    Foot of 7th St Wilmington

  2. Mike says:

Nope. Zwannendael Monument, at the end of Pilottown Rod, in Lewes. http://goo.gl/maps/mnn0

  3. Delaware Dem says:

Correct, Mike, though I thought it was called the DeVries Monument. The monument was dedicated in 1909 to the Dutch settlement established in 1631 on the site, and was under the command of David Pietersz DeVries. The quote by Samuel Bancroft reads “That Delaware exists as a separate commonwealth is due to this colony”, referring to how the King of England ruled in favor of the Penn family over the Calvert family for the land on the Delmarva Peninsula that eventually became our state.

  4. Biff says:

I’m with you DD. I grew up in Lewes and it is the DeVries Monument.

  5. JP Connor Jr says:

Read too fast:( Dutch = Lewes and Swede = 7th St wilm. my bad

  6. Mike says:

Yep. DeVries. My bad. It celebrates the Zwannedndael settlement. I think. Maybe. It is a monument to part of why we exist as a separate state. That and a few navigational mistakes in the 17th Century.

  7. Steve Newton says:

Romney make major education changes? He’s endorsed virtually everything in Race to the Top, and his senior educaton advisor is Rod Paige–who helped give us No Child Left Behind.

The only thing Mitt Romney changes is his opinion.
