The Gingrich surge begins in Iowa, but not at the expense of Cain. Herman the Harrasser still is the frontrunner for the GOP nomination at 22%. In second place is…. Newton Three Wives Gingrich at 18%!!! Establishment favorite and serial flip flopper Mitt Romney is THIRD at 15%, and Bachman and Paul both get 11%.

David Brody:

“Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich were on stage together in what was billed as a classic Lincoln-Douglas style debate. As I sat and watched the entire event, I came away with one vivid impression: Did I just finish watching the Republican presidential ticket in 2012? Cain/Gingrich? Don’t laugh. It could happen. Romney has a ceiling of support and Rick Perry seems stuck in neutral.”

“Herman Cain’s poll numbers continue to impress and like Ronald Reagan, he seems to have a Teflon quality to him. Gingrich is steadily rising in the polls due to the fact that voters are starting to realize that this guy is REALLY smart and is an idea factory. Could this be a ticket that provides both style and substance?”

Tomorrow looks to be a great day in Ohio. Public Policy Polling (PPP) found that 59 percent of voters oppose SB 5, and will vote to reject that bill tomorrow during the referendum, while just 36 percent plan to approve it during Tuesday’s election.

“What might be most remarkable about the 23 point margin in this poll is that it’s exactly identical to what we found the first time we polled on this issue all the way back in March,” PPP’s Tom Jensen noted. “Voters were furious then and that anger has continued all the way to November.”

It couldn’t happen to a “nicer” party.

This gave me a laugh:

“There is nothing appealing about him at all. The rule prohibits me to disclose names, but his initials are Dick Morris.”– James Carville, in an interview with Politico, on his least favorite person in Washington, D.C.

I think Cain has more longevity in Iowa than Gingrich. Cain is a loveable anti-establishment nutbag, the kind that resonates with Iowa conservatives. Gingrich makes Romney look like a rock-solid unyielding conservative. There isn’t a single statement on record from Gingrich that he hasn’t openly contradicted, starting with “I do”. Gingrich has risen in the polls because no one had attacked him recently – he’s such an easy target that no one thought they needed to. Gingrich is quite possibly the most odious little hypocrite in the entire country.

I left NPR news on this morning in the other room while I started working. At some point though, not sure when, they apparently switched to what is by now a three-hour discussion of suicide, and I just now noticed. No wonder I am depressed this morning. Turning it off.

  3. puck says:

Everybody ready for what Breitbart will do to this poor girl? And how fast our local wingnuts will sign on to it?

Actually I am reserving judgment until I hear the details. It all sounds flaky, especially since money changed hands.

  4. puck says:

    Senator Schumer:

“I don’t think the Super Committee is going to succeed because our Republican colleagues have said ‘no net revenues,’” said Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on MSNBC. “

So far, so good. But then Schumer continues:

“When Democrats move too far left, we lose. We’re now — the basic mainstream of Democrats… we’re willing to move to the middle,” Schumer said.

Huh? Chuck, Chuck, Chuck… Senate Democrats have a good long hike leftward to get back to the middle.

Better work on helping Democrats like Chris Coons get back to the middle, who want to “reform” the top marginal rate to 29%, cut the corporate tax rate, and declare a repatriation tax holiday for the 1%, all while playing footsie with safety net cuts.

And then there is Obama himself who needs help to get back leftward to the middle.

  6. puck says:

Senator Coons points out on his blog yet another celebration of bipartisanship – but this part was funny:

…Coons arrived in the Capitol less famous than his opponent. And he was often mistaken for staff by others in the building.

“Invariably, I would have to say ‘I was elected in a special election in 2010,’” Coons said. “They’d sort of look at me. I would say ‘I am the freshman Senator from Delaware.’ And they would look at me. Then I would say ‘OK, OK, I beat the witch.’ And they would say, ‘Oh, oh, that race.’”

