Friday Open Thread [3.30.2012]
Sorry gang! Not sure what happened here, but use this as your daily Open Thread. Today’s point and laugh moment comes from the champions of point and laugh:
Teajadis in West Texas are <a href=”http://www.texasobserver.org/forrestforthetrees/texas-texas-parties-take-on-the-menace-of-smart-meters“>taking on stopping the menace of smart meters<a/>:
Led by a far-right commentator from West Texas, some tea party activists are trying to squash “smart meters” in Texas saying that the devices are an unconstitutional invasion of privacy and are making people and pets sick. It’s a cause that seems to have caught on among tea parties, John Birch Society holdovers and Glenn Beck’s team at The Blaze.
Mitt Rmoney thinks it is really <a href=”http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/28/mitt-romney-wisconsin-humorous-story_n_1386383.html?ref=mostpopular“>amusing that his Dad closed a factory in Michigan to reopen it in Wisconsin<a/>. Can this guy get any more tone deaf?
And the Mega Millions Jackpot is worth $640 million. Which one of you has the winning ticket and what will you buy us?
AOL wins over unpaid bloggers.
Keith Olbermann sacked from Current
So, when Jason sells this blog for the $12 it’s worth, I really hope he shares with you all.
Miscreant, I have a question about the Trayvon Martin case.
In the video released showing George Zimmerman getting out of the police car, the officers weren’t wearing gloves even though Zimmerman stated he was bleeding and we know Trayvon was bleeding.
Am I nuts, or should the police have been wearing gloves?
Also, with Zimmerman’s head injury claim, wouldn’t the police have taken him to the hospital (he was handcuffed and in their custody) rather than risking him collapsing at the police station. He was also treated for his injuries in the police car, not the ambulance.
Basically, can you help answer these technical questions? Thanks!
If Jason sells this place for $12, he will be able to afford he martini he owes me.
We carried gloves in the vehicle, and in pouches of the gun belt. We were trained to use them, but my department had no policy mandating their use, so it was up to the discretion of the officer. Keep in mind, policies vary greatly by department.
I would have most certainly have been wearing gloves before contacting any subject who was bleeding, or expelling any bodily fluids. It’s just good practice.
Yes, if the injuries were as bad as claimed, he should have definitely been treated before processing.
I could be wrong, but I believe Zimmerman may have been attended to prior to the video. I also read that he refused treatment. There are so many versions, it’s hard to keep track.
Thanks, Mis. It is hard to keep track.
Maybe Rosie and Olbermann can come up w/ a great next TV idea.
It’s a shame Olbermann apparently is a nightmare employee because he’s done quality work wherever he’s been. He and Dan Patrick made SportsCenter what it was, and Stuart Scott and the other clowns at ESPN have been trying to re-create the magic ever since. His “Keith Olbermann Evening News” on Fox Sports Net (yes, he worked for Murdoch) was simply brilliant, very underrated television. I enjoyed “Countdown” on both networks. Guess I’ll just wait to see where he surfaces next.
Agreed. At some point you have to think, what do all of these episodes have in common?
It looks like disgraced Delaware State Auditor, Tom Wagner figured out how to freep a poll.
I find Olbermann hard to listen to even when I am agreeing with him. Not sure exactly why.
A very intelligent, liberal California group has been fighting smart meters for months. Not a good idea to peg this as a left or right issue. This is about our health. See Stop Smart Meters site. They have a wealth of information. They are on board about climate change, but see smart meters as unnecessary and harmful.
Also, the American Academy of Environmental Medicine recently said smart meter use should come to a HALT due to serious threat to public health. Again, this is not a left/right issue. Please look into it.
puck: ‘Cause he always has to be the smartest man in the room. He comes across like an arrogant know-it-all jackass. And I agree with him on 90 percent of stuff.
No, that’s not it… I think it’s just his diction. He doesn’t have enough variation in his delivery. Everything is spoken in the same cadence and same tone, no matter what the weight of the topic. I start to tune out.
If Olbermann takes his case to the supreme court Gore will lose again 5 to 4
