Eric Bodenweiser is back, teabagging Joe Booth.
I apologize for that headline. It is so very wrong. But that is what our St. Pauli Girl is doing, primarying Senator Joe Booth (R) as a Teabagger. This will be a rematch, as Bodenweiser challenged Senator Booth in 2010 in Booth’s first non-special election as an incumbent. Booth won by only 120 votes, or 51% to 49%.
But that was during the height of Teabag-mania. Could Booth still be vulnerable? I know he is not liked by the crazies downstate. What do our downstaters think?
Meanwhile, if you need a refresher on Eric Bodenweiser, read this.
The notion that Booth is the sane person speaks to the horrible state of affairs in Sussex.
The headline is great. The double entendre is so perfectly evocative, that it is impossible to pass on.
Crazies down state is a perfect description. Listen to some of the talk radio stations and Slower Lower comes to mind. The mere fact that Eric Bodenwiser was able to get 49% of the vote proves just how “crazy and backwards” Scarey comes to mind as well!
Wonder if St. Bodie Girl will point out that Booth was given a brand new lucrative job at the Sussex Vo-Tech. A position that did not even exist before it was crafted for Booth. I know I would.
Maybe, just maybe, a D should enter this race b/c ya never know.
Bodie will beat Booth this time. The only reason he lost last time was because his brother down in Tennessee got on the Internet and sandbagged him.
Walt: What makes you think his brother won’t be a factor this time?
Not only did Booth get a job at Sussex Tech. When it was announced, Booth claimed he didnt know how much the job paid or what the duties would be.
The job was awarded to him 2 weeks before the primary but was not disclosed publicly until after the primary election. Possibly a disclosure violation?
Joe Booths wife has also managed to transfer her job from Woodbridge to Sussex Tech without much fanfare.
Bodie has been appearing at public county hearings and saying some pretty outrageous things in support of the sheriff. Bodie lost his 37th RD chairmanship when he went on local radio and suggested that the assault charges would be dropped against Vance Phillips if Vance would just give the sheriff what he wanted.
As much as everyone likes to laugh about the tea party upstate, they are a big problem and a force to be reckoned with here in Sussex and parts of Kent.
The senate seat in question is enormous. It stretches from the state line west of Greenwood all the way over to Long Neck. Big area, all conservative.
Do you think a conservadem in the mold of Thurman Adams could win the district if the R primary is as divisive as it appears it might be?
And do you have any names other than *cough Polly Mervine cough*?
Bodie can capitalize on the widespread resentment of Sussex Tech, which increased with the Booth hiring.
There is something serious in the works, El Som.
No its not Polly, or her sister, whom IMHO would have been a better more fierce candidate. She didn’t live in the district, however.
The resentment of Sussex Tech could be solved by Sussex Tech. They could start with emphasizing the “Tech” part. The explusion and “selective” lottery system both need a revamp, too. But you don’t need a born-again nutbar like Bodie to solve those problems.
Booth interviewed for the Sussex Tech job two weeks before the election, he did not get it until the school board met the night before the primary. I was at that meeting, it ran past 9pm and Booth wasn’t present. I’m not sure what you do when you get a state job 10 hours before the polls open.
The job is a Race to the Top job that has been cropping up in school districts across the state. It wasn’t “crafted” for Booth. It, however, wasn’t publicly posted, but there were several candidates for the job at Tech, which is better than the way the job was handed to a former administrator at Cape with no public posting and no other candidates considered.
anon: Yeah, right. His job had nothing to do with hiring him. Maybe you could enlighten us as to the previous experience Booth had that made him such a good fit for the job.
Anon, I would like to have the facts about Cape handing the RTTT job to a former administrator without advertising the position.
Walt, do you really think I’ve not been paying attention? Sandbagging? No, I was just doing the best I could to foretell the future and darned if my idiot brother didn’t make me look really good in that department. Deal with it Walt I’m back !! Last time around I was told about it on short notice and did the best I could with what I had but it’s a whole new deal now.
As for Mr. Booth’s job it was a smart hire. His name, being a reasonable and intelligent person as well as being a Senator opens doors to employers (who will also take his calls) that Booth wants to find jobs for kids from Tech. Do you really think they are going to talk to my idiot brother more than once unless they want to pray with him?
I intend to be a factor once again only this time I’m better prepared than two years ago. Just keep checking in on my site, and maybe the papers, billboards or whatever might get attention folks.
Geezer the job is a liaison between the school and the business community. Booth has been a businessman and active in the business community in Sussex County for longer than he’s been a legislator, his ties to Sussex Tech also go back to before he was a legislator.
I’m sure his Legislative credentials were a plus, but he was the best fit for the job, and this is coming from someone who wanted that job.
@Paul… what is your website? Do tell.
anon: Look at all you wrote and let me ask you again: Do you think his seat in the General Assembly might have played a role in his selection? It’s not illegal, you know. It’s just the Delaware Way.
It was a pure political hire plain and simple . Booth was on the Indian River School Board pre legislature. Not close to Sussex Tech.
Booth’s job was clearly made for him. Any administrator already there could do what he was hired to do. He campaigned on his small-businessman background while not disclosing he was shutting down. Yeah, if the primary had bee two weeks later we’d have Senator Bodie.
That said, Eric was also helped tremendously by the CoD boom in the primary. I don’t think those same people are going to be out with the same level of fight this year, especially with no big ticket races in the GOP.
And I’m waiting with bated breath to see who the Dems put up. Eddy Parker would be a good pick for that area, but I’ve heard he’s sworn it off after getting fucked up the ass by the Adams Mervine ratfucking incompetent shitheads. Can’t blame him. If the Dems have anyone else in that district, I’d love to see them.
Polly’s sister is indeed smarter, but Lynn has the same utter lack of scruples and sense of entitlement as that entire family. Having Thurman for a daddy must’ve made them Bridgeville royalty as kids. Only way to explain it.
Bridgevile royalty: all the apples and scrapple you can eat in your Nanticoke home????
Good one JP. BTW, we still need to find someone to carry the D flag for George Herman’s seat. Maybe we should get together to chat.
So… is it safe to head to Dewey tomorrow? Should I worry about teabagging rosary beads and posse comotosis?
I was in Sussex today.Little trips no lightening:)
It’s safe, Joe. But watch out for the Pires Pirates – I hear they’ll make you swear to support him in order to get into the Bottle & Cork.
I thought you read my clippings NO Bottle and Cork here:)
areyouseriousits its as simple as clicking on my name (acts as a link) above! It’s simple and I do it myself. Takes a lot of time and it was effective last time around. May open some of the links over the weekend but it will be more active now.
I know that JP. I was responding to Joe Cass.
Geezer, Booth has a degree from the U of D, he was on the Indian River school board from 2000-2007, he was the mayor of Georgetown 3 times and he was on the Georgetown Town Council. He owned/owns (I’m not sure if he still has it but he started the business in the 1980s) his own business in Georgetown. Does that qualify him to be the liaison between Sussex Technical High School and businesses in Georgetown?
Thank you, but you didn’t answer my question. Given the large number of politicians who have found jobs in the vo-tech districts in the state, do you think Booth’s position in the General Assembly was a positive factor in the decision to hire him?
If the job wasn’t publicly posted, how did so many people apply for it?
It was posted on the district website and advertised in the local shopper publication, if I recall. Not a wide search for such an allegedly important position, leading one to think that perhaps they had a single person in mind.
