Next up is that Gallagher fella. His name is Paul Gallagher. Here is his website. Here is his bio:

Paul was born in Wilmington and raised in Old New Castle. He is a lifelong Delawarean and currently lives in Hockessin with his wife Carol. Paul’s father was Assistant Adjutant General of the Delaware National Guard and a career military officer with 43 years of service.

Paul attended Salesianum High School in Wilmington before going on to graduate from University of Delaware with a degree in Business Administration.

After college, he began his career as an insurance professional – a successful career that has spanned over 30 years. During this time, he served as President of the Board of Independent Insurance Agents from 1998 to 1999 and again from 2003 to 2004. He was an officer of the Independent Insurance Agents Board of Directors for 15 years and in 1998 was named Delaware’s Insurance Agent of the Year. Currently, he is a member of the Committee of 100 and a member of the Commercial Industrial Real Estate Council.

While holding leadership positions in the industry, Paul often visited Washington, D.C. meeting with Joe Biden, Tom Carper, and Bill Roth to discuss and advocate important insurance issues affecting Delaware. As a candidate for commissioner, he pledges to continue as an uncompromising advocate on behalf of all insurance consumers in Delaware while also fostering a conducive business climate for insurance carriers in the state.

So he is an industry advocate, not a consumer advocate. How interesting. We have one of those in office already.

Won’t somebody please think of the insurance companies!?!

  2. reis says:

Actually, the independent agents are as much in an opposing role regarding the insurance companies as are many policyholders. I don’t know the guy, and am not ‘plugging’ him. However, he is not per se industry friendly, as he has to fight to clients in terms of negotiating competitive rates from insurance companies, and also has to intercede when these companies give clients a rough time regarding coverage. Another up side is that he knows what he’s doing.

  3. sussexanon says:

Sorry, reis, but its time for a consumer advocate, not an industry advocate, independant or otherwise.

Since you don’t know the guy, almost everything you wrote after that phrase is hypothetical. Its just as dreamy to say he was advocating for higher insurance rates, or less regulation.

  4. reis says:

Sussex, by “he” I meant independent agents in general, not specifically Gallagher. I’ve dealt with quite a few independent agents on claims issues, and they have always supported the client/insured where there was a legitimate difference with the underwriter.

Can any of the 44% who claim to have unfavorable views of Vincent White spell out why they dislike him? Is it because he, like Gallagher, is getting in the way of Prince Crane’s “deserved” coronation? Couldn’t be!

  6. mediawatch says:

Basic observation on Gallagher: His campaign bio says he’s a graduate of Salesianum High School. The correct name is Salesianum School. If he can’t put the proper name of the school he attended on his website, how can we expect him to pay attention to the details of being insurance commissioner?

  7. DEIdealist says:

It’s not that folks here dislike Vince White. In fact, he’d probably be an upgrade from KWS. Hell, my front door would be an upgrade from KWS. The reason people dislike a 3rd or 4th Democrat entering the race is that having more than one challenger to the incumbent only helps the incumbent.

Gallagher and White have every right to get out there and campaign for the office. But when it becomes clear to them, as it is clear to the majority of folks who follow state politics, that Mitch is the only candidate who has a chance to defeat KWS, they need to make the decision to drop out. Otherwise all of their “Advocating for Delaware Insurance Consumer” is nothing but empty campaign rhetoric for a self esteem boost.

  8. MJ says:

One thing that also might be happening here is that Gallagher, Spivak, and White might be stalking horses for KWS or her political master, Harris McDowell.
