bipartisan – so 14th is out. I don’t know how he thinks the GOP is going to vote for anything.

Honestly – the last guy on the planet who thinks that the GOP is negotiating in good faith is Obama. I don;t get it.

  8. Jason330 says:

Obama just endorsed GOP’s crazy ass “enforcement mechanism” eg. balanced budget amendment, for cutting debt.

    Oh jesus.

  9. Truth Teller says:

He should demand a clean bill nothing less and should congress fail to deliver he should tell them that he will not allow the Repuks to damage this country and will go forward without them.

    Wait am i dreaming?

  10. Jason330 says:

Still trying to be the adult in the room. What good is being the adult when you give the fucking temper tantrum children EVERYTHING they want?

  11. Jason330 says:

“He should demand a clean bill nothing less”

Not happening. Obama wants to cut SS and medicare. He is going tio get it when he gives up on the short term requirement.

  12. Jason330 says:

Just expressed faith in Boehner. I knew it.

  13. donviti says:

is there irony in the fact that a report out today shows Obama made the recession worse b/c he agreed with the GOP back in 2009/2010?

    http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/2011/07/one_more_important_number.php?ref=fpblg

oh, but the Dow is still at 12,500 today. No worries

  14. Jason330 says:

I don’t think something can be ironic while being that predicable.

  15. Jason330 says:

The President will say that both sides need to compromise. Check.

That Democrats need to realize that Social Security is bankrupting the treasury. Check.

That he has faith in the patriotism of John Boehner. Check.

That the American people want more austerity. Check.

  16. puck says:

    removing duplicate post

  17. Rebecca says:

Call for the American people to keep the pressure on Washington. He’s making sure the voters are engaged here. Hard to stay in a bubble of ignorance when he’s calling you out on your patriotic duty. It’s one step toward Jason’s reveal. Boehner is the next Gingrich.

  18. Jason330 says:

He still wants us to call Congress:

    John Carney (302) 428-1902,
    Chris Coons (302) 573-6345,
    Tom Carper (302) 573-6291

  19. puck says:

Insistence on bipartisanship and expression of faith in Boner is Obama’s eleven-dimensional way of holding Boner’s feet to the fire and refusing to save him from the teabaggers. I like it.

“No, I won’t save you with some shady solution that will put my Presidency in jeopardy. Go take your damn votes and take responsibility for the outcome .”

I’m not watching at the moment though

  20. Jason330 says:

“It’s one step toward Jason’s reveal.”

As Democrats, if we didn’t have hope – we’d have nothing.

  21. Dominique says:

Oh, Jason. If he told you to jump off a bridge, would you post directions?

I love his brand of leadership – Tweet your congressman because I am utterly incapable of leading on my own.

    Pathetic.

  22. Jason330 says:

This is the dkos version of my notes above. We heard it a little differently.

7:38 AM PT: He’s up. Right now, the House is still trying to pass a bill that the Senate won’t vote for and would force us to relive this whole mess in 6 months. Doesn’t resolve the problem, can’t become law. We have to have a bipartisan bill, something that doesn’t just please “one faction.”

7:39 AM PT: Either Reid or McConnell plan would be viable, Senate needs to work on their plans to find something that the House will take. But let’s all just compromise.

7:40 AM PT: Almost out of time. We have until Tuesday. The credit rating is at risk. We don’t have a “triple A political system” to meet our triple A credit rating. That’s an understatement.

7:41 AM PT: This shouldn’t be a crisis. “There are plenty of ways out of this mess but we are almost out of time.” Hinted at wanting a clean debt vote.

7:42 AM PT: Keep the pressure on Washington. Call, email, tweet. “The time for putting party first is over”

7:42 AM PT: Basic message: compromise now.

No mention of the GOP’s crazy ass “enforcement mechanism” eg. balanced budget amendment,

  23. donviti says:

Do you have the phone number to the Obama I voted for? I’d like to call THAT GUY!