  7. phil says:

mariachi is not even in the top 3 in rehoboth for “latin cuisine”

  8. MJ says:

Your opinion, Phil, which is often wrong.

  9. Aoine says:

well then, phil, as you are such a food critic, and expert on Latin Cuisine why don’t you show up and try the food?

It is in your budget after all – free

and how many Latin restruants are there in rehoboth for Latin Cuisine anyway and have you tried them all??

which ones do you prefer and why?

    – inquiring minds want to know

  10. phil says:

    I live in Rehoboth, Aoine.

Yours was also an opinion, MJ.

  11. MJ says:

As I stated, Phil, your opinions are often wrong. Mine, well, they’re based on fact, especially when it comes to restaurants in downtown Rehoboth.

  12. phil says:

Which of my opinions has been wrong?

It’s impossible that you have been to more restaurants in downtown Rehoboth than I have, so I’m not sure how your opinion could be more valid than mine. You are a johnny come lately to Rehoboth and I have been here all my life.

  13. MJ says:

Actually, I’ve been coming to Rehoboth since 1987, when I moved to DC. Granted, I might have moved here full-time 6 years ago, but that doesn’t mean squat.

Why don’t you answer Aoine’s other questions?

  14. pandora says:

I haven’t written about the Herman Cain sexual harassment charges (altho I have written on sexual harassment) since I was waiting to see what happened. Unfortunately, Rush Limbaugh has made a pig of himself again by telling his listeners how to pronounce Sharon Bialek’s name as Sharon “Buy-A-Lick” (slurp, slurp)

And these guys wonder why no ever believes them when it comes to charges like these.

  15. PBaumbach says:

I used the wrong email address (for JJ dinner stuff)

    make that pddemail@gmail.com

We already have six, and I’d like to get to 10.

  16. phil says:

Coming to Rehoboth since 1987 still leaves you years and years behind me.

Because Aoine was just being a dick and doesnt have any idea what it’s talking about.

Mariachi isn’t “bad.” I’ve had a few decent meals there. I just don’t prefer it, and I prefer it less than at least 3 other restaurants that have “latin cuisine” offerings.

  17. MJ says:

“Coming to Rehoboth since 1987 still leaves you years and years behind me” – BFD said the crowd.

And if Aoine was being a dick, you’re just being a stupid asshole.

So I’ll ask – name the other Latin restaurants in downtown Rehoboth?

  18. cassandra m says:

The thing about today’s allegations about Cain is that this is no longer sexual harassment — it is sexual assault.

  19. pandora says:

Um… this restaurant/who is more Rehobothian debate is a very silly.

  20. TinyTim says:

So Cain said “… if you don’t have a job and you’re not rich, blame yourself!” and now we find out what he expects you to do if you want a job. What a pig!

  21. phil says:

Ok, the 3 I prefer over Mariachi are:

    Stingray
    Dos Locos
    Cilantro

  22. DE Idealist says:

I’ve always enjoyed taco bell myself.

  23. MJ says:

So, Phil, it wasn’t some independent poll that rated restaurants in Rehoboth, but just your preferences. So I guess you’ll be walking back your original statement?

  24. Aoine says:

Stingray is Latin/Asian fusion and has a straight up shshi bar

I would NOT call it Latin cuisine – its not even close

Cilantro is Latin cuisine – the real deal

and actually Dos Locos is Tex-Mex — not Latin..i never saw hot rock in Mexican, peruvian, cuban etc… restruants either…..

no where in Rehoboth *except Cilantro* can one get

    pupusas
    Lomo saltado
    ceviche
Carpajenas – not on the menu – you can ask for one
    maduros con crema
    tostones
    flan y tres leche cake
    aji de gallena
    pernil

THAT is traditional Latin Cuisine – so yes, phil I DO know what Im talking about actually, and obviously more than you do.

and living in Rehoboth all your ife is irrelvant – the food joints change so fast I think Gus’ and boardwalk fries and Dollies are the only fixtures

get a grip – but still – if you go to Mariachi Sunday Im sure yu will be welcome.
and Im not a dick, Im just right and you cant stand that can you?

