Don’t Tease Me Sarah.
The idea that this Republican Primary race will go to the convention unresolved is becoming a possibility, although not an incredibily likely one. The two likely scenarios at this point are 1) Santorum wins Michigan and runs away with the nomination or 2) Santorum and Romney battle a long hard slog through May but eventually one of them wins the nomination (in this scenario, probably Romney).
Now, brokered conventions sound exciting and mysterious. A throwback to party conventions before there were primaries. They are every political junkie’s dream. And the last time we were really faced with a brokered convention in either party was 1968 for the Democrats and 1976 for the Republicans.
The idea is that all four candidates, Romney, Santorum, Gingrich and Paul, continue marching on through the primary process all the way to the last of the contests. All four of them will win states along the way and get awarded delegates, such that, not one of them gains a majority of the delegates.
I can see that happening. I can see Gingrich winning some southern states. I can see Paul winning some libertarian western states. I can see Romney winning California and New York and other states with out a strong Republican Party. And I can see Santorum winning the rest.
In such an eventuality, our good friend, former half term Governor Sarah Palin, has offered up her services.
“If one of the nominees, one of the GOPers, doesn’t get enough delegates, it could go to a brokered convention,” said Fox Business Network’s Eric Bolling in an interview. “If it does get to that, and someone said, ‘Governor, would you be interested,’ would you be interested?”
“For one, I think that it could get to that. … If it had to be closed up today, the whole nominating process, then we could be looking at a brokered convention. … Nobody is quite there yet, so I think that months from now, if that is the case, all bets are off as to who it will be, willing to offer up themselves up in their name in service to their country.”
“I would do whatever I could to help,” she added, her voice rising.
“That’s, that’s fantastic,” replied Bolling.
God does not love me enough to allow this to happen. I am not lucky enough for this to happen. The Republicans could not be stupid enough to allow this happen. But if it does happen, my God, I am almost drooling at the prospect. A 70 seat Democratic majority in the Senate. 300 new House Democrats. A 40 state landslide for the President.
“That’s, that’s fantastic,” agreed Jason330.
