I’ve heard the vice president has strapped himself to a flagpole in Rehoboth Beach, DE with both middle fingers saluting Sandy. #sandyde

    I love Biden’s image. It’s hilarious.

  3. Delaware Dem says:

The Hurricane has intensified to become the strongest storm north of Cape Hatteras in all history. It has dropped to 940 mb Low pressure, a record north of Cape Hatteras. This storm will become the worst Hurricane to hit anywhere in the Mid-Atlantic or the Northeast in history.

The track remains the same, with landfall in Wildwood and Cape May, and the up the Delaware Bay and River, with a second landfall in Delaware City and then the track takes it over Bear and Glasgow and Elkton.

  4. Pencadermom says:

The view in Newark DE from about half an hour ago. I would estimate that Christina Creek was *at least* 3.5 feet higher than usual. It’s normally a very shallow stream (less than a foot deep) right there (Elkton & Gravenor). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ghsu4I661pQ

From a statement: “Gallup has suspended polling for its daily tracking as of Monday night and will reassess on a day-to-day basis. The ultimate effect on the overall picture of polling between now and this weekend, including election polling, will depend on what happens as a result of the storm, about which we will have a better understanding of on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.”

  12. cassandra_m says:

    From Facebook:

“Watching PA Gov. Tom Corbett on TV promise the business community that federal funds will be available to rebuild after the storm.

Just as there are no atheists in a foxhole, there are no anti-big-government conservatives during a hurricane”

    Right?

  13. Delaware Dem says:

Indeed. Hurricane Sandy reveals them all to be hypocrites.

  14. Delaware Dem says:

Has Pat Robertson weighed in yet?

  15. Delaware Dem says:

  17. Bill Humphrey says:

I see the News Journal’s stupid pay wall/article cap is still in place even as State Officials are linking to its coverage to give people information. How kind of them. Meanwhile, the giant New York Times has suspended their pay wall nationally to allow people access to vital information.

  18. cassandra_m says:

Bill, that’s really strange. I thought I saw someplace that the NJ was suspending the paywall (at least for Sandy coverage) for the duration.

Governor Christie basically endorsing the President right now. “I appreciate his kind of proactive leadership.”

  61. Delaware Dem says:

I do love Governor Christie during disasters. I hate his politics otherwise, but his assholish schtick really works during emergencies.

  62. Delaware Dem says:

NJ Governor Chris Christie speaking now. He is upset with the Mayor of Atlantic City for disobeying his order to evacuate and having many residents stay within the towns shelters. Now people are trapped in flooded shelters and homes. He will not send rescue workers into harms way. The earliest he will send anyone out is tomorrow morning. He stated you are now on your own since you chose not to obey the evacuation order. “I will not in good conscious put rescue workers in harms way because you didn’t listen to my mandatory evacuation orders”

  84. Paula says:

Near IHM (Shipley Rd/Weldin Rd) it’s been quiet, until just now, when the wind picked up again.

Watching Channel 6 (ABC?), apparently we’re in the eye of the storm, and there’s more to come as it moves inland. Still have power at the moment.

Stay safe folks. I have my mom to remind me not to go outside when I hear a bump. She can read my mind. (Story on TV of a guy who heard something, went out to look and had a tree fall on him. He’s OK.)

  85. Delaware Dem says:

No, we won’t in the eye until 10-11. The wind is violent out there (Silverside Rd and Shipley Rd) right now.

  86. Paula says:

OK, DD, I stand/sit corrected — maybe I misunderstood the meteorologist.

  87. cassandra_m says:

Somebody get this advice to the Governor, pronto!

  88. Dave says:

Near Red Mill Pond in Sussex. Lots of wind, rain, and noise, but still have power. Noticed the wind picking up now that the storm has made landfall.

Is it too late to run to the store for toilet paper and bread?

dave, if you tried, i think youd be shitting into the wind. *rimshot

  90. cassandra_m says:

Just read via Twitter that Wawa is closing early, so it might be the end of the world.

  91. Liberal Elite says:

What’s really interesting about this hurricane is that it may rise from the dead!

Look at this at prediction 120 hours out:
    http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at3+shtml/211847.shtml?table#contents

NHC gives it a 15% chance of rebuilding again to class 1 or class 2 out over the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the North Atlantic.

…and then it can swing around and smack us again!!! (just kidding)

  92. socialistic ben says:

i remember hurricane Ivan (i think) in 03 or 04…. it went out to sea, regrouped and came back.

  93. Stone Pony says:

I had a good chuckle after reading the Romney Storm Tips.

  94. V says:

it’s super quiet outside. are we done?

  95. John Young says:

no. more rain and wind on the backside of the eye.

  96. cassandra_m says:

Lots of power outages reported in Northeast Wilmington and Brandywine Hills. Delmarva will dispatch repair crews when the winds are safe.

  97. Anon says:

Anybody downstate heard that punkin chunkin is cancelled? Seems like they would need to make that call soon since people come in from so far away.

  98. xstryker says:

I lost power at about 4:50pm. There’s some roof leakage in my attic, a little water in part of my basement, but otherwise things are ok. Hope the power comes back tomorrow.
