Wednesday Open Thread

Welcome to your Wednesday open thread. I’m just hoping Wednesday is better than Tuesday, Tuesday was pretty miserable.

I’m just fascinated by the case of the Gore trust where one of the Gore children adopted her ex-husband to get more money from a trust established by her parents. A judge ruled against her (duh).

Vice Chancellor John W. Noble’s 77-page opinion, issued late Friday, prevents Susan Gore’s wing of the family from profiting from the controversial 2003 adoption, which national experts on adoption have said might be unprecedented.

By the adoption, Susan Gore, now 72, and her three natural sons sought a windfall from a trust established in 1972 by her parents, Genevieve W. and Wilbert L. Gore Sr. founded the high-technology firm that developed the Gore-Tex fabric popular with skiers, hikers and backpackers. W.L. Gore & Associates, still based in Newark, now spans the globe and had a record $2.7 billion in sales last year.

“This adoption was pursued for the sole, and improper purpose of thwarting or circumventing the [elder] Gores’ intentions,” Noble wrote.

I’m amazed they didn’t laugh this case out of court. I’m surprised this adoption was allowed at all. Hopefully this loophole is closed now.

The New Yorker has a funny post called “God’s Blog.” Here’s God’s blog entry:

UPDATE: Pretty pleased with what I’ve come up with in just six days. Going to take tomorrow off. Feel free to check out what I’ve done so far. Suggestions and criticism (constructive, please!) more than welcome. God out.

Here’s some of the comments

Not enough action. Needs more conflict. Maybe put in a whole bunch more people, limit the resources, and see if we can get some fights going. Give them different skin colors so they can tell each other apart.

The dodo should just have a sign on him that says, “Please kill me.” Ridiculous.

Beta version was better. I thought the Adam-Steve dynamic was much more compelling than the Adam-Eve work-around You finally settled on.

Enjoy!
