The Deltones, a cappela group from the University of Delaware that was chosen to compete with 15 other groups on a new reality show on NBC called “The Sing-off,” were a hit among the judges last night. They have advanced forward to the next round. The Deltones have 15 members, 10 alumni and five current UD students. The winners of “The Sing-Off” will get $200,000 and a recording contract.
Meanwhile, Senators Coons and Carper and Congressman Carney jointly announced a $3 million grant to Delaware’s Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program. This programe helps Delaware’s at-risk families receive home visits from nurses and social workers to improve maternal and child health, child development, school readiness, economic self sufficiency and child abuse prevention.
is it uncool of me to let everybody know the Deltones are sort of jerks? I can say that with confidence even several years post graduation because there are so many alumni in the TV version that some were there when i was also in the a capela community.
They don’t talk to anybody, never came to a capella community parties or helped much in organizing events, and are incredibly insular and self-absorbed. They ARE really talented, but there was always a lot of, “we’re better than you, we dont’ have to socialize.” I think maybe one of them ever talked to me at dozens of gigs. ever.
I’m super psyched for the UD ac community, but honestly they’re the least group i would have liked to see. A lot of my UD non-singing friends are all over FB rooting for them, but the majority of my ac alumni friends are pretty quiet.
I would highly reccomend going to UD’s DelAc this winter if you like the show. UD does have a great deal of awesome group ac talent (including the Deltones).
The ONLY thing Christie has done since he became governor I agree with – http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/27/nyregion/christie-blocks-tax-credit-for-jersey-shore.html?_r=1&ref=nyregion
Yeah, definitely.
Should I be alarmed to learn that there is an “a capela community” in Newark?
Jersey Shore transcripts performed verbatim in the style of Oscar Wilde. More on YouTube.
well there’s like 8 different groups at the school. I didn’t know what else to call it.
also, that jersey shore oscar wilde thing is awesome. everyone go watch it.
No, not alarmed, Jason. You should be panicked.
anon for the moment,
Just kidding. I’m becoming a bit of an a capella fan.

My son is watching Futurama reruns in the other room and I am pretty sure I just heard the Howard Dean scream used as part of the soundtrack to some action scene.
An obituary of Tom Capano that does not mention his crime:

Followed by a guestbook that can hardly be believed:

‘Celebrating a life well-lived’??
Words fail me.
Reading that obituary, that Capano sounds like a great guy!
Ya know, I miss that guy already. Remember when he used to blast the Temptations to drown out the sounds of the gun shots? Or how about when we would all go out on the boat, always with a full cooler? And, man, could that guy cut a rug!
“He was many things to many people.”
Yes, indeed, the most despicable person I have ever known.
I’m stunned by that Obituary. And I’m stunned by the guestbook. I wonder of the NJ isn’t moderating contributions to that.
The obit was likely written by the family. It’s not like the whole story can’t be found elsewhere in the News Journal and in the comment sections on the news stories.
The guestbook isn’t out of line (as of this writing). There is nothing there praising Capano. It is appropriate for friends to express sympathy to the family, and wish for them to find some better memories to comfort them. They lost their father, son, brother, and husband years ago, and now have lost him again.
I hope the guestbook is being moderated; otherwise imagine what would be there instead.
Can you believe someone actually wrote this about Capano: “Celebrating a life well lived. We will cherish the memories forever.”
A life well lived?
MJ I read Tom Capano’s obituary yesterday and my heart went out to the victims he left behind and that definately included his children.
What a cruel obit to put in TNJ. “Tommy was a swell guy!” He just murdered his mistress in cold blood, employed his brothers to dispose of the evidence, made it so the Fahey’s will never have the comfort of knowing Ann Marie’s final resting place, and then tried to pin the whole thing on his OTHER mistress.
If they are not the most disgusting family to ever inhabit the state of Delaware I don’t know who the Hell is.
Whatever your feelings about Tom Capano, this funeral is not about him. It’s about his family, primarily his children. All shots/slurs/insults taken during this time are aimed at them. Is that really the goal?
My sympathy goes out to them. Let them be.
There’s no use crying over spilt milk after the bucket has been kicked.

And do you remember the song?:
“I know you wanna leave me, but I refuse to let you go”.
Pandora appears to be the only person here with a heart.
Tom Capano’s children did absolutely nothing wrong. Let them have their peace.
