Game Change Live Blog

I sense a number of us will be watching tonight. So here is a thread to discuss it. John Cole over at Balloon Juice has some thoughts on watching tonight. He is not sure he is going to. I am going to watch, but I feel the same way he does about Sarah Palin:

I’ve barely recovered from listening to that ignorant harpy in 2008 and am really not sure I can take a sustained two hour exposure to her tonight, even if it isn’t actually her. This may be one of those movies that is so painful I can only watch it in ten to fifteen minute increments.

Palin elicits feelings in me I am not proud of having, and this is a testament to what a truly ugly, awful human being she really is. Just the other day on Fox, she was there spewing her mindless bile, accusing the President of hating white people because of the color of their skin. She had the audacity to claim thet the nation’s first black President actually wanted to revert to pre-Civil war era racism. Why? Because Obama hugged his law professor 20+ years ago.

It’s really hard to measure what an awful, hideous, disgusting human being she is- a worthless sack of flesh whose only mission in life is to sow hatred and animosity, a sad soul with no ability to empathize or behave as a rational actor, and it is worth remembering that this foul beast almost was the Vice President of the United States. Thanks for that, John McCain.

It is my belief that without the elevation of Palin, in all her ugly ignorant glory, we wouldn’t have had the ascent and acceptance of the tea party. When Palin’s odious vitriol and ugly beliefs were mainstreamed, it paved the way for the Joe the Plumbers and the rest of the ugly uninformed orthogonian lumpenproletariat to wear their ignorance, racism, religious sophistry, hatred, and crude nativism as a badge of honor.

We all get to have an opinion, but calling anyone a “worthless sack of flesh” is just not progressive, DD, you should object to that description.

  2. I had a conversation at work – me: I wish people would just ignore Sarah Palin. One minute later: hell yes I’m watching Game Change. I’m not going to lie, I’m watching because Sarah Palin. I’m intensely interested in what Julianne Moore is doing with her.

With that said, I was unaware that a tenet of Progressivism is that no person can be a worthless sack of flesh. That no one can be a truly, ugly, awful human being. If that is so, than I must disagree. Hitler had no redeeming value as a human being. Humanity rightfully celebrated his death. Same goes for Osama bin Laden. While Palin is no where near as evil as those two devils, she too is a horrible human being. I see nothing redeeming in her.

I am sitting in a Best Western in an undisclosed location in western Virginia. When I stopped, first question was do you have HBO? I’ll be watching then head home tomorrow.Have great internet connection, this should be good!

  5. pandora says:

I’m embarrassed that I’m looking forward to this! Smiley

  6. Rob Tornoe says:

Me too. Finishing up a cartoon so I can tune in. I really enjoyed “Recount” so hopefully this lives up to it. Cat nip for politics nerds.

  7. Delaware Dem says:

Recount was excellent. In some ways I am disappointed that Game Change is not going to concentrate on the Dem side of the election, i.e. Obama v. Clinton. But I guess that is a whole movie in and of itself, and worthy of the big screen, not TV. 😉

  8. anon says:

DD, it is a tenet of progressiveness. I hear you on Hitler and others but Palin is no comparison. She is a special needs mother and an American. She killed no one. I am not trying to say you should respect/like/admire or any other thing….just not call her a worthless sack of flesh, it’s demeaning and not progressive.

  9. Delaware Dem says:

Well, I’m sorry. For all John Cole’s reasons above and more, I have nothing but antipathy for Sarah Palin.

  10. What’s everybody drinking for this?

  11. Delaware Dem says:

A full keg of 180 proof straight alcohol. And that is the bare minimum necessary to tolerate Sarah Palin.

  12. anon says:

She’s awful,no doubt. Just not a sack of worthless flesh.

  13. Andrew Sullivan’s take on Game Change. He thinks it’s too generous to Palin. However, Sullivan is a Trig birther, meaning he’s a wee bit insane about Palin.

  14. Delaware Dem says:

Yeah, I never understood his obsession with that part of the Palin story.

  15. pandora says:

    aw·ful

    extremely bad; unpleasant; ugly:

That doesn’t seem like a very nice thing to call someone. 👿

  16. Country first! Drink!

  17. Reverend Wright! Drink!

  18. Delaware Dem says:

    Lieberman. Oh God.

  19. Delaware Dem says:

  20. “Find me a woman.” – not as dirty as it sounds

  21. Delaware Dem says:

    Half naked John McCain. NOOOOOOOOO

  22. Delaware Dem says:

John, your bottom button is unbuttoned.

  23. Delaware Dem says:

Oh, Sedona. I loved that place.

  24. Sarah Palin harassing people at the state fair – this strikes me as true.

  25. Karen says:

Drink whenever McCain says “My Frrriends!”

