If I Was In a Garage Band…
Back from dropping our daughter’s stuff off at college. 10 hours each way. We listened to Little Steven’s Underground Garage on satellite radio virtually the entire time. I now realize that perhaps my sole remaining dream in life is to sing in a garage band, at least for one night.
From time to time when the mood strikes, I intend to audition songs the band would perform. Starting with THIS one from the Kingsmen (no, not THAT one…):

The Kingsmen-‘Jolly Green Giant’
Can’t decide if I wanna sing lead or be the guy calling out the names of the vegetables…
If you would pay CASHMONEY to enjoy me in performance, let all prospective garage bands know. I’m available and I’m cheap.

Little Steven’s Underground Garage is one of the best curated music shows EVER. Now I’m going to have to look at getting satellite radio.
In other — sad — news: Jerry Leiber died today. RIP.
Very sorry to hear that. I’ll do a salute to Leiber & Stoller tomorrow.
Happier news, perhaps, Tom Waits has a new song streaming today and there may be more new music from him tomorrow.
Thanks, Cassandra! I’ve heard he was making a “BIG ANNOUNCEMENT” tomorrow, but your link just made me super happy super early. It’s been seven years since his last proper studio album, so I’ve definitely waited for a LOOOOOONNNNGGGGG while.
Wonder if it’ll be as memorable as THIS press conference:

OK, now *that* was awesome!
Here’s one for the Lieber tribute:

Good night.
Geez, Ashford & Simpson wrote almost all of those incredible Marvin Gaye/Tammi Terrell hits, not to mention several great ‘quiet storm’ songs for themselves.
And, as Ed Joost demonstrates, both Leiber/Stoller and Ashford/Simpson penned great songs that you might not otherwise associate with them.
Two great losses in such a short time.
Thanks, Ed, for giving them the sendoff they deserve. I will try to do them both justice as well later today. Feel free to keep ’em coming.
