UPDATE: Brad Bennett’s Arrest for DUI
Yesterday, WDEL broke the story about State Representative Brad Bennett (D – Dover) getting arrested for a DUI, his second, and various other charges. The News Journal has a good description of what happened:
Bennett was driving south in the 2900 block of N. Market St. around 8:35 p.m. when his black SUV allegedly sideswiped a parked police car, which had responded to an unrelated call, Sgt. John O’Connor said.
The officer was about to get out of his cruiser when Bennett’s black SUV hit it, causing minor damage to both vehicles. His car continued south on Market Street and was pulled over in the first block of W. 27th St., according to police.
Bennett, 46, was charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, no proof of insurance and failure to report an accident involving alcohol.
As as you read in the comments in yesterday’s post, House Majority Leader Rep. Peter C. Schwartzkopf issued the appropriate response of a lawmaker. Schwartzkopf also said that Bennett will be seeking treatment.

Q: What do you call a man who hits a parked police car, flees the scene and gets arrested for a DUI? A: A Delaware State Representative
What happened to this part of the post?
Also, the answer should have been “Honorable?”
…no proof of insurance…
WTF?
I heard the cops were shaking down a local pedestrian, and Bennett was rubbernecking that event (might’ve been the rock dealer he was up there to meet) and hit the police cruiser. Bad move. Well, they locked up the former Kent Sheriff on another DUI and capias for failure to show up in court for a probation violation. $500K bail. Ouch!
“…no proof of insurance…WTF?”
Either he didn’t have or couldn’t find his insurance card in his condition.
Wouldn’t it be nice if he’d retire from the legislature to get treatment for his problem?
Perhaps he thought that being a state legislator constituted sufficient insurance.
