Markell Slams Perry
Sometimes things get lost in a hurricane. Sometimes things like Governor Markell’s scathing look at Rick Perry’s “economic plan” on Politico.
Perry argues that if the nation adopts his approach to business development — based on less regulation, less taxation and less litigation — the economy “will absolutely take off like a rocket.”
Perry’s priorities are not unimportant. But there are lots of countries with no regulation, little taxation and no real threat of litigation — usually also where wages are low and much of the wealth resides with a tiny slice of the elite.
That’s a lousy model for middle-class Americans.
My experience in business — working for McKinsey, Comcast and Nextel — leads me to favor a different model for our nation: one focused on strengthening the middle class.
Reasonable taxes and appropriate regulations are important — but what drives wages is innovation. And innovators care far more about access to skilled and inspired talent than just about anything else. They’ll pay to get them.
Is it me or is Markell looking towards 2016?

It’s you.
It isn’t you Nemski. I’ve been saying this, and this clip makes it even more clear to me. Whether or not his final goal is to be the President of the United States, he is running of for the Democratic nomination in 2016. And if he is going to go around the country saying…” Reasonable taxes and appropriate regulations are important — but what drives wages is innovation. And innovators care far more about access to skilled and inspired talent than just about anything else. They’ll pay to get them.”
that is a good thing for America.
Markell gets points in my book for taking it to Perry.
It is fairly unusual for one sitting governor to directly criticize another. Something is up. Maybe Markell is just being a good Democrat, which is rare enough these days. I like when Democrats attack (by pointing out the truth).
Many believe Markell is making his mark so he can run in 2016? This isnt news.
Perry is nothing more than a Buffoon. However from Curley to all the ditto heads down here in Sussex he is the second coming. GO FIGURE
If Perry is the second coming – wonder who they will have play Satan
hoping I get that honor………….
Good for Governor Markell-telling it like it is about Texas. Taken beyond face value, job creation in Texas hasn’t been great at all given it’s rate of population growth. Delaware currently has lower unemployment than Texas. And like Texas, Nevada and Florida have no income tax and are right to work states…yet their unemployment rates are abysmal.
