So most of you think Biden is biding his time for a run for the Senate in 2018, when, for the love of God, Tom Carper retires. A not insignificant number of you think he will run for Governor in 2016. A Denn-Flowers-Biden threeway collision? Please save us oh great Delaware Way (the corrupting tradition, not the blog).

Oh, and what do you thing of this new logo set?

  1. Sammy the Bull says:

Why has nobody given real creedence to the idea of Beau challenging Coons? That is his father’s seat and its up in 2014, which would be perfect timing. I mean, Coons started as a sacrificial lamb before Christine O’donnell shook things up and beat Castle. He was not suppose to win. Its hard to believe that in less than 2 years he’s somehow morphed into a guy that the party would fight tooth and nail to defend against a Biden; especially one as popular as Beau.

Its even harder to believe that Beau will fester away in the AG’s office until 2018 waiting for Carper to retire. I think its Governor or Coons. They just make the most sense.

  2. Geezer says:

It will never be governor. Doesn’t have the chops or the skill set, and it’s not what Daddy envisions for him anyway.

And if he goes up against Coons he’ll lose. He’s a lot less popular than you seem to think; he did not run away with his race against Wharton, who had no name recognition at all. Any Biden starts out with 40% of the vote against him.

  3. jason330 says:

Beau would have to have some kind of grounds to primary Coons. “He is in my Dad’s seat.” Ain’t gonna cut it.

  4. Idealist says:

I would fight tooth and nail to defend Coons. He’s the most progressive statewide elected official we have.

  5. walt says:

He was too big of a coward to run against Castle, who was afraid of him. As if a loss would ruin Biden politically. And now he’s paying for it. Stuck in the pergatory of a chump office. Reminds me of Dave Levinson some years ago. Father Joe put on a fundraiser for him over the weekend. As if he needs much when they can’t even get a Republican to run against him. I don’t think you will see Young Biden leave the security of what he has until he has a better position “given” to him.

  6. Geezer says:

Incredible. I find myself agreeing with Walt.

  7. anon says:

I can’t believe I find myself in disagreement with some of you. Biden didn’t run against Castle because he had the Earl Bradley child molestation case to deal with. If he had walked away from that before it was settled, he would have been toast, politically. Scared? My ass. He went to Iraq and he could have easily gotten out of it.

Now, he’s put Bradley away forever, he has a year serving in Iraq under his belt, and he looks more fit than I’ve ever seen him, so even though Beau has lived/worked in DC before, I can definitely see him running for Governor, and I think he’d make a great Governor. He has the compassion and the brains for it.

  8. Geezer says:

“Biden didn’t run against Castle because he had the Earl Bradley child molestation case to deal with.”

Oh, please, my aching sides. Considering the testimony before the Supreme Court, maybe the state would have fared better if he had skipped the case. Then someone else could take the blame for botching a simple search warrant.

“If he had walked away from that before it was settled, he would have been toast, politically.”

    Stupidest. Claim. Ever.

“Scared? My ass. He went to Iraq and he could have easily gotten out of it.”

No, he went to Iraq because he specifically wanted to get into it. There was no reason for that except resume-burnishing.

“Now, he’s put Bradley away forever,”

Only because the Supreme Court won’t make the proper ruling on that botched warrant.

“he has a year serving in Iraq under his belt,”

So he play pretend tough guy just like Daddy does when he poses with all his cop buddies.

“and he looks more fit than I’ve ever seen him,”

Are you angling for a date with him?

“so even though Beau has lived/worked in DC before, I can definitely see him running for Governor,”

In which case I can definitely see the end of his political career

“and I think he’d make a great Governor. He has the compassion and the brains for it.”

He has compassion, he has brains, but unfortunately he has a bunch of stiff-dicked worshipers like you to turn off all the rest of the voters.

