UPDATE: Brad Bennett’s Arrest for DUI

Yesterday, WDEL broke the story about State Representative Brad Bennett (D – Dover) getting arrested for a DUI, his second, and various other charges. The News Journal has a good description of what happened:

Bennett was driving south in the 2900 block of N. Market St. around 8:35 p.m. when his black SUV allegedly sideswiped a parked police car, which had responded to an unrelated call, Sgt. John O’Connor said.

The officer was about to get out of his cruiser when Bennett’s black SUV hit it, causing minor damage to both vehicles. His car continued south on Market Street and was pulled over in the first block of W. 27th St., according to police.

Bennett, 46, was charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, no proof of insurance and failure to report an accident involving alcohol.

As as you read in the comments in yesterday’s post, House Majority Leader Rep. Peter C. Schwartzkopf issued the appropriate response of a lawmaker. Schwartzkopf also said that Bennett will be seeking treatment.
