As Furor Grows Over Sigler’s Endorsement of Racist Gathering, More Questions Arise
In addition to endorsing the racist ravings of a Sussex County disk jockey, DE GOP Chair John Sigler promoted the gathering on the GOP state website as a Republican event. It was in fact a fundraiser for an ultra-conservative PAC. How “ulta-conservative” is the PAC in question? So conservative that Joe Booth is too liberal for them.
It is not at all clear that people who attended the event knew if the money was being funneled to am ultra-conservative PAC and not the DE GOP as the web site implies. Granted, the vast majority of attendees were probably RWNJs but the practice seems shady to say the least.
Comment Rescue:
On September 1, DelawarePolitics.net put up an announcement for the Bull Roast and the comment section had to be closed after it was exposed that the PAC hosting it was the same PAC that tried to unseat Senator Joe Booth, and Don Ayotte had deleted the link to the Department of Elections page that showed the PAC supported Bodenweiser. Even Fay Voshell can be witnessed backing out of her support of the event in the comment section.
The PAC in question “The 35th Reprsenative DIstrict Conservative Committe” may have been named to try and blur the between the GOP establishment and the ultra-right wing extremists who favor Colley’s brand of white power Republicanism. But even so, Siglar clearly should have known that this was not a GOP event.
Here is a link to their DOE fling which shows that they were the group trying to unseat that lefty pinko, Joe Booth.
Calls are still out to Sigler.
Thanks for this information. I certainly thought it was a fundraiser for the County GOP party. Not at all surprised John Sigler would attend. As former Chair of the NRA, he would feel right at home in Sussex Co.
The PAC is run by St. Bodie Girl. Wonder if you get white high heels for you donation of $100 or more.
No, but you DO get a complimentary tango, or so I’m told. Just don’t let him lead.
Well there you have it. If not fraud, at least duplicity. Although, I’m sure for every person who feels duped, there will be ten here saying that if they knew the event was to raise money for Colley’s brand of white power Republicanism, they would have given more.
I don’t think he knows how to tango, but I have heard that he’s a whiz at doing The Jerk.
Called into Siglar’s office just now. I left a voice mail, and will update this post if and when I hear back from the Chairman.
“As former Chair of the NRA, he would feel right at home in Sussex Co.”
That statement was a bit disappointing, Ms. Brady. After all, you must have had a good reason for settling down in Sussex. I’ll take into consideration, during your time in your gated community in eastern Sussex, you’ve probably never met a real Sussex resident.
Mis – Sarah’s community is not gated. I know, I’ve been to her house. It’s the same community that Urkel lives in.
“I’ll take into consideration, during your time in your gated community in eastern Sussex, you’ve probably never met a real Sussex resident”
Yes, and may we please dispense with this kind of silly labeling. I am not defending the OP’s comment concerning the NRA, but I grow weary of this “you ain’t from around here are you boy?” attitude that so many longer-term residents of Sussex hold to others living in the county. Having grown up in the deep south, I am all too familiar with this type of attitude, and it is high time we move beyond it. I for one do believe that you need to get to know and understand the cultural and demographic characteristics of an area before you start demanding change and speaking out, but it does not matter if the person has lived in the area for 20 years or only 20 minutes. They have just as much right to be a “real” Sussex resident as the next. Get over it!
{Applause!!}
Post of the Day. Thank you for this observation.
Cassandra m, +1 for your avatar. That gave me a well-needed chuckle today…definitely need a bumper sticker that says that.
I am not sure where Jason gets the information that listing an event on a website is neccessarily endorsing the event as a Republican event. On the very same website there is a listing of the Delaware RailSplitters meeting in New Castle. This group has no ties to the Republican State Committee and defends their independence from the party. One can also go to other Republican sites and see notices of 9-12 meetings. The fact is some Republicans want this information and so it is on the website.
In the future one can expect to see notices for Newark Night and Dover Days. This is no endorsement of any of these events but instead a reminder of what is happenning in the community.
And I wouldn’t be surprised to see actual Klan meetings on the calendar since “The fact is some Republicans want this information and so it is on the website.”
Old Dover Days isn’t trying to pass itself off as part of the DE GOP. Also Old Dover Days isn’t hosted by a well known rabid racist. At least it hasn’t been since David Duke hosted it in 1981.
Yes, and may we please dispense with this kind of silly labeling. “I am not defending the OP’s comment concerning the NRA,…”
That’s probably a good thing, because the comment was rather ignorant.
“… but I grow weary of this “you ain’t from around here are you boy?” attitude that so many longer-term residents of Sussex hold to others living in the county.”
Not really giving a flying fuck what makes you weary. Just responding to a sweeping indictment of Sussex Countians by a transplanted resident whose Delaware experience has been somewhat limited to the beach area, and legislative hall.
