Since losing the election, Republicans are trying to employ the “I have a black/brown friend with a vagina” strategy. Every time I turn on the television or surf the net I’m bombarded with Republican politicians and pundits performing mea culpas over their past behavior. But their words ring hollow when you look at their actions.
Take a look at this picture.
Ladies and gentlemen, may I present the new GOP House committee chairmen. All white men. Does this look like a political party acknowledging its demographic problem? Of course not. This is a political party that thinks it can get away with paying lip service while continuing operations as usual.
That picture says a million words – and not one of those words is diversity.
I’ve reached the conclusion that Republicans are completely clueless about what to do about their problem with women and minorities. They simply don’t get it, mainly because they view these groups as monolithic. They don’t see the differences in women and minorities. To them, people within these groups are interchangeable. The most glaring example of this is Sarah Palin. When Hillary Clinton lost the primary to Barack Obama, Republicans had an Ah Ha moment – Put a woman on their ticket and capture the Hillary vote! And to this day, I believe, they still don’t understand why that didn’t work.
So, prepare yourself for a lot of pandering to women and minorities, but if you feel yourself starting to believe it… pull out that picture of the new GOP House committee chairMEN.
