At 3 o’clock this afternoon, more than 650 million people will be watching a football match between the number one and number two teams in England. To put this in perspective, a little more than 100 million people watch the Super Bowl every year. Also, to help put this match between United and City in more perspective for you soccer-haters:
[Sportswriter] Wahl likened the match between No. 1 Manchester United and No. 2 Manchester City to the New York Jets and New York Giants playing in the Super Bowl, or perhaps the Iron Bowl, which pits cross-state rivals Auburn and Alabama against each other at the end of the college football season.
This is going to be a huge match. The winner will most likely be crowned champions of the English Premier League in three weeks. I’ll be taking off from work early, watching this match at Stoney’s, and rooting for United.
