Del Dems File FEC Complaint against Pires while Pires follows the Rzewnicki Strategy.

Filed in National by on October 11, 2012

The Delaware Democratic Party today filed a formal complaint with the FEC against Independent Senate candidate and all around crazy man Alex Pires, and his campaign committee. The Dems allege that on numerous occasions Pires has improperly used the staff and resources (financial and otherwise) of several of Pires-owned local bars, restaurants and nightclubs downstate. Further the complaint alleges that Pires has not followed the disclaimer requirements regarding campaign advertisements and materials, which provide to the public information as to which organization or candidate is responsible for the material.

From the Del Dem press release:

This is not the first time Mr. Pires’ sloppy work and inability to play by the rules has come to the attention of Delawareans. In August, The News Journal reported on Pires’ legal work as a class-action trial lawyer in Washington, D.C. The paper reported that, in his work suing on behalf of black farmers, Mr. Pires was criticized for missing court-ordered deadlines for filing his clients’ claims. His carelessness was so evident that when his lead client was asked about his relationship with Mr. Pires, he said, “If I was a resident of Delaware, no way in hell I would vote for Al Pires.” Since then, other farmers have sued Mr. Pires for failing to provide them with incentive payments – while he walked away with $11 million.

“For a guy who has repeatedly referred to Delaware as the most corrupt state in America, Alex Pires doesn’t seem to adhere to a very strict code of ethics,” said Joe Aronson, Executive Director of the Delaware Democratic Party. “From using his businesses as a campaign piggy bank to failing to disclose that his campaign committee is responsible for political advertising, Alex’s campaign reflects his footloose past. When he represented black farmers in a class action lawsuit, he was so sloppy that the judge reprimanded him, yet unfortunately Alex walked away with millions while black farmers left the deal with little. Time and again, Alex has shown he thinks he doesn’t have to play by the same rules as everyone else, and now he’s bringing his road show to Delaware.”

In response to this complaint, take a look at this amazing and self destructive statement from Alex Pires:

“(1) Mr. Carper beat his first wife, (2) Mr. Carper beat his second wife, and (3) Mr. Carper repeatedly lies about his military record- Mr. Carper has never set foot in Vietnam, was not and is not a Vietnam Vet, yet brags about having done three tours in Vietnam. In retaliation, he complains to the FEC that I gave three older ladies pieces of chicken from Jimmy’s Grill- the best chicken in Delaware.”

Old time politicos in this state will remember this “Carper beats his wife” tactic from the failed campaign of a once rising GOP star named Janet Rzewnicki, the State Treasurer at the time she ran against Governor Carper in 1996. It failed then and destroyed her career for a simple reason: it was not true. May it now destroy and bankrupt Alex Pires.

@Del Dem: Good for you that you’re calling out this guy. I used to think politics corrupts good people but learned that with a few exceptions they start out that way.

Pires sounds just like KWS. “Mitch Crane assaulted me” or “Gene Reed assaulted me”, (neither would ever touch her with a 10-foot pole) or “I’m discriminated against because I’m the only woman candidate”, or (as she should say but won’t) “JP Connor cleaned my filthy house and got paid with campaign funds, and I extort kickbacks from all the DOI vendors” etc etc ad nauseam. The prospect of having this whining idiot as IC for another 4 years isn’t exactly appealing, so let’s hope Mobley beats her. Nothing is impossible at this point.

  2. SussexWatcher says:

Jesus Fuckshit. You anti-KWS people are damn crazy.

  3. Delaware Dem says:

Stay on topic here people. This is not a KWS thread.

  4. cassandra m says:

What continues to amaze me about this crazyness from Pires is that there are real issues that Carper can be nailed on. Too bad that by taking this tack, Pires is giving Carper just another pass.

I was in Selbyville today speaking for Shirley Price (38 Th District representative) when Alex sat down next to me while we waited our turn to speak .(Man does not wear socks). I got called to speak first and did not stay but supposedly told the ladies we were speaking to.”Vote for me I will buy you dinner” . Other DEMS stayed and I got this at our Georgetown Headquarters tonight .

  6. Jason330 says:

Pires shouldn’t use his bar staff to write press statements.

  7. John Manifold says:

I wish Moyed were here tonight.

“State GOP chairman Jerry Herlihy, who has a few soiled skirts of his own … Wee Tommy Sandbach … ”

Moyed would carve Pires’ johnson into a popsicle stick.

Ralph atually veered into Republicam Politics for a bit and in 1968 he helped disable voting machines in Richardson Park…. He told me himself with a big laugh:)

  9. The Truth says:

Pires is correct about Carper’s first wife. I’m surprised he didn’t mention Carper’s college girl friends.

