Campaign speeches are fun, and of course he is right about the auto workers.
Let’s hope he stays feisty when the House blocks his tax reform including the Buffett Rule. He’ll need all that feistyness to resist his natural inclination toward a bad compromise in order to get a tainted “win.”
And then he will need that feistyness again to issue an ironclad veto threat when the House sends the Senate a bill making the 2001/2010 tax cuts for the rich permanent. No compromise there please, Mr. President. You promised to fight for the expiration; I heard you say so in December 2010. Use your Presidential hammer on turncoat Dem Senators to kill the GOP tax bill. Or if that doesn’t work – veto it, no substitutions accepted.
I also like the overall theme. “We are all in this together,” is an American value. It strikes at the heart of the GOP’s core values of greed and self-interest.
Just imagine Obama defeating the moderate Republican in November, winning majorities in the House and Senate, with the unemployment rate around 8%, and the Bush tax cuts set to expire — oh wait, that was November 2008. Never mind.
I just hope that he keeps it up after November.

Great speech. And he looks so comfortable doing it. It’s not easy to do it this well.
