The Polling Report [12.13.12]

NATIONAL–PRESIDENTIAL APPROVAL RATINGBloomberg: President Obama’s job approval has strengthened to 53%. The last time he enjoyed that level of public backing in the Bloomberg poll was December 2009, when his job approval was 54%.

NORTH CAROLINA—SENATORPPP: Sen. Kay Hagan (D) 45, Rep. Sue Myrick (R) 44; Hagan 45, Rep. Renee Ellmers 39; Hagan 48, Rep. Patrick McHenry 40; Hagan 48, Rep.-elect George Holding 39; Hagan 49, Rep. Virginia Foxx 39; Hagan 48, NC House Speaker Thom Tillis 38.

I highlighted Hagan’s numbers against Foxx above because Foxx is batshit insane, and thus the base of the GOP will love her, and thus she will be the nominee of the Republican Party in 2 years, and to prove that point:

NORTH CAROLINA—SENATOR—REPUBLICAN PRIMARYPPP: Virginia Foxx 17, Sue Myrick 14, Patrick McHenry, 13, Renee Ellmers 11, George Holding 9, Richard Hudson 6, Mark Meadows 4, Thom Tillis 2, Other/undecided: 25

SOUTH CAROLINA–GOVERNORPPP: Gov. Nikki Haley (R) would lose a 2010 rematch against Vincent Sheheen (D) if the election were held today, 46% to 44%.

SOUTH CAROLINA—SENATOR (CLASS A)—REPUBLICAN PRIMARYPPP: Sen. Lindsey Graham (R) 54, Rep. Tim Scott 32; Graham 57, Rep. Trey Gowdy 29; Graham 64, ex-Gov. Mark Sanford 26; Graham 64, Rep. Mick Mulvaney 20; Graham 67, state Sen. Tom Davis 17

NATIONAL–IMMIGRATIONPolitico/George Washington University Battleground: 62% support an immigration reform proposal that would allow illegal or undocumented immigrants to earn citizenship over a period of several years. Thirty-five percent oppose it.

“The poll reveals significantly greater overall support, 77%, for an immigration law that allows the children of illegal or undocumented immigrants to earn the right to stay here permanently if they complete a college degree or serve in the military. Just 19% oppose this key element of the so-called DREAM Act.”

NEW YORK–GUBERNATORIAL APPROVAL RATINGQuinnipiac: Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) has a shocking 74% to 13% approval rating. This despite his hand in giving control of the State Senate to the Republicans.

KENTUCKY–SENATORPPP: Sen. Mitch McConnell (R) has a horrible 37% approval rating, and an equally horrible 55% disapproval rating. In fact, these are the worst favorable/unfavorable numbers of any senator the country. That is what you get when you are the face of obstruction. His race for reelection is close against Lt. Gov. Jerry Abramson (D), Attorney General Jack Conway (D), and actress Ashley Judd, but he leads all three by four points, 47% to 43%.

NATIONAL–FISCAL SLOPE NEGOTIATIONSABC News/Washington Post President Obama holds a substantial advantage over House Speaker John Boehner in handling budget negotiations to avoid the fiscal cliff: Nearly twice as many Americans approve of the president’s work on the issue than do approve of Speaker Boehner.

NATIONAL–FISCAL SLOPE NEGOTIATIONSBloomberg: By a 65% to 33% margin, Americans believe that the President has a mandate to increase taxes on the wealthy and protect Social Security and Medicare. Hell, even half of all Republicans say he has a mandateof Republicans now say he has an mandate.