  26. Delaware Dem says:

You get the sense that McCain is in love with his image. But I guess most politicians are.

  27. Ed Harris is way hotter than John McCain, which is giving me cognitive dissonance.

  28. Wait, is Game Change going to pretend that Palin killed the bridge to nowhere?

  29. Delaware Dem says:

It’s God’s plan. Kill me now

  30. Blu Gal in DE says:

It was all God’s plan! Is that why Obama won????

  31. KarenJ says:

anon on 10 March 2012 at 8:26 pm said “she killed no one”.

Wellllll…maybe she didn’t actually wield the gun, knife, Bic lighter, or water jug.

Some of the stories that circulate around Alaska:

…about her high-school crush Curtis Menard Jr. who died in a small plane crash (water in the gas tank) a few days after he confronted Sarah Palin in 1991 about her mothering techniques (he criticized her for neglecting her children).

…about the neonatal/hospice nurse who was burned to death in a house fire with her 2 dogs in January 2009 (was she the nurse who took care of premature Trig?). The investigators said she’d been smoking. She was a non-smoker. Cigarettes sold in Alaska are the no-smoulder kind that put themselves out.

…about the Alaska Palin critic whose dog was killed and whose work shed was burned to the ground.

…about the Homer teacher who confronted Palin during the filming of her 8-episode TLC series, and was bullied by Todd Palin, Bristol Palin, Sarah Palin, and Todd’s cousin (from Dillingham) [there’s a video online about that]

…about the Valdez businessman seeing his wife off at the local airport at the same time the Palins arrived to take off for Anchorage, made the mistake of videotaping them talking to the Valdez mayor. He too was bullied by Todd and Sarah Palin [there’s a video online about this event, too]

  32. When’s the shopping montage?

  33. Delaware Dem says:

    Shopping montage!!!

  34. Troopergate! You mean Palin wasn’t well-vetted? You don’t say!

  35. Delaware Dem says:

Wow. She is not proud to be a grandmother? How supportive.

  36. Delaware Dem says:

    Levi had a mullet!

  37. Delaware Dem says:

    SHE IS USING A TELEPROMPTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  38. The TelePrompTer broke isn’t true.

  39. Delaware Dem says:

    Get me the Queen.

  40. Delaware Dem says:

It is just amazing she had no understanding of World history.

  41. Studying scene is longer than the shopping scene.

  42. Carol says:

This heffa is yelling at Nicole because of Katie killed her on air and when Nicole told her she did not study the issues which is why she looked like an idiot.

  43. Julianne Moore as Palin watching Tina Fey as Palin = mind-blowing

  44. Delaware Dem says:

I loved when Nicole said she was no Hillary.

  45. I hope Hillary runs in 2016.

  46. Marleycat says:

Visit Shailey Tripp’s Blog for the true story about what Sarah Palin’s husband, Todd Palin, was doing during McCain/Palin’s run for the Presidency in 2008 – another truly significant story of how the process of vetting Palin was a complete failure. Had the McCain/Palin won the election – America could have conceivably had for the first time in history a PIMP as the First “Gentleman” of the United States! Complete with a prostitution ring run by Todd Palin and his partner Greg West, the use drugs to addict vulnerable people, both men and women, to maintain control over them, stalking, intimidation, peddling bizarro sex to gain political favors and win contracts for Big Business! This is an absolutely riveting, sordid, horrifying story of how the MSM aids and abets the power brokers and the cover up of the real story behind the Media spin and seriously unqualified candidates for political office – even to the office of the President of the United States!

  47. Truth Teller says:

Watched the show enjoyed it. Learned two things about Sarah First she is mean spirted and Second she is really DUMB when it comes to knowledge of the world.

  48. Jason330 says:

Did McCain/Palin go on to win the election? I had to check on a 10,000 ton weight being delivered by ACME weight co.

  49. Jason330 says:

I watched it last night and McCain comes out great in this. Aside from picking Palin which was a huge blunder, McCain sees where the idiot Plain’s success is coming from and pushes back against the dark idiocy that she is trying to inject into American politics.

McCain’s concession speech becomes the last gasp of decency arising from the terminal patient that was Republican Party, but at least for a moment in time someone was fighting back against the racist and christian fascist.

  50. Dana Garrett says:

Jason, I think the portrayal of McCain was the least realistic of any character in the movie. McCain has a reputation for often being pathologically angry, at times to the point of being menacing. Nothing of that side was portrayed in the movie.

  51. Jason330 says:

Good point. I should have said “As portrayed…” Because, naturally, the DC press corps has a vested interest in rehabilitating their guy, so there is that.

However, for my world to make sense, I’d like to imagine that the film’s version of McCain is at least a little bit accurate (and it is, if only for a moment, when he corrects a women who is going off on a racist rant).
