Romney National Support Collapsing

Filed in National by on January 20, 2012

Uh oh.

Gallup’s Editor-in-chief Frank Newport appeared on MSNBC to talk about the polling organization’s national tracking poll of the GOP primary race, which is changing rapidly in the last few days of the campaign for South Carolina. Newport said when their new data comes out at 1 pm eastern, “…we’ll see this gap closing more. Romney was up 23 points over Newt Gingrich. Now it will be down about ten points, so clearly things are collapsing.”

I swear, Romney is going to need therapy after this.  “Doctor, why don’t people like me?”

I still think Romney wins the nomination, because… well… hey… Newt?

For the first time, I heard that many Republicans are hoping for a brokered convention so that some better candidate(Christie? Palin?) could win the nomination after ten ballots. That is the pipe-iest of pipe dreams, but what else to sane Republicans have to cling to?

The brokered convention is sounding like a Hail Mary pass that is going to save them all. It is how Anybody But Newt gets burned into DNA — meaning they will have a tough time recovering from this scramble to find someone to save them from Rmoney.