  24. puck says:

Boehner’s situation reminds me of movies where the guy is handcuffed to a pole in a room with rising water, and given a hacksaw. Can’t cut through the steel in time…

  25. anonone says:

GDP revised down to 1.3% growth, unemployment rising, poverty rising, heading toward a doubly-dip recession, which is exactly why we need an austerity plan. Not.

    Worst. Democratic. President. Ever.

  26. puck says:

“Do you have the phone number to the Obama I voted for? I’d like to call THAT GUY!”

Comment of the day. Although Obama right now is closer to being that guy than he was in December. Subject to change of course.

  27. Dominique says:

    Worst. Democratic. President. Ever.

    Kind of saw that coming.

  28. Jason330 says:

Listening to Obama just now, I have to conclude that the Teabags have all the leverage. Obama cannot let the country default. They will make an outrageous 11th hour demands and will get whatever craziness they ask for because Obama simply will not use the non-bipartisan 14th remedy.

I’m sure everyone in DC got the message.

  29. Geezer says:

“Worst. Democratic. President. Ever. Kind of saw that coming.”

No you didn’t. You just disliked him from the get-go because he had the nerve to challenge your precious Hillary. When he won you then got really ugly. You showed what you were during all that. Don’t pretend you’re something else. We can’t unread what you wrote back then.

  30. socialistic ben says:

yay dom! the country is screwed. you were right all along. I bet you feel so goooooood about yourself.

  31. V says:

I would have preferred the turkey and cheese sandwich

  32. Jason330 says:

That would at least have had some poetry to it.

  33. puck says:

With the caveat that I am not actually watching this…

Obama is still challenging the GOP establishment to smack down the Tea Party and all its bullshit economic theories. Ruling out the 14th thing is part of increasing the pressure on Boehner to come up with a solution.

If you ever believed the business community would call and persuade the GOP to cave, they are probably sending thugs now to deliver the message personally.

  34. Jason330 says:

Smack Down? Are you kidding? I take no comfort in being right about this:

Just minutes after President Obama urged the parties to come together and avert this default crisis, things are actually going backwards in the House. And in pretty incredible fashion.

To secure enough votes from his own members for his plan, Speaker Boehner is amending it to basically turn it into Cut, Cap, and Balance Lite.

Here’s the key new provision that is apparently going to win enough GOP votes to pass the bill:

The debt ceiling would be raised immediately but not by enough to get the government through next year. To get the second debt ceiling increase, House Republicans want a balanced budget constitutional amendment to pass both chambers first and be referred to the states.

It will be bi-partisan when it passes the Senate and is signed by the Pres two seconds before midnight.

  35. donviti says:

My retirement plan just went from $1 a saturday to $10 a Saturday on powerball.

I may toss in a scratch off as supplemental income for the hell of it

But, with any luck, maybe we can get a Super Majority in Congress next election and a majority in the senate to right this ship! Man, if Obama get’s that, we are sooooo good to go

  36. socialistic ben says:

If he DID use the 14th amendment, the mass-voting-morons would be convinced by their talky picture boxes that he has become the tyrant Sarah Palin said he would be.
Not true OF COURSE. he is actually the least forceful leader this country has seen in a while, but our news media doesn’t let silly things like truth fuck with their rating. He’s gotta play the game by the rules that are set up. like it or not. I think putting it all on Boehner is a great plan. Orange man’s only choice will be to take the needed sane repuke along with the Dem caucus and pass the Reid Plan. He will surely know this will end him.
I’m gonna enjoy watching that traitorous ass-hat dive onto his sword. Speaker West…. here we come. (not happy about that, but hopefully it will add some speed to the end of the GOP)

  37. Jason330 says:

As much as Obama seems to hate the idea of a “reveal” and as much as he bristles at the idea of calling out the GOP – I think the GOP is trying to egg him into a reveal.

If they get him to that point, I’m sure they’ll end up regretting it. I doubt they can get him to that point though.

