New Hampshire Republican Primary Turnout Lower Than 2008

Filed in National by on January 11, 2012

This surprises me.

Turnout in New Hampshire’s Republican race was lower than in 2008, with about 228,000 participating compared with about 239,000 four years ago. Voter turnout in the Iowa caucuses was only a few thousand higher than in 2008, falling short of predictions by state party leaders of a much larger boost.

You’d think, after the last three years of GOP hysteria, that Republicans would rush to the polls in record numbers.  But that’s not happening.

I put Romney’s comment about liking to fire people in the context of his earlier comments about not firing Big Bird.

Part of Romneycure for the deficit is defunding PBS. Mitt actually said he won’t fire Big Bird but, he will require commercial TV ads to pay for Big Bird and thereby lower the deficit. The Romney plan for PBS is to sell stuff to 3 year old kids on Public TV. Most Americans think turning Madison Avenue ad scientists loose on our pre-schoolers is a form of Capitalism Gone WIld predation. But for Romney, it’s about the bottom line. If brainwashing little kiddies to want stuff means less tax money out of his pocket – so be it. Kids are for profit making. And the message is profit and God are one and the same in America.

The reason fewer turned out for the GOP primary is voters have been hearing this smooth talking Teacon pitch before and it’s way stale. Outright fraudulent. It boils down to: Spend more on the military, lower tax rates at the top, plus balance the budget simultaneously. Do they think we are total suckers? Now it’s 3 year old kiddies watching TV are a potential profit center, a way to cut the deficit.

NH in 2008, with the Obama/HRC/Edwards race, was very passionate, and drove voters to the polls.

in 2012, the NH primary is mainly Republicans voting for the candidate they hate the least. This can’t be a very effective formula for driving voters to the polls.

At an event on the day before the primary, TPM reported that Romney was holding a baby and someone from the crowd asked, “Are you going to fire that baby?”

    LMAO!

Its probably also worth noting that Obama only got 80% of the democratic vote in NH. Occupy the primaries!