  9. Sammy the Bull says:

Just Saying…. For Poppa Biden to break from the trail to do a fundraiser in the heat of a Presidential year for Beau who doesn’t have a reelection to fear, seems pretty odd. I saw in the NJ that Molly, Carney’s State Director or something like that and (according to an old Celia Cohen article) used to be ED at the State Party, left Carney to go work for Beau’s camp.

Beau is pulling out the big guns. Seems like he’s tooling up for something sooner than 2016 or 2018. Whether you all think its wise or not doesn’t negate the signs. Is nobody buying it?

  10. Delaware Dem says:

Yeah, yeah, Beau evil, Coons good. Onto the most important topic: comments on the logos?

  11. Jason330 says:

Well I like the current one, but everything needs to be refreshed from time to time.

  12. Delaware Dem says:

Even if we do stay with the current logo, that logo will be “refreshed,” the color shades above and the font above.

  13. anon says:

I say you put the state in the “D” drop down the “L” in “Delaware” and run “Liberal” off of that. But that’s just me.

  14. Delaware Dem says:

I tried putting the state in the D and it didn’t look good. Delaware as a state is too skinny and narrow. LOL. But I do like the L idea. Let me try that.

  15. Steve Newton says:

I like the one on top with all the words–it is nicely balanced.

There is still something unbalanced, however, when you just use the two letters and the state overhands the L.

  16. Delaware Dem says:

Yeah, but it is unbalanced by design. Thanks, Steve.

  17. Another Mike says:

If it comes down to those 2, I also like the one on top. Maybe you could come up with an alternate, like the Phillies home uniform for day games.

  18. V says:

the new logos are GREAT! i like these much more than the first set. i love playing with the right angle of the state and fitting it into the L (much better than when it was in the D)

but i also agree that Beau (botched warrant or not) needed to take the lead in the Bradley case. If he’d let someone down the hall take it while he ran for office, he’d never hear the end of it. And Joe (with his plagarism thing from decades ago) probably told him it would haunt him in any future run. It’s got attack ad written all over it.

  19. SussexWatcher says:

“There’s no place safe any more.” — Sen. Margaret Rose Henry, D-Wilmington, speaking about her fair city

… aaaaand I rest my case.

  20. heragain says:

Like the first logo, the full length one. Not utterly wild about the lighter blue, but I’m not the designer. 🙂

Reserving my opinion on Beau’s plans, because it doesn’t matter enough to me to argue, on such a nice day. :p

  21. Linda says:

Try overlapping the second logo (two letter one) D a little higher with the L and State overhanging on it – – does that make sense? Anyway I like the long logo. IMO.

  22. Will M says:

Agree with Steve Newton (strangely enough) that the full length logo with the spelled out “Delaware Liberal” is better. Then again, the current logo is pretty good too.

  23. Sammy the Bull says:

You guys sound like a bunch of Wedding Planners…. This thread started out as a good tpoic but morphed into the most pointless conversation ever. lol

    Love it

  24. Joanne Christian says:

Wedding planners–funny. I pick the top one–but you could use the Delaware outline in lieu of the L at front and end of Liberal–just a thought.

  25. SussexWatcher says:

Wilmington: “More than 40 people marched to the steps of police headquarters Friday and issued city Police Chief Michael Szczerba an ultimatum: meet their demands to address the city’s gun violence or resign.”

    http://www.delawareonline.com/article/20120616/NEWS01/306160035/Wilmington-fights-back

Yep, perfectly safe, no crime problem, nothing to see here, move on.

  26. Paula says:

What about putting both the L and the state inside the D for the short version?
I like anon’s idea of using the L in Delaware for the first L in Liberal. It could have the state outline in it, maybe. (The Rs might match up as well.)
Otherwise, I like the spelled-out version above — not so much the initials on their own.
Re Biden, I also wondered when I read the paper this morning why he’s in fund-raising mode. Nothing to add.

  27. Poduim says:

The Beau in 2018 scenario always assumes he won’t be challenged by Markell, Carney, or Flowers. Where does Markell go after 2016? It is either retirement from politics or U.S. Senate in 2018. Markell versus Biden is more likely than people think.