From Kay Shearin’s book “Diamond Dust”
…Carper divorced his first wife. I haven’t heard any rumor that he beats his current wife, but several people who were their neighbors have told me he used to beat his first wife, and in their written settlement agreement he paid extra for her promise not to mention it anymore, and they said they knew that from their own observations and from what she told them. During the 1990 campaign, Carper’s opponents’ campaign managers told me that was true and that they had documentation that as early as his college days he beat up on the women he dated before he was married.

When I was checking dates for this section, I couldn’t find the date of that divorce, so I called the public library in Wilmington and asked. That library’s research desk is superlative — they take inquiries over the phone, and they’ve often answered such obscure trivia questions for me that I was almost embarrassed to ask them. After researching the question for most of a day, they called back to say Carper’s divorce was between 1982 and 1984, but they couldn’t find any reference to it anywhere, and they’d even called the local newspaper.

I hadn’t really cared at first, but that made me start wondering: ‘Who’s Who’ includes divorce dates in its listings (mine’s in there), everybody knows Carper’s been divorced, he’s held high federal office since 1982, and he’s already announced he’s the Democratic candidate for governor this year, so he’s a public figure whose biographical statistics are in the public domain — why the mystery? So I called his office here and asked what year he divorced his first wife, and his staff got all bent out of shape. They asked for my name, and I wouldn’t give it, but I told them I was a registered voter who wanted to know. That drove them crazier. When one of them asked why I wanted to know, I said it was biographical info for an article I’m writing about the candidates in this year’s election. Not only wouldn’t they tell me when the divorce was, but then they wouldn’t even talk to me anymore and said I couldn’t talk to anyone but Carper’s press secretary in Washington! Now I’m very curious about what Carper is trying to hide?

  10. Jason330 says:

*sigh* There are real issues that Carper can be nailed on. Oh well.

  11. geezer says:

The allegations, true or not, were made in testimony by his first wife during divorce proceedings.

Janet R. was ruined by the incident because she tried to pretend she had nothing to do with releasing the document, a copy of which I once had and may still have in a file cabinet somewhere.

Del Dem, you have no way of knowing if it was true or not — nobody but Carper and his ex-wife would know. I have never heard that Carper has directly denied it. About the second wife I have no idea, and I doubt Alex Pires does either.

“Did I slap my wife? Yes.” – Tom Carper, “Only in Delaware” by Celia Cohen.

  13. Don Nots says:

Carper slaps small business too! The crazy guy must be polling well! Who’s the one doing push-ups? Not crazy Alex.

  14. Jason330 says:

Pires sure has lots of signs. He shouldn’t use his bar staff to write press statements though.

  15. meatball says:

I don’t think he’s that crazy. Unless he self destructs, I think he’s more democrat than Mr. Carper.

  16. X Stryker says:

Has anyone told Pires that posting 5 signs in the same spot is a waste of money?

  17. Pencadermom says:

I agree. And, it looks almost desperate somehow. To me, a sign in someones yard means a lot more than one (or 5)on the side of the road. Anyone can do that. If I voted based on eyesore signs all over the place, I’d be voting for that poor little missing hotdog dog

  18. DEvoter302 says:

Check your campaign laws. If he personally paid for the signs, then case law says he does not need to have a disclaimer.

  19. Room 222 says:

Ok. Now I am mad. – Alex Pires hit kicked and beat an employee of his restaurant and physically threw him out of a door and then followed him into the street- Pires has anger issues

What had the employee done? Spoke on their cell phone on their break for loner than what Pires thought was acceptable…. Nothing more

A criminal complaint was made by the victim and the issue was investigated

If that asshole wants to accuse someone else of beating people maybe he should come clean about his own history of beating his employees

And I have more besides…. Keep this crap up Pires and even more of your skeletons will come out

  20. anon says:

Wow, he was just on with Gaffney talking about the “wife beating.” I hope they post the audio. He said he interviewed a nurse at Christiana who verified the story about #2.

  21. Jason330 says:

People, For the love of God. Whether or not allegations that Carper abused his spouse are true, the allegations aren’t relevant to this election. They come off as the mean spirited work of a guy who has nothing other than a seething hatred for the incumbent. did he come by that hate legitimately? Who knows? Who cares?

The longer the smear job goes on, the more it hurts Pires and helps Carper.

  22. Aoine says:

If that nurse talked she/he violated HIPPA and ethics and should be fired

As an attorney Pires shoukd know that – but then again. He is a sucky lawyer

  23. SussexAnon says:

Where did you get your info on Alex Pires, Room222?

Given the great pains this (and other) sites have taken to avoid Eric Bodenweisers rumors, I hope you can provide evidence of your accusation.