  25. Free Market Democrat says:

Not to toot my own horn (beep, beep!), but I’m pretty sure that I said a few weeks back (with a heavy degree of incredulity) that I thought that Newt would be the next “Anyone But Romney” candidate to rise to the top of the Republican field. Looks like, despite his lack of money and an ability to retain staff that equals his marital fidelity, he is on his way to becoming the next Republican flavor of the week.

  26. phil says:

MJ, this is what YOU said: “(Mariachi is the best place in Rehoboth Beach for Latin cuisine).”

Was that some independent poll, or was it just your fucking opinion? Will you be walking back YOUR original statement?

Aoine, thank you for proving my point, you don’t know shit. You give Ceviche as an example of authentic Latin cuisine, and in the same post say Stingray doesn’t qualify. Guess what, Stingray has Ceviche on their menu. You would know that if you frequented Rehoboth restaurants the way I do, but it seems you don’t know anything about Stingray except what is on the sign outside. And for Dos Locos, it depends on what you order off the menu. But we’ve seen how you have a very limited knowledge of the actual menu at these restaurants…
Also, cooking on rocks is a method used by peoples throughout history. The stonegrill stuff is beside the point anyway, because it is but one aspect of what they do, and I almost never get the stonegrill anyway and it didn’t factor into my rating it higher than Mariachi at all.

  27. Joe Cass says:

    phil, let it go.

  28. phil says:

Maybe they should “let it go.” I won’t post anything else on the subject, so long as no one else does either. Hows that?

  29. Mitch Crane says:

Come to Mariachi on Sunday and just say “hello”. You don’t have to eat anything.

  30. socialistic ben says:

phil, when Joe Cass (no disrespect, man) tells you “this is not a battle to fight”….. you should chill.

  31. Joe Cass says:

I apologize phil. I didn’t realize some bitch would use my post against you. You are entitled to your opinion after all. Everything I know about about Latino kitchens could fit into the cranial cavity of a douche named Ben.

  32. MJ says:

Phil, why don’t you just take a flying leap in the ocean and stop trolling around here.

Oh, and it was MY post. You’re just a troll commenter, so chill you old fart. Actually, do us all a favor and just don’t post here at all, ever.

  33. pandora says:

I knew Latin Cuisine brought out passion…

  34. MJ says:

New on the menu at Dos Loco – stone grilled troll con sentido figurado.

  35. socialistic ben says:

didn’t recognize anyone at the GA tonight. I know some of you have taken a “i dont know if i should get involved” stance to OccDe. get involved. all are welcome, dont worry, 20-somethings are “leading” the discussion.
also, there may be a need for sympathetic advocacy lawyers sooner than later.

  36. anon40 says:

I usually check in on delawareliberal for insightful & wiseass takes on the news. Tonight I find an argument about Rehoboth “Latin” restaurants & digs between Joe Cass & sb.

This is supposed to be the place where the smart people hang out. WTF happened to all of you today? MJ disagrees w/ phil, calls him names & tells him to jump in the ocean & never post here, ever. Way to be inclusive, MJ.

    GROW UP, people!

BTW, tomorrow I’m going to El Toro on Union St. Humberto makes a killer torta!

  37. anon says:

    MJ seems a mite sensitive.

  38. MJ says:

No, not sensitive. Just can’t stand stupidity from trolls. And anon40 – if you don’t like what you read here, you have two options – don’t come back and/or join phil in the ocean. 🙂

    (it’s an open thread, schmuck).

  39. phil says:

    What was the stupidity exactly

I disagreed with you on the rank order of certain restaurants in Rehoboth Beach and you blew it up into a giant thing.

I wasn’t going to post anything else beyond my first post on the subject, but then you decided I wasn’t allowed or competent enough to have an opinion about Rehoboth Beach restaurants. God forbid someone disagree with MJ!

