NCCo Dem Executive Committee Endorses Clark-Taschner

Filed in Delaware by on June 21, 2012

Last night, the New Castle County Democratic Executive Committee endorsed Paul Clark for Executive and Renee Taschner for County Council President. The endorsement of Paul Clark is not a surprise. It would have been a surprise is they endorsed any one else. But I think the endorsement of Taschner is. Perhaps not over Bill Dunn, who is probably seen as an agitator by the Committee, though a damn smart and knowledgeable one. But over Chris Bullock? That is interesting.

So Clark-Taschner is now the official ticket. Myself, I will be voting for Husband-Dunn.

Probably tired of Bullock’s in-out flopping and content-free bombast.

  2. Josh says:

Clark-Dunn even though I don’t agree with Bill, on anything related to the barley mill project. He will do a damn good job. Clark, because he hasn’t done anything in my opinion inflammatory or toxic enough, as to not vote for the incumbent.

Also, I remember standing outside of Stanton Middle School in the Primary in 2004 in a Coons for county executive shirt with a Matt Denn sticker on with both there lit. That is when I first met Bill Dunn, whom at the time was wearing a Clark for County Council President shirt. Clark, over all hasn’t changed much.

    Vote for Paul and Bill

  3. Delaware Dem says:

I am sympathetic to the points you are making. I can stomach Clark if and only if Bill is his Council President. Let’s just say that would be one hell of a check and balance, on both individuals.

  4. Bill Dunn did work on Paul Clark’s campaign in 2004 but his opinion of Clark soon morphed into disgust. Just ask him. Clark has rendered the UDC to serve it up to special interests and pocketed the rewards of that through his wife’s business payoffs.

Vote for Bill Shahan. You won’t regret it. Or Jonathan Husband but not Paul Clark.

I hear that there will be a repost of the racist suburban mailing Paul’s campaign delivered against Penrose Hollins in 2004. I never saw it but remember Dana Garrett talking about it. It is evidently in someone’s files and now headed for circulation.

  5. I attended the NCC Planning Board meeting on Tuesday morning and Dave Culver, Paul’s land use GM, gave a preliminary report on the legislation he’d be pushing on the short term. He is forming study groups to give credibility to some of his plans. Who is going to be named to these working groups? I don’t know but I can guess.

If you think the council president has any power in relation to countering the executive, just take a look at what happened to Kovach. It doesn’t work that way in the dynamics of NCC governance. The existing council has many Clarkies on board.

I guess Del DEM has a short memory or doesn’t pay much attention to what goes on in the county government if he can stomach Clark under any conditions.

  6. Josh says:

Most voters don’t pay much attention to what goes on in the county government. Unless someone get indicted… I frankly think this will look similar to the 04′ Primary for County Exectuive. Shahan-Husband, get the Korn, vote, Gordon, gets the Freeberry, vote and Clark, gets the Coons, vote.

  7. heragain says:

Has anyone here spoken to Taschner? I like her. Bill Dunn is supposed to be a good guy, and I’m sure that’s true. But he’s had many opportunities to excite voters and he hasn’t.

  8. Actually, for as late a start as Bill had last election (2008) against Paul Clark, he did really well.

I just got an email from the Bullock campaign. He is ready to go on the 25th with the launching of his web site and an annoucement at 11AM in Middletown.

As for Taschner, there is a reason she was the party favorite – she is using almost all of Clark’s talking points. What I couldn’t get beyond was that she listed as an accomplishment her involvement in the serial murderer capture a la Freebery.

  9. heragain says:

Nancy, she was a police officer.
It wouldn’t make any sense for her to run based on her expertise growing heirloom roses, lol.

  10. I’ve spoken to Renee Taschner as well. Was prepared not to like her b/c of some of the stuff that’s been posted here. But I kinda liked her.

  11. Idealist says:

I have to agree with hereagain. You run on your background and qualifications as much as your vision for the future.

  12. Valentine says:

Personal character is also important: integrity, honesty, trustworthiness, good values, etc.

