Wednesday Open Thread [8.15.12]
Wednesday! Two more days til the weekend. Here is a new ad released by Team Obama hitting back on the Rmoney lies about Medicare:
“If there were crickets at the Iowa State Fair, you would have heard them chirping.”
Sorry about all these “RYAN!/(romney)” sucks posts, but I just can’t pull my gaze away from the train-wreck that is this VP pick. Here is an account of RYAN!’s debut at the Iowa state fair. Even for Democrats is it cringe inducing. I can’t imagine what this pick is doing to the stomach linings of Republicans.
Campaign Finance Reports
30 day Campaign Finance reports for the 9/11 primary were due yesterday — 8/14/2012 — to the Department of Elections. Looking over finance reports is a good deal of fun and you can judge something about campaigns by the amount of money raised and *who* they raise it from. If you want to start perusing some reports, take a look
Late Night Video — Happy Birthday Alfred Hitchcock
Actually, yesterday, 13 August would have been Sir Alfred’s birthday. But the video is a compilation of the majority (not all) of his cameo appearances in his films.
“They are only upset because it is true.”
So Biden said this…
Look at what they value, and look at their budget and what they’re proposing. Romney wants to let the—he said in the first hundred days—he’s gonna let the big banks once again write their own rules. “Unchain!” Wall Street. [Boos] They gonna put y’all back in chains. [Laughter, applause]
…and team RYAN!/(romney) promptly got its poutrage on.
The Team Obama response to the hissy fit should be, “They are only upset because it is true.”
Urquhart to beat Lopez
Why the bold prediction? The guy is so super cool about beating Lopez that he put this video about seeing the Loch Ness Monster up on his campaign web site.
Tuesday Open Thread [8.14.12]
So what is going on in your part of the world today? We have a couple of clips of Governor Markell making the rounds talking about Paul Ryan:
Paul Ryan Won’t Help Romney With Women
The narrative forming around Paul “Ayn Rand” Ryan, so far, has centered on his wonkiness, his “intellectualism” and his fiscal “swoon inducing” prowess. (Can’t wait until Republicans start gushing over his government experience – which will be good for Ryan since working for the government is 99% of his resume). But there’s more to Ryan […]
Open Thread – “RYAN!/(romney)” ticket continues to suck
What is it? Day four of the ticket being the worst, most desperate charade since McCain picked Palin? Sure there were some initial squeals of excitement from the GOP faithful programed to squeal excitedly when Rove rings a bell. There are still people saying this this was a “bold” pick, because how else can you describe a pick that alienates huge swaths of the electorate? “Ididotic” “shortsighted” ? They work. Here is my favorite use of “boldness” to describe the pick so far.
Great States to Live in for the Future
Gallup developed what it calls the Gallup-Healthways Wellbeing Index to try to determine the states with the best expectations for future livability. Sad to report, Delaware is not in the top 10. We are in the bottom 10, though.
Late Night Video — Gov Markell Challenges Ryan on Economic Policy
This clip is from October last year (2011) from a CNBC program where Ryan is spinning up the usual talking points about lowering taxes, how there is no budget, and the business “uncertainty” canard. Governor Markell appears at the 4:30 mark to push back some on what business leaders tell him:
