Read this in its entirety about the whole Chick-fil-A bigots love chicken battle, but especially this part:

This isn’t about mutual tolerance because there’s nothing mutual about it. If we agree to disagree on this issue, you walk away a full member of this society and I don’t. There is no “live and let live” on this issue because [Chick-Fil-A CEO] Dan Cathy is spending millions to very specifically NOT let me live. I’m not trying to do that to him.

Asking for “mutual tolerance” on this like running up to a bully beating a kid to death on the playground and scolding them both for not getting along. I’m not trying to dissolve Mr. Cathy’s marriage or make his sex illegal. I’m not trying to make him a second-class citizen, or get him killed. He’s doing that to me, folks; I’m just fighting back.

Bigoted Christianists like David Anderson make this argument all the time, that by giving equality to gays somehow discriminates against people like Mr. Anderson because it is Mr. Anderson’s God-Given right to hate gays and discriminate against them at any time for any reason.

Meanwhile, this is hysterical:

Mitt Romney gets the key porn star vote — Jenna Jameson endorses RMoney!

    And her reason?

I’m very looking forward to a Republican being back in office,” Jameson told a KCBS-TV reporter, champagne in hand. “When you’re rich, you want a Republican in office.

    Honest, I guess.

  2. pandora says:

Well, that makes sense since Tampa Strip joints say Republicans are their best customers!

And House Republicans are nervous about this… they are even issuing warnings to their members. Hmm… why would the family values brigade even need to be warned?

  3. wtf says:

Homosexuals are never happy, You can have sex with the family pet and who cares? No one does. Live your life but don’t ask anyone to get excited about homosexuals and their rights. No one cares and you will never be happy.

  4. @wtf-

Homosexuals or LGBT persons or whatever the latest label is, are full citizens of this country, and they are entitled to the same rights as every other American. Why is that so difficult for you to accept?

    @wtf

    Apparently you care . . . a lot.

    Dear Gay Marriage Opponents,
Chick Fil-A Appreciation Day was a huge success. Please make this a daily occurrence. Every meal, every day for the next 10 years. It won’t do a thing to stop the growing acceptance of gay marriage, of course, but do it anyway.
    Thanks, X

DD – “Dan Cathy is spending millions to very specifically NOT let me live.”
Really? That is pretty dramatic. All the guy said is he supports traditional marriage. This is defined as a religous ceremony between a man and woman in a church and presided over by a preist, preacher etc. This whole issue has been exploited to further the same sex marriage cause. Civil unions are already legal in DE so what else do you want.

  8. Delaware Dem says:

Those of us who are not bigots want equality for all. I don’t know about you, but I consider having a love life and a sex life part of living. That is what he meant but saying “Dan Cathy is spending millions to very specifically not let me live.”

Bigoted conservatives have not yet come out in support of killing all the gays. Yet.

  9. Steve Newton says:

All the guy said is he supports traditional marriage. This is defined as a religous ceremony between a man and woman in a church and presided over by a preist, preacher etc.

Unfortunately, Cathy, “traditional marriage” comes with a whole host of government-supported financial, economic, and regulatory benefits that are denied to same-sex couples. Automatic provision of spousal health benefits, inheritance of pension benefits, mandated intra-state recognition of the union, the list goes on.

As a Libertarian, I’d be perfectly happy to say that the government gets out of the marriage business all together. Let the State only perform “civil unions” which are contractual agreements between consenting adults, and let the churches have sacramental marriage. That way you could pursue one or the other, or both, depending on your preference or the church’s policy.

But at this point a preference for “traditional marriage” supported by government benefits is, in my mind, a violation of the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment.

  10. puck says:

“All the guy said is he supports traditional marriage. ”

Well then he can declare victory, because traditional marriage is legal. Or do you think maybe he was talking about something else?

  11. Delaware Dem says:

I agree with Steve. I have long said the best solution to this whole business is for the government at all levels to declare that it is out of the marriage business, and that it would only issue civil union certificates that bestow upon two consenting unrelated adult persons all the rights, obligations and benefits of what we now call traditional marriage. If these two persons what a church wedding and a marriage blessed as a sacrament by that church or religion, then it falls upon them to find a church that will marry them. Some churches have strict rules (Catholic), some will marry gay couples (Episcopalian, UCC), and some fall in between.

  12. duty says:

I agree with Steve as well.

  13. Rockland says:

The whole CfA thing is a great microcosm of the progressive mindset. You can express any opinion you want so long as it’s a lib opinion. Everything must be tolerated – as long as it’s a lib position or lifestyle. You must embrace and treasure all progressive ideals – while they spit on your own. If you disagree with any lib position you are racist, anti-human rights, homophobic, evil, a nazi, etc… If a lib disagrees with your position they are simply exercising their 1st amendment rights.

One guy expressed his personal opinion – and libs everywhere want to bankrupt a successful privately owned company that employs thousands of people. It’s more important to be pro-gay marriage than employed as far as liberals are concerned. I really hope this has been a wake-up call to the average citizen. The progressives do not want to protect your freedom of speech. They want to force you to accept their thoughts, ideas, values, and opinions. Not convince you with logic and facts. FORCE you to accept them and stay silent.

  14. pandora says:

    Free market, baby!

  15. One guy expressed his personal opinion – and libs everywhere want to bankrupt a successful privately owned company that employs thousands of people.

    Nonsense.

The CEO of a large, privately held corporation made his views on a controversial topic known to the public.

He and his company are now suffering the repercussions of his idiotic PUBLIC statement.

As pandora said, that is the free market at work.

BTW, you are apparently ignorant re: “freedom of speech”. No government entity curbed Mr. Cathy’s speech, nor has Mr. Cathy suffered any governmental punishment for having voiced his (un-Jeebus-like) opinion.

In case they didn’t teach you in grade school, “freedom of speech” only protects the speaker from governmental intervention and/or punishment. It does NOT protect the speaker from PUBLIC or PRIVATE retaliation or humiliation.

Again, as pandora said, this IS the FREE MARKET!

  16. Geezer says:

“it is Mr. Anderson’s God-Given right to hate gays and discriminate against them at any time for any reason.”

No, it’s worse than that. David thinks it’s his God-commanded duty to condemn homosexuality. In logical terms, this is known as “appeal to authority” — that is, David claims to know the intent of “God” on this issue, and that knowledge, he believes, trumps any logical argument anyone might make.

This is, in a nutshell, the entire mindset of the conservative “Christian” — they cannot be wrong because they know the mind of “God.” People with a Manichean world view cannnot live and let live, and therefore must be fought.