  13. anon says:

Will Renee have to give up her appointed office if she wins? http://www.nccvotech.com/boe.htm

  14. Geezer says:

Why should she? School board members are volunteers.

  15. GOPmole says:

Mike Protack has the endorsement of the GOP? LOL !!!
I just receive two letters from Mike.
In one letter he rips the NCC Council for destroying the economy and for being Cronies who only look out for their own pockets.

Mike says he will fix what the current members are not fixing.
    *(Paraphrasing)

So Mike, you want to fix what the current NCC President did not fix like he promised?
Why do you think the GOP is endorsing you? Is it because this seat is a lost cause?

The current NCC President is dropping out because he knows that the seat is a looser as far as elections go. In other words Tom Kovach cannot win his seat back again. John Carney will still make Kovach a TWO TIME LOOSER!!!

Vote Carney 2012! At least we know what we have now.

  16. Geezer says:

I’m about to the point where I want to see Mike Protack elected, because it shouldn’t be long before he steps on his own dick even harder than Sheriff Woody down in Sussex is doing.

  17. jason330 says:

It is tough to imagine someone stepping on that bit of anatomy harder than Sheriff Woody.

  18. Ted Cayton says:

As a voter and avid supporter of the Democratic process. I find myself extremely disappointed with the recent endorsement process of the Democratic County Committee. To endorse candidates before the close of the filing date (July 10th) is unconscionable to say the least. For a party that champions itself as the ‘Peoples Party’ it’s a shame that so many were shut out of the process. Having recently read a brochure for County Council President candidate Chris Bullock that recently left at my door. After reading his very impressive resume and achievements. I was shocked to learn that he was not endorsed. Chris Bullock is relatively new to the process and would bring a fresh approach to the old, tired problems of New Castle County. Sorry County political bosses, Renee may be your back room choice but she will not be mine. After last night’s actions. My vote and that of my entire family’s will go to CHRIS Bullock for County Council President.

  19. heragain says:

I agree that endorsements shouldn’t be settled until the end of the filing date. What i wonder is, can we change the filing date?
Theoretically, at least, the County Executive Committee does endorsements based on the recommendations of the individual district committees. Each House district has a panel composed of registered Democrats from that district, who meet more or less monthly to connect our reps with people in the district, find and support candidates for offices affecting us, and give feedback on proposed legislation. That’s how it works ideally.
However, since these committees are all volunteer, and rent their spaces, they generally take off for one or two months in the summer. With vacations it may be hard to get a quorum. Therefore, in order to have a say in the process most committees endorse earlier… otherwise they can’t meet to endorse at all. The committees have posted (and open) meetings, and the candidates are usually invited to speak. If Chris Bullock didn’t file in enough time to be considered at this step in the process he couldn’t get this level of endorsement, kwim? It doesn’t require a cabal at the top, but it wouldn’t be a favor to the most ‘democratic’ (small d) level of decision making if the County Committee said, “Well, all the districts supported X, by vote, but we like new guy Y so much, we’re endorsing him instead.”
Just like school. Late papers lose points.
I urge every registered D here to look into joining your committee if you haven’t already. It’s sure not the glory job, but if sausage making interests you, important to know where pigs come from.

  20. On a different County note – Great news for Sussex – new County Council district 2 candidate is long time blogger and former school board member –

  21. heragain – Taschner’s crowing about being on the team that brought down the serial killer is inviting direct comparisons to Sherry Freebery. Would have thought it unwise, myself.

Another bad connection for me is that her husband is in the thick of the DSEA – DDOE – Charter mess as an insider. Those who follow the RTTT – Markell – corporate education reform mantra for Delaware understand the role Taschner represents here. He was recently exposed as a part of a secret committee invited by Sokola and Schooley linking DDOE and Charter school lobbyists. That kind of off the radar stuff makes Taschner and his wife a bit too cozy with the larger power structure for my blood.

  22. wtf says:

Let’s see County Exec for the D’ is either a dumb crook- Clark, a smart crook- Gordon so the County Council Pres is going to be another clueless stooge Democrat. Not likely, it appears the crooks at the top of the Exec race will elect Protack. Sorry dopey Geezer
