Now the Republicans, you know, when I talked about this earlier in the week, they said, well, this is class warfare. You know what? If asking a billionaire to pay their fair share of taxes, to pay the same tax rate as plumber or teacher is class warfare, then you know what? I’m a warrior for the middle class. I’m happy to fight for the middle class. I’m happy to fight for working people, ‘cause the only warfare I’ve seen is the battle that’s been waged against the middle class over the last 10, 15 years.” – President Barack Obama, September 22, 2011

And can anybody explain why we should trust this?

  3. socialistic ben says:

because this time he really means it!!!!
This is like the significant other right around valentines day when they know you want to feel loved and NOT break up with them…. in our case for someone who walks around saying they will abuse us. They do everything they can to be the person you fell in love with BEFORE things got serious and you committed saying how different it was gonna be from here on out….
But like i said before, the only ther option is someone who’s argument to see THEM is, i’ll beat the crap outta ya and try to ruin your life…. but dont worry, my rich friend will get your money.

Can’t you dorks be a little bit happy that he is at least saying these things?

  5. puck says:

You don’t have to trust it. It’s still just talk. And as far as I know Obama hasn’t taken any of his center-right tax reform off the table, or his willingness to cut Medicare and Social Security. Because of Obama, we are still living with the job-killing Bush tax cuts, and the looming threat of safety-net cuts imposed by the deficit committee.

All this talk could just be the ocean receding before the tsunami.

But still, I’d rather hear Obama saying this than how he is reaching out for bipartisan solutions.

  6. puck says:

I think 40% approval ratings have done a lot to concentrate Obama’s mind lately.

  7. socialistic ben says:

Im happy he’s saying it, because i know (probably as Obama knows) that there are just as many stupid democrats as stupid teapublicans who will be roused by his language and get all happy about it. He isnt talking to smart people. Im happy to hear it in that i know it will work on more people than it wont work on. But that is just my utter contempt for most of the voting public talking. (i love everyone as people and a s fellow humans, but as fellow voters…… most of em can piss off)

My inbox is suddenly full of Dem fundraising appeals, all message-coordinated with Obama’s new “fight” theme. I hope he keeps it up after Sept. 30.

  9. anonone says:

Jason, why was my comment in this open thread “this is what fighting for the middle class looks like” deleted?

  10. puck says:

Anonone had linked to a report of the protests on Wall Street, which we really need to start paying attention to.
