Blogger Does Good: The Tommywonk Story
Tom Noyes, the man behind Tommywonk, an expert in the filed of alternative and renewable energy, is leaving the blogging world for a job with the State of Delaware “in the area of renewable energy.” I hear he will be Governor Markell’s top energy advisor, but Mr. Noyes is more circumspect in his announcement this afternoon.
After 1,850 posts on TommyWonk over the last six and a half years, it’s time for me to turn my attention elsewhere.
Next week I start a job with the State of Delaware in the area of renewable energy. Having argued that renewable energy can and does make economic sense, I want to help make that happen. It’s work worth doing, and worth doing well.
Because the job involves many of the issues I have been writing about, I am taking a hiatus from blogging. I will also be stepping away from most of my other advocacy efforts. I plan to keep TommyWonk up to maintain a record of what I have written since 2005. I may return to blogging down the road, though I won’t make any promises.
I have been gratified by the many kind words I have heard from my readers along the way. Thank you all for your interest and encouragement.
No, Tom. Thank you. It has truly been a pleasure reading your work and your expertise over the last 6 years. You are the Dean of Delaware blogosphere, and will always remain so even if you’re now working for the Man. Best of luck in everything you do.
Delawareans owe Tom a real debt of gratitude. Our loss on the blogoshere is Delaware’s gain in state government. I’m thrilled for him.
Tom’s greatest moment was the whole Bluewater Wind project. He kept everyone honest back then.
I’m thrilled for Tom and for the state. I can think of nobody I’d rather have shaping our energy policy. A great choice by Gov. Markell, and I think it really demonstrates Jack’s commitment to a progressive energy policy.
Terrific news. Congratulations, Tom!!!
Thanks for your kind words. Just to be clear, I will be going to work at the DNREC Division of Energy, not the governor’s office.
Yeah, yeah. You’re still advising the Governor. Best wishes, Tom!
Tom, I have high hopes for what you may accomplish from the inside of government. I think you and Colin can approach issues as a team that you may not be able to gain traction for as individuals.
If for some reason, you find the position to “constraining”, we will hang on your every word upon your return.
Congrats!!!
Noyes maybe now can find the time to release the report on the March Delaware Environmental Summit that he has held (to attendees collective and vast disappointment).
Government jobs supposedly allow for a bit of free weekend time, paid holidays and plenty of salary so please, Tom, give the public our Summit Summary!!!!!
No congrats or best wishes, just straight into the demand and complaint. Nice.
Sorry we missed you, Nancy. The report has been e-mailed to you.