  38. socialistic ben says:

I want to see a montage of all these teabags crying during the health care and energy debates about how radical sudden change is not good and we need measured long term fixes that ease the nation into change. Then i want to see another montage of the same teabags demanding immediate radical change without and lube.

  39. Jason330 says:

SB _ This is simply wrong. “I think putting it all on Boehner is a great plan. Orange man’s only choice will be to take the needed sane repuke along with the Dem caucus and pass the Reid Plan.”

Boehner has said that the Senate will fold if presented with a house plan. He believes it and is probably right to believe it.

  40. puck says:

The Reid plan isn’t all that sane either.

Boehner’s “they’ll fold like a cheap suit” statement is probably on the locker room wall in the Senate. Bad idea.

The Senate won’t fold unless Obama wants it to – always a possibility.

  41. Jason330 says:

    Ya think?

  42. cassandra_m says:

SB _ This is simply wrong. “I think putting it all on Boehner is a great plan. Orange man’s only choice will be to take the needed sane repuke along with the Dem caucus and pass the Reid Plan.”

This is not wrong. Boehner has quite failed at controlling his caucus. He may get something to pass, but he is boxed way in. And the Boehner and Reid plans aren’t all that different, really. The biggest difference is over the two-step votes and the amount of cuts there. The Democrats in the Senate already sent to Boehner a letter saying that they won’t vote for his plan. All of them. Even Lieberman and Nelson.

    You should stop hyperventaliating here.

  43. Jason330 says:

Can’t stop… too much history… President’s bipartisan fetish working… contra to reali… reallit…. *KLUNK typist head hits keyboard.*

  44. Dominique says:

You shouldn’t unread what I wrote. You should print it out, plaster it on you walls and use it as a lesson the next time you want to elect in invertebrate.

I said from DAY ONE that he stood for nothing, he had no substance, he felt no passion for anything and he would be on par with (if not worse than) Jimmy Carter. You guys were so caught up in the idea of making history and electing the first black man that you forgot to take a look at his (in)ability to be decisive and to lead.

Hillary would obviously have been the better choice. But that’s ok. Keep making excuses for him and blaming everyone back to the baby Jesus for everything that’s transpired over the past 2.5 years if it helps you sleep at night. I know how much it hurts to admit to having supported someone who turns out to be a fraud. I once supported John Edwards.

  45. cassandra_m says:

You will feel alot better when you get that he isn’t talking to you — and specifically is not talking to you — when he’s doing that bipartisanship thing.

  46. Jason330 says:

Speaking for myself, I was caught up in electing someone who I thought would bring pain to the Republicans. I know I was silly to think that, but there it is.

  47. Jason330 says:

Oh believe me, I get that he is not talking to me. If there is one thing I get – it is that.

  48. socialistic ben says:

cass, the only thing passing the Reid plan would have as an advantage is the perception of a huge GOP defeat because of the Teaparty. Ive given up getting what i want. Ive given up changing the way washingotn works. All i can hope for now is that the politicians I have to support find a way to use the disgusting game to their advantage.

  49. Dominique says:

Actually, SB, you are correct. It feels sooooo good to be right. I’ve been purring for over two years now. Meow.

  50. donviti says:

This is not wrong. Boehner has quite failed at controlling his caucus.

sort of like how Nancy Pelosi couldn’t get all the votes she needed during the health care fiasco.

  51. donviti says:

It’s always refreshing when things get straightened out by Cassandra.

  52. Geezer says:

“It feels sooooo good to be right. I’ve been purring for over two years now. Meow.”

That comment illustrates exactly what you are. Hint: It isn’t a cat.

  53. Jason330 says:

Seriously Dude. Get another act. This current Cassandra baiting one is boring.

  54. donviti says:

It’s refreshing to see that one Obama voter on this site has finally been able to come clean over here and admit Obama is a huge disappointment.

I applaud it and am glad to see DL return to the form they had in 2007/8

  55. cassandra_m says:

cass, the only thing passing the Reid plan would have as an advantage is the perception of a huge GOP defeat because of the Teaparty.