  40. meatball says:

I hate to stir the pot further, Trip Advisor rates Miriachi as the overall #4 restaurant in Rehoboth Beach behind Touch of Italy, Henlopen City, and Annie’s Banannies. But what do they know, they voted Big Fish to #5. Dos Locos #27 Cilantro #42 and Stingrays #62.

Hope this helps. Vive la difference!

  41. MJ says:

No, Phil, you stated “mariachi is not even in the top 3 in rehoboth for “latin cuisine,” as if you were quoting some poll of diners or foodies. You never said it was YOUR opinion.

And the stupidity I reference is anything and everything you post on here. As an example, Joan Deaver commented on what she was told by Mike Vincent about how county council was going to do things while Vance Phillips is recovering from his accident. Your only comment was “or Joan Deaver is just stirring the pot.” Go read today’s News Journal and you’ll see she was commenting accurately.

So, as Kathy Griffin would say, suck it!

  42. meatball says:

Delaware Today’s Best of DE readers poll 2011 ties the two seemingly contentious eateries.

  43. meatball says:

I like Agave myself, but stictly speaking, they serve more of a New World Mexican cuisine rather than Latin. Aren’t we so lucky to be able to basically pick just about any dining venue in eastern Sussex and get a fantastic meal?

  44. pandora says:

Meatball is a uniter not a divider. 😉

  45. MJ says:

For the size of our community in Eastern Sussex, we have an overabundance of great restaurants. Now all we need is a real Kosher-style deli.

  46. phil says:

So the thing that has you up in arms is an imagined authoritative tone to my post?

Your post declared Mariachi THE BEST! I was a lot more vague. I said only that it wasnt one of the top 3.

    You need to calm.the.fuck.down.

  47. MJ says:

Phil, you need to shut the fuck up!

  48. liberalgeek says:

I can’t believe that I missed this inanity yesterday. I am laughing out loud at the bizarre love that people have for Latin restaurants.

In a strong latin-American accent “How DARE you insult my restaurant by saying others are better! Get off of my blog, you insignificant troll!”

Look, can we all just agree that Israel isn’t in the top 3 countries in the world? (ducking)

  49. socialistic ben says:

f/f LG! Yeah, this has been one of the more amusing fights ive ever seen here. Mexican food joints are pretty much all the same…. if you want really good food go to Mikimotos…. best Japanese food in the state!

  50. puck says:

DP fires first shot in the War On Christmas! To arms, comrades!

  51. pandora says:

I read that post. The commenters demolished Faye, and then she ran away.

  52. liberalgeek says:

I love just how stupid Fay is in that post.

  53. cassandra_m says:

That is plenty stupid. So I guess this is a rhetorical question — when do they stop falling for that crap, anyway?

  54. puck says:

The Latin restaurant thing reminds me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gb_qHP7VaZE

  55. MJ says:

If any of the DP folks own tree farms, they better not have their hands out for any Federal government payments.

  56. Aoine says:

@meatball – hope you come on the 13th…. Love Agave too

@MJ – phil just isnt worth it – good Lord – i go to Stingray quite often with out of town friends, I prefer to get sushi there and demolished some big boats and lots of WoFats – worst hangover in the world. but then again phil must ‘bird-dog” my ass to know so authoratatively where I choose to eat. i like Mariachi’s chiviche coz she cuts it so small…….

actually, Monday nights at Cultured Pearl is nice – but Yokasuna’s in OC is better

    Mariachi is a favorite tho’

@phil – good grief – grow up! and you are still welcome as Mitch says to come out on Sunday Im sure – you dont have to eat – but if you do show up I will buy u a drink and stand you in the corner

    🙂 dont be soooo mean!

  57. Joe Cass says:

Thank You, Cassandra, for bringing the left back around to our annual “War on Christmas”. Constant coverage soon to a FOX news station near you.

  58. Aoine says:

    @Joe Cass – lovin your comment! 🙂