“Having grown up in the deep south, I am all too familiar with this type of attitude, and it is high time we move beyond it.”
That qualifies you to pontificate? I lived in the “deep south” for three years, and a couple of years in the Midwest, and not necessarily in the nicest areas. That attitude can exist virtually anywhere.
“I for one do believe that you need to get to know and understand the cultural and demographic characteristics of an area before you start demanding change and speaking out, but it does not matter if the person has lived in the area for 20 years or only 20 minutes. They have just as much right to be a “real” Sussex resident as the next. Get over it!”
I suppose that’s your *opinion*. It’s a bit of a naive, over blown characterization, but everyone seems to have one, and it seemed to play well with Cassandra, for what that’s worth. I just take issue with people relocating here, and then proceeding to transform it into the shitholes from whence they came.
In the case of Ms. Brady: Her animus towards Mr. Sigler is well known, and I completely understand that. I don’t particularly like him, or his politics as well. He’s a complete idiot for appearing with Colley. But she crossed the line when she took a crude swipe at the residents of her county. She just showed her lack of knowledge about Sussex.
See, we differ in our opinions, so there’s nothing to “get over”. Think you can wrap your sizable head around that?

MJ- I know where she lives. Perhaps ‘exclusive’ would have been a better word. I haven’t been there, but have broke bread with Sarah and Jim on more than one occasion during the times she was trying to convince select members of the Delaware law enforcement community to support some draconian gun laws. It didn’t work, but we were very polite and all had a good time. She’s quite an interesting character, which is why I took exception to her statement.
John Sigler endorsed the event and put the Delaware GOP seal of approval on the event, when he accepted their invitation to be a speaker.
Exclusive yes and no, Mis. Sure you need 7 figures to be able to buy something there, but no restrictions on walking through or going close to the houses while on the beach, etc. I thought about mooning Urkel one day on the beach, but then I heard he has a mancrush on gay Jews, so I decided not to. 🙂
Note: For the RWNJ’s and anyone else with only 2 spark plugs functioning (Curley, that would be you), the last sentence is a joke.
75% of the proceeds went to the state party. The PAC leadership all happen to be committee people of their local region. It is a party event. It should be promoted on the web site.
So the state GOP is explicitly affiliated with this gathering hosted by a racist “entertainer” to the point of benefiting from it. That seems worse to me.
Day three. No call back from Siglar. Starting to think that he may never call me back.
Colley does not permit comments on his WGMD blogs & Sigler does not return phone calls. The solution?
(1) Comment on Colley’s homophobia and racism on EVERY SINGLE post on WGMD’s website. Let’s show them that permitting fatty to close his comments on their site was a big, big mistake.
(2) If Sigler will not answer questions, begin contacting every other GOP party and elected official in the state by email and telephone. Let’s see if they are proud and supportive of the new Delaware RepubliKlan Party. Post a list of who has been contacted and when and what they had to say.
Better yet, show up to an event with a video camera and question GOP party and elected officials about the Fatman and his racist comments. Pull a Breitbart on them.
Comment by Miscreant: “…Not really giving a flying fuck what makes you weary. Just responding to a sweeping indictment of Sussex Countians by a transplanted resident whose Delaware experience has been somewhat limited to the beach area, and legislative hall.”
Fair enough. You raise a good point that the comment was an over generalization by the OP, so in that context, I can see where you are coming from. My comment was really to the point of long-term residents of Sussex pulling out the “your opinion or thought on the matter is not important since you haven’t lived here for XX years like I have,” which I hope you can admit is a pretty silly cop-out in any region of the country (and yes, I agree the assholes are everywhere).
Clearly, your exchange with the OP was not in this context, and no I did not think that my reference to living in the south “qualifies” me to “pontificate.” Another thing I learned from growing up in the south is a lot of people will assume you are a redneck hick simply based on your geographical location or the way your speak, so I think you and I would probably share some common ground on other misconceptions that some people hold toward Sussex residents. No “big-head” intentions implied.
Republican David should know that the Bull Roast wasn’t a “party event” that fact came out on his own website in the comment section that he told Don Ayotte to shut down:
http://www.delawarepolitics.net/take-back-our-state-bull-roast-2/
Don said this in #18:
This is a republican PAC and the money will be used to support republican candidates only and you know it.
Don put a link in his post to the PAC’s website. If you go to the “About” page, this is what it says:
Our goal is to help elect candidates who believe in these core principles of conservatism, regardless of their party affiliation, by recruiting volunteers for campaigns, assisting with literature drops, holding fundraisers, and networking with other grassroots organizations.
The host of this event is NOT a Republican PAC according to their own website.
Republican David is full of shit, and Sigler advertised the Bull Roast on the party’s website and spoke there because Sigler is 100% part of the crazy.