Passing the Reid plan gives the impression that Democrats are more in control of their caucus (and HEY — where are the media narratives that the Republicans are in disarray?) and gives them something to work with to send over to the House. That won’t get through the House, either, but I’m thinking that the final deal will be a combo of the Reid bill and the McConnell thing.

What I’m no longer thinking is that they’ll make 2 August.

  56. Dominique says:

OOOOH, let me guess! I’m a dog – a female dog! I’m a BITCH! Did I get it right? Did I get it right?!?

YAY! It’s still OK to be sexist!

    PURRRRRRR….

  57. socialistic ben says:

DV, of course his presidency is a huge disappointment. Definetly a learning experience. Ive learned never to expect anything more than “gosh i hope this one doesnt end the world” from any politician.
I dont think many people dispute that.
What i WONT do is heap all the blame on Obama because it isnt all his fault. When you have one party dead set on destroying the country there isnt much you can do. Sure he could try to overreach his power, but I don’t want that. That is one thing i hoped from him that he as hactually delivered on… even though it has turned out poorly.
He should have been more forceful and realized there is no compromising with these Tbag lunatics, but it wouldn’t do any good. IT is like negotiating with terrorists. Their only goal is destruction so they have no incentive to negotiate. I’d like to see you, and a1, and the rest for once, acknowledge that the Teaparty is a powerful and evil political force that a president, acting as an EQUAL branch of government (even if it ISNT the mighty Ralph Nader) is not in a position to stamp out…… legally.

  58. socialistic ben says:

i think he was calling you a pussy. as in…. way to hide behind web anonymity to spew your vial filth because we all know you’d never do it if people knew who you were.
I’d have used the word coward myself.

  59. anonone says:

socialistic ben condemns Dominique for hiding “behind web anonymity to spew [her] vial filth because we all know [she’d] never do it if people knew [she was].”

Too funny because it comes from one of the most prolific name-calling anonymous commenters on DL.

  60. Dominique says:

Ummm…everyone knows who I am, douche. Donna Marshall. Mat Marshall’s mom. Dominique’s my real name. Duh.

    Do try to keep up.

  61. Dominique says:

    Also, Pussy = STILL SEXIST

    Geez.

  62. socialistic ben says:

i dont say anything here i wouldnt say to someone’s face. do you?
and that bit of hypocrisy was just for you, a1.

  63. Dominique says:

I am not ashamed of anything I’ve ever said here or on any other blog. I would absolutely say it to someone’s face AND they’d end up buying me a drink. Right, Jason? 🙂

  64. Geezer says:

Nope. I never use that term unless I’m talking about my dog, who just whelped three weeks ago (thanks for caring). No, I’m sorry, but the correct answer was “asshole.”

By the way, feel free to post your first-ever comment that sticks to issues without resorting to personal insults (before you post your next lazy answer, I post lots of comments that don’t include insults — but of course, that’s only when I’m not calling out history-rewriting assholes.) Good luck.

  65. Geezer says:

DV (and Donna too): There are several Obama voters at this site who are disappointed in him. Even if there weren’t, it wouldn’t excuse your pitiful excuse for contributions to the dialogue.

Why don’t you try posting something that doesn’t take a personal shot at someone who posts here? Oh, that’s right, you have the self-control of a sex-crazed weasel. Never mind.

  66. Geezer says:

Donna: The problem is that you couldn’t know at that time any of the things you claimed to “know” about Obama. He had no track record to speak of except his time in the Illinois state senate. You simply preferred Hillary — and you have no evidence at all that her fate would be any different from Obama’s. I seriously doubt the GOP would have treated the first woman and second Clinton in the presidency any differently than they treated the first black man.

And, as I wrote above, gloating about it shows exactly what kind of person you are.

  67. puck says:

“sort of like how Nancy Pelosi couldn’t get all the votes she needed during the health care fiasco.”

