Our Daily Joe on the Trail

Our Daily Joe on the Trail

Is it me, or has Joe Biden aged worse than Obama has over the last four years? You really notice it in his eyes. They look almost smaller.

Now Watch the Racists Really Go Nuts

Filed in National by on May 17, 2012 6 Comments

For the last several decades, the Republican Party has become the home of the angry whites who hate, just hate, that they have to share the country with other “inferior” races. And as those “inferior” races, taken together, kept growing in number and constituted more and more of the population of the United States, the angry they got. And whoa boy, we have seen how angry they got after a member of the “inferior” races was elected President!! “How dare he be elected!! He is not American because he is not white.”

Well, hang onto your heads, ladies and gentlemen. It is about to get worse.

Obama vs. McCain & Obama vs. Romney

Obama vs. McCain & Obama vs. Romney

As you can see from the charts below, McCain was the underdog from wire to wire. Following George Bush was a mugs game, and I’m frankly surprised that someone with McCain’s political instincts undertook such foolishness. Maybe he was hoping to line up against Hilary? Anyway, after a momentary glimpse of 50/50 upon wrapping up the nomination, an Obama win was never really in question.

The Obama/Romney chart is altogether different. The generic Republican had a chance for a while, but you can see that the GOP primary really took a toll on Romney. Once Obama put away the rope-adope, and clicked into campaign mode, he opened a huge lead on Romney. A lead so wide that when Romney locked down the nomination, it registered as a blip among the IEM bettors.

Tipping His Canoe into the Race

Filed in Delaware by on May 17, 2012

It seems as though Jack Markell might have a primary opponent. Magnolia resident Doug Beatty, whose only claim to fame is being the son of actor Ned Beatty, has announced that he is going to challenge Markell in the Democratic primary. That is if he can raise the filing fee.

In what has to be the biggest understatement of the year, Beatty said that he is “an extreme long shot” but thinks he can win if he can get on the ballot. I think he’s watched The Candidate too many times. His run is more like the wet dream Bobby had in Deliverance.

General Assembly Post-Game Wrap-Up/Pre-Game Show: Thurs., May 17, 2012

Filed in National by on May 17, 2012 9 Comments

Excellent news, as the Payday Loans bill cleared the Senate Banking Committee yesterday. At least one killer amendment awaits, so it’s up to all of us to contact our state senators (politely), and to let them know that we want them to pass the bill unamended. And, if your senators voted to release this bill from committee, call and thank them.

Republican Super PAC Threatens To Put Religion On The Table

Filed in National by on May 17, 2012 18 Comments

My first thought is… are they seriously considering putting religion front and center?  That strikes me as politically nuts since the last thing Romney obviously wants to discuss is his Mormonism – Hell, he can’t even refer to his religion by name!  And if this PAC goes down the religion road then I’d expect Romney’s religion would suddenly become fair game… and he’d end up not only uttering the word Mormon, but explaining its tenets to his Real Christian base.

Fecal Tsunami

Filed in National by on May 16, 2012 29 Comments

Barack Obama may have the mojo — and I stress may — to withstand the fecal tsunami of GOP super PAC attack ads this year. But four years from now — unless the Democrats have become vastly more friendly to the interests of billionaires than they already are — how is the first Democratic non-incumbent to run in a Citizens United world possibly going to compete with right-wing billionaire cash?

Biden Bringing the Heat

He is such a huge campaign asset, and so great at bringing the working class heat, that it is almost too perfect that the Republicans picked Mitt Romney.
