Romney Continues to Tolerate Campaign Surrogate Who Threatened to Kill President Obama

Filed in National by on April 18, 2012

Romney campaign surrogate and very mediocre rocker, Ted Nugent, is full of violent wingnut fantasies concerning the President.

Nugent called President Obama a criminal and denounced his “vile, evil America-hating administration” which is “wiping its ass with the Constitution.” Taking it a step further, he said that “If Barack Obama becomes the president in November, again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year.” “If you can’t galvanize and promote and recruit people to vote for Mitt Romney, we’re done,” he continued.

The thing that is keeping this story alive is the fact that Romney continues to shield his nutbag surrogates with this kind of weak tea “disapointment.”

“Divisive language is offensive no matter what side of the political aisle it comes from,” Romney spokesperson Andrea Saul told TPM. “Mitt Romney believes everyone needs to be civil.”

I say we turn Nugent into a “Republican strategist” in the same way Hilary Rosen got turned into a Democratic strategist.

  2. jason330 says:

Romney sought and loudly trumpeted Nugent’s endorsement. There is no need to try and tie Romney to Nugent. Romney has done all the tying.

  3. MJ says:

And supposedly Nugent went to extremes in personal hygiene to avoid the draft in the 1960’s, going as far as to crap in his pants the day he went before the draft board.

  4. V says:

Nugent also has a history of fooling around with underage girls, even going so far as becoming legal guardian for one so that he could bring her around with him.

He’s bragged about it more than once.

remind me why this creep’s opinion is important again?

  5. Dana Garrett says:

Look, let’s be realistic. Romney can’t denounce Nugent because a significant segment of the GOP base has an intensity of hatred of all things Democratic and/or African American that it resonates with someone who openly suggests homicide. This group is.sufficiently substantial that it cost Romney the election in a close election if they didn’t show up in large numbers to vote.

  6. socialistic ben says:

That leaves only one conclusion. Mitt Romney supports a jail-or-death worthy reaction of Obama is legally and constitutionally re-elected in november. He possibly supports outright civil war if the conservative demands are not met. His surrogate said so, he hasnt denounced it… therefor… and Im using Republican logic here, he fully supports what Turd Nugget has proposed.

Watching a little more of HBO’s “Game Change” last night renewed my contempt for Palin and McCain. They way they stroked, nursed and legitimized this violent, separatists, wingnut lunacy was patently unAmerican.

  8. cassandra_m says:

I got to see “Game Change” a few weeks ago and was intigued by how they framed this story. McCain, Steve Schmidt, and Palin’s handlers came off as largely sympathetic — as if Palin was some Ebola virus who had infected this otherwise standup, wise and committed group of people. Schmidt and McCain treated Palin’s selection as a stunt, not as an exercise in governing. So that the message that Palin somehow doomed them is only true to the extent that you forget that Schmidt and McCain actually selected their doom.

  9. Jason330 says:

Well put. It attempts to rehabilitate McCain in the eyes of the DC media, and probably works on that level becaus it is all strategy, no governing in that bubble.

Taking a break from banging under aged Colombian hookers, the SS is looking into Ted’s comments.

Secret Service keeping an eye on Nugent

The Secret Service heard the inflammatory remarks that Ted Nugent made about President Obama over the weekend, and it’s looking into the matter.

“We are aware of the comments and we are conducting an appropriate follow-up,” Secret Service spokesman George Ogilvie told POLITICO.

At an NRA convention in St. Louis on Saturday, Nugent said, “If Barack Obama becomes the president in November again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year.”