Nancy passed both health care bills, hers and the Senate’s.

Her crime was whipping progressives to break their pledge not to vote for a bill without a public option. And to progressive’s shame they folded. That marked progressives, the largest caucus, as weak and set them up for regular bitchslappings.

  68. Rebecca says:

Actually, it really doesn’t matter who we elect. ANY Democratic president will be subjected to a Republican-manufactured crisis so he or she cannot govern. It’s what they do.

  69. anonone says:

Actually, Rebecca, it does matter. A more politically astute Democratic President who worked for Main Street and not Wall Street would not have lost the House in 2010.

I wonder how the Dems expect to do well with Obama at the helm as the country slides into a recession heading into 2012?

  70. Geezer says:

“A more politically astute Democratic President who worked for Main Street and not Wall Street would not have lost the House in 2010.”

Nobody like that was running in 2008, unless you count Dennis “1%” Kucinich.

  71. Geezer says:

“I’d like to see you, and a1, and the rest for once, acknowledge that the Teaparty is a powerful and evil political force”

Yes. Their strength was in evidence the other day at the Tea Party Express rally in front of Congress, at which as many as 50 people were present.

  72. Jason330 says:

    Seventy Third!

  73. socialistic ben says:

i know they dont have many numbers anymore geezer, but you cant deny that they do have power in congress. that is all that matters. look how many thousands of people show up to support worker’s rights. we have NO ONE (of any influence) fighting for us in congress. How does it feel to know that the Teabaggers have better representation than the entire confederation of the progressive/liberal movement?

  74. cassandra_m says:

Yes. Their strength was in evidence the other day at the Tea Party Express rally in front of Congress, at which as many as 50 people were present.

And on the same day — the Rebuild the American Dream people had a rally in front of Congress which was better attended, and utterly in support of a progressive solution to this manufactured crisis. And you can’t find any coverage of this in the MSM. NONE.

  75. cassandra_m says:

Phone calls to the House spike up again.

What is interesting to me about these reports of phone systems being stressed out after these requests to call into Congress is that there isn’t much info on what these calls are saying. At least I haven’t seen anything on this. I’m thinking that if there was support for the teabagger approach to this thing we would have been hearing about this non-stop.

  76. Truth Teller says:

Never before has there been a debt limit bill that wasn’t clean so if this bill goes Thur with anything attached the White House would have caved once again.Obama has fooled me before with his wishy washy stands but I only hope he is faking it this time.

  77. Dominique says:

It’s so rich to be lectured by the viper pit about self control and making personal attacks after having been called a racist and even having one commenter wish harm on my child because she didn’t agree with my point of view. How will I ever find a way to sleep tonight? Sorry my snark is too much for your sensitive little hearts.

Thanks for proving my point about my (and everyone else’s) limited knowledge of Obama and how he would perform as president. That was the problem – you guys got all frothy at the mouth over someone who had absolutely NO record of achievement or leadership that would qualify him to be president. I didn’t know shit about him. The only difference between us is that I had the foresight to understand that his thin resume and his lack of conviction would make him a terrible president.

Sorry about your dog, Geezer. I mean that sincerely. I think dogs are the most amazing creatures on the planet.

  78. The House is getting ready to vote on Boehner’s bill, which is basically the same bill that got voted down a week ago. (Republicans love the Constitution so much they can’t wait to amend it). The Senate will kill it and then take up Reid’s bill. Sigh.

  79. Boehner’s fail bill squeaked through the House. No Dems voted yes. 22 Republicans voted no. Opposition to it is bipartisan! Tally 218-210

  80. Tigby says:

These guys are finally working? Wow, how long have I been sleeping?

  81. Tigby says:

That’s comedy.. Mitch Mconnel ( I don’t care if I spelled it right) said Reid was opposed to advancing his own idea.. Classic. What would socrates say?

  82. I’m pretty sure Socrates would say McConnell is a huge douchenozzle.
