Wednesday Open Thread [9.26.12]

Filed in Open Thread by on September 26, 2012

This Open Thread is brought to you by the NFL replacement referees, who are now calling the Presidential race for Romney. OK!

This could be intriguing — the major fact checkers are getting together this week to try to predict the spin each candidate will deploy in the debates. They’ll announce their predictions today at the National Press Club.

From cracked.com, 5 Ways to Spot a B.S. Political Story in Under 10 Seconds. Oh yes — there is alot here for a joke site (seriously), but one of the hints is that if the headline contains the word “gaffe” you can safely pass that story by.

Wilmington’s Fringe Festival starts tonight and runs for 5 days. This is a fun and inexpensive event — check it out if you can! (Fixed link, apologies)

More Replacement Refs Humor — some creative has taken Flo Rida’s song “Whistle” and made it about the replacement refs. A decided improvement to my ear, but this is amusing:

I can’t imagine that anyone is still on the fence concerning the diametrically opposed candidates in this upcoming presidential election. I believe the remaining money in the coffers will be spent on getting out, or keeping in the vote, and not to gain more votes.
Wouldn’t the remaining money they have in the campaign be better used if Romney donated the funds to charity? The Super PACs can more than make up for it anyway.
Hero to the poor, Mitt Romney !

  2. jason330 says:

Using the commutative property, this would be the biggest BS political story of all time.

“Lawmaker’s gaffe a blow to “blasts” stories?”

    I’d say Cracked nailed it.

  3. GOPMole says:

It is going around the GOP that Sher Valenzuela is in negotiations to cut loose Kevin Wade and endorse Alex Pires.

  4. jason330 says:

A pretty cool Film Festival is coming to Middletown’s Everett Theater on Saturday the 29th.

    Annual MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival
An extraordinary global event will take place the week of September 28 to October 7 2012 when over 100,000 people in over 300 cities across six continents gather in Cinemas, Galleries, Universities, Museums and Cafes for one purpose…to view and vote on our Finalists’ Films in the

One World One Week One Festival is emblazoned within the rings that surround the Festivals Logo and it is this mantra that sets us apart from any other film event of the year.

  5. jason330 says:

GOPMole, I get how much Wade sucks, but that seems like a very high risk, low reward move for Senora Valenzuela.

  6. Michelle M says:

The Fringe Festival link is to the Cracked article but I do agree that the Fringe Festival is great.

  7. fightingbluehen says:

    ~ for jason

tell ya what FBH. If he does that, I’ll out myself via a picture of me VOTING FOR ROMNEY.

  9. cassandra_m says:

Thanks,Michelle M, I fixed that link to the Fringe Festival! Sorry for any confusion.

Another dazzling opportunity to support local theatre comes your way this weekend via The New Candlelight Theatre’s 3 day only benefit performance of “Follies, In Concert”.

This features many of the Grand Dames of area theatre (as well as a few fellas and me) and the money raised will honor John O’Toole, Lee Goldstein, and Terry Johnson by keeping the building standing. http://www.nctstage.org/FOLLIES_in_Concert.html

It seriously would be hard to find a collection of performers of this caliber gathered for one show. Come hear these women sing some of Sondheim’s greatest music, locally.

  11. fightingbluehen says:

I’d be happy to see that, socialistic ben. BTW, I know someone who knows someone who knows Mitt Romney, and I told him to run the idea past the guy who knows Mitt Romney. If Romney ever even hears the suggestion, I’d doubt he would even do it anyway. The Democrat leaning media would obviously try and give it a bad spin.

  12. fightingbluehen says:

Sorry. I meant “Democratic”. Don’t want to insult anyone don’t you know.

  13. Liberal Elite says:

It looks like the GOP may have thrown in the proverbial towel. The big money has been shifted to senate races and assorted congressional races. There’s a reason that Mitt has no money, and it’s not because the wealthy have stopped giving to their favorite political causes.

  14. mediawatch says:

Who knows, GOP Mole could be on to something.

Clearly Cher’s not swayed by Kevin Wade, and she’s got a good eye for no-bid contracts — like cushions for the chairs in Alex’s restaurants, bank and law office.

It will give her something to do after Nov. 6.

  15. Rustydils says:

In 2008 4 people in my immediate family including myself voted in the presidential election. This year 7 people in my immediate family including myself are voting in the presidential election. All for Romney. Have not seen any polls discussing that change in turnout. Its great to have kids. All working in the private sector. Remember, for every one person the pollsters have surveyed, there are 999 people they have not surveyed who will be voting.

  16. jason330 says:

Dils buys into the grand polling conspiracy theory as a self-defense mechanism. He has heard, and has accepted as fact, that “a wide array of polling organizations (excluding Rasmussen and periodically Gallup) are highly susceptible to Democratic lobbying, and have modified their procedures in order to make it appear more likely that Obama is well ahead of Romney.”

Dils old boy, if the results on November 6 closely resemble the current expectations of the polls, will you recognize that you were being had? Or will you adopt the belief that the conspiracy was successful?

I’m guessing that you will adopt the belief that the conspiracy was successful. Am I right?

  17. Paula says:

The New England Journal of Medicine asked Governor Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama to describe their health care platforms and their visions for the future of American health care.

    Obama: http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMp1211514?query=featured_home

    Romney: http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMp1211516?query=featured_home

Haven’t read them yet — just wanted to get this out there before I shut down for the night.

  18. liberalgeek says:

Poor Rusty… he really is sad when he goes off half-cocked and clueless. which is pretty mush all the time.

    But it’s still sad.

In Rusty’s mind, only Republicans reproduce.

  19. socialistic ben says:

rusty, lots of people who voted R in 2008 have also DIED. but a ton of then 14 year olds who are young, dumb, and rebellious will be voting for Obama this time around. WE SURROUND YOU! in fact, just today, i erased the death certificates of some registered republicans and made fake IDs for some gay illegal immigrant Muslims. they will be voting for Obama in Florida, Ohio, and Virginia. MMWWAHAHAHA WE SURROUND YOU!!!!!! make sure you pass that along to the guy who know who knows a guy who cleans Romney’s chamber pot, or whatever the fake connection you have to him is.

  20. Liberal Elite says:

@lg “In Rusty’s mind, only Republicans reproduce.”

It’s true that Republicans have a higher birth rate than non-minority Democrats.

The problem for them is sometimes baby proto-Republicans start to develop critical thinking skills.

Or to put it another way. You often find children of Republicans acting like Democrats, but you rarely find children of Democrats acting like Republicans.

  21. Liberal Elite says:

@RD “This year 7 people in my immediate family including myself are voting in the presidential election. All for Romney.”

There are millions of clueless men who think they know how their wives and daughters will actually vote…
