Edwards Walks
By now everyone knows that Edwards was acquitted on one count and mistrial declared on 5 others. So, get your Edwards hate on below. As for me, I don’t hate the guy. I think he would have made a hell of a better Vice-President (in spite of his vices) than Dick Cheney. Cheney was a bloodthirsty psychopath. I’d take a guy who can’t keep his dick in his pants over that any day.

I was just about to post this. I think Booman adequately summarizes my views.
You are right about 2008. I discount that because he didn’t win. If he had..oh lordy.
In hindsight, there was no way he could have won, not with Obama and Clinton in the race. But still…
I also did not like the “I don’t think God is done with me yet” part of his statement yesterday. I like that he took responsibility and taked about all of his kids (including his illegitimate one), but then he transitioned into talking about a possible redemption, political or otherwise, for himself.
Hey John Edwards, shut up. If you want a redemption than stop being a narcissist. Actually help those in poverty without any added political or financial benefit for yourself. That will redeem you.
But, as a Democrat, I’d like to see John Edwards punished for making a serious run at the 2008 nomination, which he could well have won, while he and his wife both knew full well that he was carrying out an affair.
Yeah, right after we punish Bill Clinton, who actually did win while having an affair.
I’m actual kinda glad that wingnuts can refresh their inane, “But, but, but Bill Clinton got a blow job” comeback for every goddamn thing with “But, but, but John Edwards is a scumbag.”
The Bill Clinton comeback for every goddamn thing was starting to wear a little thin.
Not saying that either was good, but I somehow see what Edwards did as being an order of magnitude worse than what Clinton did at several levels.
I supported Edwards in the primary, because he spoke from the Democratic wing of the Democratic party. The thing that resonated with me best was when he said insurance companies wouldn’t give up their power; we have to take it from them, and they don’t get a seat at the table:
That’s the spirit we needed during the health care debate.
Or his position on taxes:
We’ll never know if Edwards was sincere about his campaign promises, or even capable of delivering on them. But we do know about Obama.
I think Edwards was in Bullworth-mode knowing full well that his whole world could come crashing down if (when) the Enquirer people ever caught on to the affair.
That said, all of this brouhaha over consensual sex and the money spent to cover it up pales in comparison to the raping that several Wall St. bankers did to this country, and they have yet to have a day in court. I guess they spent their cover-up money more effectively.
The liberals need a new (and authentic) voice for the war on poverty and the Two Americas issue . Not a guy who gets $400 haircuts ; a son of a millworked with NO integrity or morals. This guy really hurts the cause. His speech yesterday was so delusional. He needs help. He needs to be sent ot Vienna to be studied by the best psychiatrists for his bizarre “delusions of grandeur.”
May poor Elizabeth rest in peace!
The media is painting this guy as a victim. Maybe it was a weak case, but this was not prosecutorial misconduct like in the Ted Stevens case which cost him a Senate seat. This was just a bad judgment call by prosecutors…it doesn’t negate all the lies and sins of Edwards. To think this guy could have been VP? makes you pine for the good ‘ol days of Spiro Agnew and Danny Quayle.
Good riddance. Vapid, phony twit.
I’m just saying I know Greg Craig. Once he was put on counsel John Edwards’ worries were over. This guy (Greg) has gone from Obama’s counsel to the Wall Street debacle, and tons of great stuff before, involving anything White Housey. Whoever snags him wins. Now, I like Greg, but really, at what point is there so much conflict Americans can’t cry foul? He stays in my Rolodex. And he is the champion of fiscally teasing out the difference between what’s fair and what’s legal. And clients get their money’s worth. But souls were definitely for sale; and it was legal.
Why didn’t he just use his own money to hide his cheating ways? I’m sure he has an ample supply of liquid assets for just such an occasion.
it was, technically, a campaign expense…
