Senator Coons to Speak to Progressive Dems next Tuesday

Mark your calendars. Senator Chris Coons will be speaking and taking questions at a special meeting of the Progressive Democrats for Delaware this coming Tuesday, September 27th, at 6:30 p.m. at the Delaware Democratic Party Headquarters, located at 19 E. Commons Blvd, in New Castle. PDD meetings are open to all like-minded voters.

Representative Mike Barbieri (D-18th) has been appointed Vice Chairman of the National Conference of State Legislatures' Human Services and Welfare Committee. This committee oversee's the NCSL's policy work in social services, income security, nutrition and immigration. Good work and best of luck, Mike!

Civilization is (was?) Awesome

Yesterday I had to drop off some refuse at DSWA's Pine Tree Corner transfer station and the whole experience gave me a warm feeling about civilization and how nice it is to live in a civilized society. As I paid my meager $8.00 for the drop off, I started to think about how I will one day bounce my grandchildren on my knee and they will marvel at my stories about life in America prior to the Tea Party takeover.

Szczerba Funeral Set for Friday

A public viewing for the New Castle County Police officer Joe Szczerba, who was killed last week in the line of duty, will be held on Friday, September 23, at 9 a.m. at the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1 p.m. The burial will be private.

DADT Officially History.

Today, September 20, 2011, marks the end of the discriminatory “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (DADT) policy, which had banned lesbian, gay, and bisexual men and women from serving openly in our armed services. President Obama, the Secretary of Defense and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs certified the repeal two months ago as per the provisions of the legislation repealing DADT, and now that the waiting period is over, the law is officially history.

Good Clean (A Capella) Fun

The Sing Off on NBC is just a delightful change of pace. Usually I hate the judges comments in these types of shows, but Benfolds and Shawn Stockman usually have pretty good comments and I think Sarah Bareilles will be focused on the music. Bonus: This year we have blue hens to cheer for.

"Warren Buffet pays less taxes percentage-wise than his secretary, you catch that?" Rollins asks. "How can that be?" "I’m blessed to pay a lot in taxes, " Rollins says. "I have friends and relatives that go day-to-day. Every American deserves to feel secure at the end of their life. So if it’s going to lift two families up, go ‘head, tax me more, I can handle it. Best I know, everyone’s going to die. No one’s taking money to the afterlife.
